Has anyone ever been boo'd on stage LIVE @E3?

Many broadcasts have direct mics hooked up as to avoid audience feedback during trailers and such, and while they'll often try and incorporate applause or reactions to various announcements, what you're hearing in a stream is almost always not representative of the live show. The audience response can be cut out completely or turned extremely low/cut into late depending on the person behind the controls (and indeed apparently tampered with in IGN's case).

Was it microsoft who had the fake applause play through the speakers for one of their events?

I think MS and Sony both have done that. I do remember one year though when MS clearly had some mics in front of some employees who were cheering at every little thing, it was hilarious.

I don't think he was booed as such, but when Ubisoft chose him to front their E3 a few years back, Mr Caffeine's career pretty much died on stage.

Was that the time there was some wild fan girls cheering for the smallest of things? that was funny.

the giant bomb guys have answered this. other than booing AT&T at the sony conference its never happened. booing is in poor taste.

you used to be able to use the amount of clapping to measure enthusiasm towards an announcement. unfortunately sony and Microsoft began bringing in fanboys to cheer and shout for everything like idiots so those awkward moments are lessened.

Did the PS3's $599 announcement generate boos, or at least groans?

Can someone remind me whthee the public was denied access at that time or not?

The clapping = ok, booing = childish, just be quiet is silly. Be quiet the whole time then? "Positive feedback only" is ridiculous.

Clapping is fine and is the socially accepted way of showing respect/approval in such events. Neither cheering nor booing are appropriate in professional settings, in my opinion.

Yeah these presentations at e3/gamescom/... are cringeworthy for me because of the fanboys. Well at least it's not as bad as apple keynotes or the chris roberts star citizen fanclub.

I agree. I just disagree with the no booing opinions when they want to promote cheering, clapping and other positive crowd noise. And I share the opinion silence is as damning at such events.

I've only ever heard boo's from the Sony conferences.

I've heard groans at technial errors like Microsofts E3 13 conference, but never any boo's outside Sonys conferences.

This is generally true, and the video being posted here is fake. There was booing, but it wasn't like in that fake video.

Giant Bomb can say whatever they want, but I believe this is an instance of them remembering incorrectly, or it maybe only being in a certain section so not everyone heard it. I know I'm not of any reputation to challenge them and expect to be believed, but that won't stop me from telling you that I was there, and there was a loud collective boo/groan. It stuck to me because it was my first E3 and it seemed so unexpectedly unprofessional. That moment just stuck with me.

Yes, I am saying they should be doing neither cheering or booing. If they want cheering, that's an open invite for booing.

The people at the Oculus conference did a good job at that to an almost excruciating degree.

Lmao yes that's just what the games press needs -- to boo more at E3 presentations.

Hey Jason, were you there for 2013 Xbox? I was sitting on the right side, close to the back near the 343 staff. I clearly heard boos and groans. Where were you and did you hear anything?

While I also don't like the cheering, some applause after a presentation is just being polite and is expected.
I agree but I thought this was about reactions to announcements or big news during a presentation.

I would love to hear audible groaning during preorder retailer exclusive nonsense or microtransaction reveals lol

The audio in that video has been edited. The booing and "be quiet" is actually from the techinical difficulties they had with the BF4 demo. The first instance was genuine.

I thought I remembered the boos and the shout of "Xbox sucks" but clearly it wasn't from the price reaction. Well then the Battlefield guys being booed for their demo not starting is an example. That whole conference was a bit of a mess really.

Honestly don't remember. With a few exceptions (like the FFXV reveal) most E3 conferences have blended together in my mind. I do remember being there when AT&T was booed in 2011 tho. Hilarious moment

This. Clapping if you like something or to show you respect something, fine. Cheering ebcause you're a big Kingdom Hearts or Zelda fanboy? No. Booing because Wii Music is shit or Microsoft announced a high price? No. If you don't like it just shut up or make a snarky comment to your buddy you're sitting with, don't loudly boo like an obnoxious idiot. Also don't cheer and scream like an obnoxious plant either.

Silence is more damning.

If I heard booing I'd want to see any childish pricks in the press exposed and banned for doing it. Games journalism has a bad enough rep as it is. As much as they must want to even Fox news reps don't boo at white house press briefings, they're even respectful when they fish in the Q&As. They're attending press conferences not football matches. They don't have to like what they're reporting on but their hosts don't have to tolerate outright hostility.

Fair enough. I'm beginning to think it was only a certain section and it wasn't audible to everyone.

The silence that caused Don Mattrick to embarrassingly prompt the crowd to react lmao:

For a public event, fair enough. For a professional event like E3 is supposed to be, not really. If the journalists think it is nonsense they can just say so in their coverage.

There are so many things at E3 that have deserved to get boo'd over the years and never have. Folks are just too damn polite.

I don't think the E3 stage is really the place to be booing, and that goes for the planted "woos!" as well. I see it more as a professional event where announcements can be dissected in interviews and such post conference. If I were a journalist there I certainly would be more focussed on recording and updating live on the facts, and leaving my opinions for afterwards with my audiences.

That's just me. Sure I'm no robot and some respectful rounds of applause would be given, maybe some frantic clapping for something really awesome :p
