Has the Wii-U saved us this Gen?

Halo/Gears was my biggest pull for the Xbox platform last gen but I feel it's more than had it's run now, and don't even get me started with Playstation that has lost soo many of their classic franchises, as a 'core' UK Playstation fan I don't even feel connected to them these days, I feel they've lost their identity, and PC, perhaps I'm stuck in the 90's but I really miss my original FPS's, that being said Wolfenstein was pretty good but they are few and far between this days.

Thinking about this gen only brings one image into my brain:

PS4image.png[IMG]

It's like there where no competitors. This thing against the pc - was there something else?

No offense here. I DO know about the WiiU and it has some cool titles like bayonetta 2, but honestly? This is ... rather unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

I like that you enjoy the console though! Always love to hear that people enjoy their purchases. A lot of great titles are still coming for the U, thats for sure.
This generation i think about the games. The console doesn't matter. I go where the games I want to play are. The power (however great or lacking), sales, and features mean nothing if the games i want to play aren't on the system. I'll never get the Console loyalty. Saying hat a game that is arguable the best in it's genre is unimportant because it isn't on a popular system baffles me. It'll be like saying Halo was unimportant in the grand scheme of things because the PS2 was so wildly popular.

oh well. we're all entitled to our opinions. but i recommend that you not ignore great games because they aren't on your system of choice. You'll really miss out on some of the best gaming has to offer.

This gen is certainly worse than the last.
On all fronts really.
3DS wishes it was as interesting as the DS.
My Wii backlog is something like 50 times the size of my WiiU library and it's really not on the same level at all.
I appear to have a ps4 and outside of Bloodborne there's nothing I can see me shelling money for at all.
3DS gets the most play, WiiU is a MK8 machine right now and the ps4 is so enticing there's literally an ocean between us.

Thanks to incredibly dismal release on the Xbone/PS4 and the 3DS/WiiU being region locked I'm saving money like no tomorrow.

I don't know about saving, but it's a ****ing fantastic complementary system to a next-gen system or a PC.

Would have missed out on a lot of the greatest stuff without it.

bro please press ENTER and TAB every now and again. Not many people can read it like that; me being one of them.

You're better off just not reading his posts anyway. I like to think it's his way of letting those who don't know to just not worry about it.

You couldn't be more wrong, OP. Let's make a simple comparison. We take a genre that's one of the industry's darlings, let's say... JRPGS. Let's compare the output for all 3 consoles this gen.

PS4 + Xbox One:
Final Fantasy XV through XV-5
Final Fantasy XVI

WiiU:
nothing of note

Evidence points to the Wii U being the black sheep. Black, smelly sheep.

So your point is that black is the best kind of wool color for a sheep?

has some good games then. then I agree.
Mario 3D World, NSMBU/NSLU, MK8, Tropical Freeze, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Smash 4, Hyrule Warriors, LEGO City Undercover, Captain Toad, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, EarthBound, etc.

I mean, sure, opinions will vary on what you define as "good", but "some"? Doesn't hold water. On the flipside, people dismissing PS4 and XBO as only being good for multiplats are way off base too.

Lol, what?

I bought a Wii u to beat xenoblade chronicle. After that its just sutting there collecting dust. I would like to get bayonetta but too busy with mkx. But yeah wiiu needs to save itself before saving this gen.

Well you have to look at it this way, When the WiiU was the only console out for that whole year and doing terrible, that was what got people to say that consoles were dead and that the X1 and PS4 never even had a chance, The wiiU has good games but it's still early for the PS4 and X1 and you could also say that that Nintendo has lauched all their big games already while those big games have still yet to come for the PS4 and X1, but in the end it's all opinions and enjoy what you have

Right, which makes the topic even for strange.... When it was out there vs the PS3 and 360 as the first next gen console it caused folks to claim console gaming was dead when it struggled.

This is 2015...I think by the end of 2016 we can say for sure the Wii U failed. It saved this gen...? the better selling consoles did. What would game developers do if the Wii U was the only console out or if all sold like it? I imagine they would be looking at a Plan B, C, D, etc.

It hasn't even saved Nintendo

Amiibo may tho

It certainly gave me plenty of great games to play, but so does my Vita and no one is going to make a thread like this about Vita

Yea I like my Vita but I wouldnt dare make a thread about it like this. I like it alot more than the 3DS which is also in the home.

If you aren't aware of any good games that aren't made by Nintendo, there's not much point in making a list anyway.

Pretty much this. Its always Nintendo the best, to hell with the rest. I must like the underdogs then because I always prefer the rest over Nintendo now. Last time I didnt was the SNES...which ironically had alot better 3rd party environment for gamers. I really believe them losing Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid to Sony was the beginning of the end for 3rd parties on Nintendo consoles.

WiiU hasn't even saved WiiU owners. You apparently need a PC for that.

lol

I do give the OP credit tho for having the guts to make this thread.

I would saying crowd funding and independent development has done more for software libraries so far than any specific console. I will agree that the first party efforts on the ps4 and xbone have been pretty lackluster outside of Bloodborne, and that Nintendo's small offering is impressive in both quality and variety.

Western AAA development has been pretty shit in general to be honest. The best games of the generation so far have been Japanese titles, indie games, and PC exclusives... then again that's not too much different from the previous generation I suppose.

This is basically exactly how I would define some. Around a dozen games isn't really a lot, in my opinion. The last 3 or 4 gens, I have had at least a hundred games for my main platform of choice. I probably have around 300 PS3 games, partially thanks to PS+. So yeah, a dozen games isn't a massive achievement to me.

This is an opinion:

"The WiiU save this Gen for me"

This is a question asking for a factual binary answer (Yes/No):

"Has the Wii-U saved us this Gen?"

lol

"The WiiU save this Gen for me""

that's what the OP says though.
whats reading comprehension

(read the OP, not just the title)

Don't be dense, he clearly seeks validation by like-minded gamers rather stating a universal fact like some mathematical function.
I mean he asks a question.

Only if you disregard all third parties. People on this board put too much weight into exclusives. While Wii U has great exclusives they have zero third party games. Wii U would absolutely have to be supplemented with a PS4,Xbone, or gaming PC.

I'd get a Wii U if I had the time to play more than one console. But I've really happy with my PS4. There's been some fun exclusives and good thirty party games with more to come.

It's basically a color wheel, ain't it?

If you're exclusively Wii U, you're Red, and you agree.
If you're exclusively PS4, you're Blue, and you disagree.
If you're exclusively XB1, you're... yellow? And probably disagree.
If you're Wii U+PS4/XB1, you're orange, and relatively agree.
If you're PS4+XB1, you're green, and wholeheartedly disagree.
If you're PC+any, you're purple, and give a slight nod.
If you're PC only, then you're black, and black don't give no-fucks.

If you're strictly 3DS, Vita, or mobile, you're white, and no one likes you. Get out of here.

This gen has a clear winner. It's Wii U/PC. Best bang for your buck, etc.

The PS4 and Xbox One are great if you like call of duty or the latest madden/Fifa game in 720p

Or high end racing games, indies, platformers, 3rd person action games, RPGs, VR, Voice Chat, more than 12 players in online matches, more than 1 big game in 2015 and 2016, more than 0 games in 2017, etc.

WiiU hasn't saved anything, but it may have done irreparable harm to Nintendos console business.

About that...

Having owned a Wii U for a while until i sold it off, my experience was trying to justify the existence of the Wii U in my home. I eventually sold mine because, while the very few games on the system i was interested in were good, there werent anywhere near enough to keep me invested in the platform.

If i don't play the unit in 4 months straight, not even missing it, that's a problem. I would consider it a failure.

On the other hand, my PS4 has kept me busy for a long while, with third party multiplats as well as exclusives, and even some first party games
