Has anyone traded in their PS3 / Wii yet?

I've read about people buying an XBOX360, then trading it in, then buying it again when a game comes out they want, or someone trading-in their PSP to buy a DS, and then buying the PSP again later....

What I'm wondering is - has anyone traded in their PS3 or Wii yet? And if so, why?

I do have a somewhat related story:
My local GameXchange store takes the first used console that is traded in and sets it up at a tv for people to “try before you buy” used games. I keep going in so I can play some PS3 games other than the Motorstorm demo at stores. The problem is, no one has traded in a PS3 or any games yet, so they don’t have a demo station yet. They did tell me that 360’s were being traded in the first week of its release.

If anyone is stupid enough to have bought one and traded it in by now, they deserve to pass a kidney stone. However, if they were gifts, then well... all's fair.

My gamestop had a PS3 a couple days after release...they were selling it for about $30 less than retail :lol

I returned my Wii, however, before I did that I went to Gamestop and asked how much I could get in Trade-In Value.

Even thoug they were still in high demand, they offered me $180 in store credit.

I stuck my Wii on ebay today, its currently going for £25 (£5 start) I had it.. I played it.. and I didnt think it was very good with a very poor upcoming library. I'll probably re-buy it when Mario comes out.

Don't you think this is gonna be a waste of money? You probably won't even break even on your current Wii.

my Wii with Zelda and Classic controller cost me £200. Im keeping Zelda and selling the rest, I expect to make £200+ EASILY. I sold a Black DS before Christmas for £132 and retail price is £99.99.

Thinking about selling my Wii. Loved wii sports and I do still play that every now and then. Zelda I loved for a few hours but I really have no time for it. Right now theres nothing else out worth buying and I haven't seen anything on the release charts that I want. Ps3 I can't sell because it still isn't even worth buying in the first place.

Seriously.

Anyone who does that must have bought the system without thinking. They have hardly been out for more than a month.

How much did you expect them to give you and how much do you think they sell used Wii's for?

yes, I sold my wii to a friend and made some profit as it really scare around my parts.

I got caught up in the launch hype and I have no real need for it now.

I bought a Wii and thought about keeping it, but ended up reselling it due to the profit margin. I tried getting a PS3 for resale, and I am so glad I was not able to find one. I would have taken a bath on that one!!! :lol

i traded in my wii for a hooker. turns out the hooker didn't have any games either. i returned her, got my wii back and traded it in for a ps3. which i sold on ebay. i spent the money on wii games until i remembered that i gave away my wii. so i traded in the wii games for a blowjob from the store clerk. it was pretty good. the teeth hurt a bit

PS3s are not traded in -- they're returned for their full value. I've seen multiple units returned just prior to and after Christmas. It's really strange.

Traded in 20GB for 60GB version. Does that count? :D

Truthfully, don't even know why I have it. Only use for playing demos and watching few Blu Ray movies. Mostly, collecting dust.

That's due to ebayers not being able to sell them.

I've never inderstood people who trade in consoles multiple times in one generation. It's pretty much inevitable that you'll end up losing money like this. It's like it causes them physical paint to one the console when there is a dry period. Really, find something else to do, buy another console, and next thing you know the drought is over.

Yeah, is he surprised at $180? They probably sell them for $220-230. If they're not getting around 25% profit on a game system, they wouldn't even bother. Used systems are a big hassle. With the potential for getting stuck with a faulty system (it's impossible to fully test it right there and determine if it's all in good working order), stores aren't going to give you more than 75% of a console's retail value, no matter how popular it is.

In Japan, trading in a Wii will get you 24,000 yen, which is only 1000 yen (round 10 bucks) less than the actual system.

Game trading in Japan RULES.

maybe the crappy emails u sent from your Wii put you off?

Haha I remember when N64 came out and some of the games were really hard to find. I traded in Waverace 64 and another game at Funcoland for $80 store credit *each* and then rebought them a week later for the cheaper retail price. :lol

So do retailers make $5 bucks off pre owned systems? Isn't that EVEN less than what they make off of new systems? Why would they even sell them? Why would anyone buy them at that? Or is this just due to the scarcity of the system right now?
