Has Anyone Else Lost Interest in a Game Just From Poor Loading Times?

I only play Battlefield 1 when friends want to, whereas I played BF3, 4, and Hardline mostly by myself. Can't stomach how long it takes to load or how clunky the menu is.

GTA Online too.

Styx: Master of Shadows.

The load times were insufferable, made only worse that since it's a stealth game dying and restarting happens A LOT so you sit through the load screens what feels like every five minutes.

Well that's one of the reasons I never start a game of Street Fighter V.

When I do play one game, all the loading and waiting happens again and.... Well there are not only tons of other games to play that don't waste my time but tons of other things to do in general.

So, SFV definitely.

Battlefield 1 is so fucked up because it takes 5 minutes to load a game, and then 5 minutes to quit one and go back to the menu too. If you play a round of operations, and then want to play another round you are staring down the barrel of up to 10 minutes of loading screens, the whole time knowing that in less than a minute you could close the app and be in a game of Rocket League.

I finally gave up on the game because often when I would join a game of operations it would throw me into one with only a minute or two left, and I would get a loss and immediately have to endure the main menu loading time and the join game loading time again.

Not so much losing interest as that it's so much more painful to play them. Gran Tourismo 4 on PS2 was horrendous with load times but it was so good. I definitely would have spent more time coming back to it if it weren't for that.

It almost happened to me while playing Pillars of Eternity. Fortunately you can alt-tab and do something else while the game does its thing.

After all the time I've spent on GTA Online I can only laugh about complaints of loading in other games. Like people who cried about Bloodeborne? Man that shit was like light speed comparatively. SFV? I barely even notice em after GTA, shit I could probably boot up and play a match of SFV before GTA's ready to go.

Closest I every got to quitting a game for loading prior to GTA shattering my sanity was Duke Nukem Forever, but that was mostly because it wasn't a very good game combined with bad load times.

Although it wasn't the *main* reason, the loading times in SFV were definitely a large contributing factor in why I quit the game.

Starting Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 on PS3 was such a hassle

*Initial loading screen*
*Checking for downloadable content*
*Updating player data*
*Saving*

Takes like 2 minutes just to start

Lol yup. So annoying. Fortunately the rest of the menus were fine after that initial loading so it wasn't really a problem for me in marvel 3

Nah, I grew up with cassettes on Commodore 64 and still play lots of retro Commodore games, loading times are blistering fast today.
So did I, on the C64 the initial load times were really long, but once you were at the title screen you never saw a loading screen again. Whereas now you'll get loading screens after dying, fast travel etc.

Same here but with spectrum. Load times are amazing in comparison

Yes, I have almost completely stopped playing Street Fighter V and I am now gaming on Guilty Gear Xrd. Too bad that GG is a lot less popular, so it's more difficult to find online fights.

Edit: I found out today that these ridiculous load times were either possibly intentionally implemented, or it's just a poorly optimized game: https://twitter.com/TOOLASSlSTED/status/833300043142676480
Either way, I so wanna love that game but Capcom makes it so difficult for me to do so.

Duke Nukem Forever is the only game I ever quit because of loading times. Was trying to give the game a fair shake, even with bad criticism. But I gave up dealing with BS deaths alongside 2-3 mins loading screens on PS3.

XCOM 2 on PS4.

It was partly my fault as I hated the idea of losing squad members (to either death or injury) so much that I had to reload and start over. The reloading took so long that it killed my enthusiasm. Anyone know if Pro Boost mode significantly shortens reload and general loading times?

I played about 120 hours of Skyrim on 360 when eventually I lost my mind at the loading going in and out of any building. Played recently on PC and it's much less of an issue but still hope they find a way around having to load entering and exiting buildings for future games.

Yes. Those fucking door animations masking loading times each time you change rooms in the PS1 Resident Evils are as unnervingly frustrating now as they were back in 96.

Seriously. They're the #1 reason why I didn't cared for RE until 4. A very distant second was the tank controls but I was willing to work with them. The loading times not so much.

Just Cause 3, even on PC. It's not a game I want to play hours at a time, but like, for 30 minute burts of chaos. That initial load in just totally detracts from that sort of quick burst session.

It happened to me recently. I am lately addicted to multiplayer games, so I bought Killing Floor 2 in order to have a coop game. But it takes sooo long to loadÂ… that everytime I want to boot it, it is just not worth it. There was a huge patch released and yet, I have not even touched it.

Persona 2: Innocent Sin for the PSP. The loading every time you get into combat is terrible.

Long loading times are also one of the reasons I never really got into the PS1 and PS2 libraries despite owning a PS2. I could never stand the loading times of most PS1 games.

Growing up during the PS1 era, loading times today can be considered as luxury for me.

Kids today may never experience waiting for a damaged ps1 cd drive to finish loading the first area of a game.

Back when I had Shogun 2 on my old hard drive. Christ it would take about 5 minutes to load the game and about 3 minutes to load a battle.

Really dampened the experience and I would have played much more otherwise.

Moved it to an SSD years later and it was massively improved.

PS3 Skyrim for me. I'm a huge Elder scrolls fan, however when you reach a certain point on the PS3 version, the performance and loading issues really started to show. Loading a new area sometimes took >5 min and then the game never exceeded 20 fps. The thieves guild quests were the worst due to there being at least 6 loading screens between initiating and completing. I basically completed all quests in Oblivion multiple times, but couldn't even bother replaying Skyrim because of these issues.

Luckily, it's been a while since i had to deal with frequent, long loading times. SSDs are great.

They would absolutely be a deal breaker.

Lego: City Undercover can be really annoying when you want to start playing. I just time it to go to the bathroom after the 2nd loading screen (and making sure I have passed the saving warning screen.

They are not that common after that.
