Has gaming ruined your life?

i think a more appropriate question would be "has GAF ruined your life"

answers still no, though :P

Several times, in little doses...but I'm still alive and stronger because of it. Thank you, gaming.

Thats true, alot of my non-gaming friends have become ecstasy and speed fueled ravers... that could have been me.

I'd rather game.

Life has ruined my gaming. I decided to try out for piano school last year and had to basically give up games and TV to fit all the practice in that I had to do.

Did the audition in December and got back to gaming and then found out that I got into the school. So I can basically kiss videogames goodbye from February through to December this year and for the next 3 years after that. They would decide to release a new Mario platformer and 3 consoles (assuming PS3 comes out in Australia) this year. Shit.

No but I've ruined plenty of peoples lives in the following games:

WoW- haha they were ruined anyway, I just helped. AMBUSH!

Smash Bros.- I've pissed a lotta people off in this game.

Soul Calibur series- Especially before they nerfed mitsurugi :D

This may not be entierly related, but...

I've learned ALL sorts of things from pen-and-paper role playing game manuals, about engineering, weapons, wildlife, etc... and no I don't mean fantasy stuff, I mean real-world stuff.

I'm often amazed that I somehow found myself happily married one day. It seemed like such a distant dream during those 12 months of nightly 8 hour Halo lan parties. But then I got lucky one day and met a great girl at a random party. It all sort of fell into place for me.

There is still hope for the rest of you. :lol

err, so that's a yes?

A while back a classmate called me up while I was playing Starcraft really loud. He was being all buddy buddy but I didn't really have much to say cause I was mad serious when I was playing SC. Basically all that was coming from my end of the line was:

EN TARO ADUN! PEW PEW PEW! MY LIFE FOR AIUR! SHING SHING SHING!

And that was the last I heard of him.

Friend -1 :(

It hasn't really affected me socially, but it sure as hell took a financial toll on my life.

I've resolved to fix that from now on. No longer will I have a backlog of unfinished (and in some cases, completely unplayed) games. I won't buy something new until I've finished everything I already bought. I'm also not giving in to the hype on the new consoles. I'll pick up the 360 and PS3 when they drop down to 200 bucks.

Yeah, I made the same pledge in the past, and it didn't really work out either. I think I'm in a better position to make the pledge now though because I'm trying to buy a house.

Gaming hasn't affected my life.

But sitting on the sofa hours on end, ignoring phone calls, smoking skunk and eating packets of chocolate Hobnobs probably has.

Oh well. Next time I'll try to be reincarnated as something without opposable thumbs.

if it wasnt for games (half life 2 in 2004 & mario kart ds in 2005) I would get a lot more study done and probably better grades at uni. Oh, and if I wasnt a lazy bastard, that would help too.

It's helping ruin my marriage - I can tell you that.

ouch. no joke, I don't know how you can be married and be an obsessed gamer. whenever I'm in a slightly serious relationship, I've gamed less.

I also didn't game for most of my 20's. I don't think it would have ruined my life, but it would have robbed me of a lot less non-virtual experiences that I would be the poorer for.

Living with your girlfriend/wife/partner is hard for the life of a gamer.

Before we moved in together I enjoyed the fact that I could be completely spontaneous in my gaming habits.

I could come home from work, and sit on the couch playing a game till 11 pm if I wanted before getting up to make myself dinner.

Now I come home from work, if I am first home I start dinner or vice versa, then we eat together, have a glass of wine, clean up etc...

Then most nights we'll usually watch a DVD together or something (West Wing being our thing at the moment). So then its usually 10 o'clock or so and I game for a little while but by that time I am pretty tired anyway.

Then you have other things to fit in, grocery shopping, dinner with friends, overtime at work...

Its easy to see why your backlog of games can get out of control.

Thats most likely why I spend alot of my working day on videogame forums. If I can't play enough games at night, I am at least going to bloody well talk about them during the day.

The thing is, it's not me who's the fiend. My wife stays up to ridiculous hours, 3, 4, 5 am in the morning - even later sometimes - and we have a son to take care of. She also has a job to go to as well, but she keeps playing that fucking World of Warcraft like she's addicted to crack. I hate that fucking game.
