Has the Wii-U saved us this Gen?

It's basically a color wheel, ain't it?

If you're exclusively Wii U, you're Red, and you agree.
If you're exclusively PS4, you're Blue, and you disagree.
If you're exclusively XB1, you're... yellow? And probably disagree.
If you're Wii U+PS4/XB1, you're orange, and relatively agree.
If you're PS4+XB1, you're green, and wholeheartedly disagree.
If you're PC+any, you're purple, and give a slight nod.
If you're PC only, then you're black, and black don't give no- ****.

If you're strictly 3DS, Vita, or mobile, you're white, and no one likes you. Get out of here.

I'm orange, and laughing at the thought of agreeing.

The Wii U gave hope to gamers. It kept none for itself.

shots fired LOL

Not at all industry wide as it's selling like crap and the PS4 has been selling like crazy, and even the X1 with it's botched launch is well ahead of the Wii U.

Not for me personally as I sold one after 8 months or so as I just had no desire to play it after getting a PS4. I'd rather play Nintendo's style of games on my 3DS, and keep my big screen gaming time for stuff like Bloodborne, Fifa, Project Cars etc.

It's great to have Nintendo providing something different for sure. I like playing some lighter hearted, more cartoonish looking games to break things up from time to time. But I'd rather do that on protables and keep with more realistic and technically advanced graphics games when I have time to game on the big screen.

I thought the NX will be an extension of their existing platforms, not a replacement, unless that's not what you're talking about.

They haven't specifically said it was hardware or anything just yet, just that they will present info on what NX is.

Lets be real, if you were going to announce new hardware next year would you announce it this year? They did an update on the 3Ds hardware because they will tie their next handheld to the new console.

To me the only correct answer here is the Wii U is not a part of this gen or last gen. Nintendo is doing their own thing. When they announce new hardware in 2016 everyone is going to classify that with this current gen as well even though it will have at least a 2 year jump.

We can only save ourselves by enjoying the games we'd like to play on whatever platforms we own or want to buy instead of arguing about what platform is universally better on video game forums

If anything Nintendo's poor marketing, choice of name, and mediocre hardware has been more of a harm to the game industry than anything else. Sure Nintendo has put out some quality titles on the system, but they could have done that on a platform that was far better than the Wii U.

It can definitely save your backlog. The Wii U gets so few game releases that you get the opportunity to finish your backlog.

No, in fact I would say the failure of the Wii U is actually detrimental to the industry

This is also correct. Anyone of us here on this site could sell 20 million Wii U's overnight just for a 6 pack of beer as payment.

Full blown 3D Pokemon Wii U
Zelda (last year not next year or this year)
Pokemon Snap U
StarFox
Animal Crossing
More new IPs
Metroid

Then bam! the 3rd parties come back because of a larger install base.

No way in hell. Wii U as a machine absolutely SUCKS. It has nice exclusives yes but it never was and never will be enough to save the gen.

Without Sony and Microsoft to push this market I don't want to think where we would be now. Probably still playing offline with cartridges and sub HD underpowered/overpriced hardware.

Hyperbole's aside, the WiiU has certainly offered a different experience this generation so far. When I switch between PS4 and WiiU, I genuinely feel like I'm playing a different console with a different experience.

A weird analogy, but I suppose as an Orange I do somewhat agree. The Wii U is a fantastic system and has had around 5 times the play time as my XB1 and PS4 combined...Which in turn have combined play time less than Vita which has a little less play time than my 3DS.

I'd say the Wii U has kept this gen from being generic and just a mediocre extension of last gen: sure. But debating this point is subjective anyway and where we can objectively measure things (IE Sales) the Wii U has done nothing but let down the industry.

Seriously? What kind of experience does the Wii U offer that the Ps4 doesn't?

Having owned a Wii U for a while until i sold it off, my experience was trying to justify the existence of the Wii U in my home. I eventually sold mine because, while the very few games on the system i was interested in were good, there werent anywhere near enough to keep me invested in the platform.

If i don't play the unit in 4 months straight, not even missing it, that's a problem. I would consider it a failure.

On the other hand, my PS4 has kept me busy for a long while, with third party multiplats as well as exclusives, and even some first party games
Man posts like this make me feel like I experience games way differently than most people. During last gen I would switch between playing PS3 and Wii and not touch one or the other for several months at a time, but I never felt like I shouldn't own one of them

Valllllllidation. Jussssstification. Ohhhhh what a mess we made... when the Wiiiiiii-U bombed.

In all seriousness, the Wii-U is what it is, and the PS4/X1 are what they are. They all have a place in the market, so it should be left at that.

Seriously? What kind of experience does the Wii U offer that the Ps4 doesn't?

Different types of gameplay experiences. PS4 is my big open world, flashy graphics system. Wii U is my tight gameplay system. Their only real overlap are indies, but they each have enough indie exclusives to be different.

Of course there are games of ll types on both platforms, but thats how the split shakes out in my own usage of both consoles. I also play my Wii U far more than my PS, but again, it comes down to gaming tastes. For me, they compliment each other well.

It's definitely been a good source of old-school gaming enjoyment that I can't really get on other platforms. Wii U games are less about being connected at all times and more about just being classic fun, which is something I appreciate. I get way more use out of it than I do my Xbox One, but PS4 still takes the cake for me.

Don't be dense, he clearly seeks validation by like-minded gamers rather stating a universal fact like some mathematical function.
I mean he asks a question.

You can validate the rest of OPs post all you want. I agree that the WiiU is a great system, I just think, comparatively, its far behind the PS4/XBone/PC

I responded to OP's question:

Has the Wii-U saved us this Gen?

and OP's answer

I really think it has and who would of thought it?

If what OP asked, and answered in the title and first sentence, is not what the post is about; Then its a shit thread (IMO) and OP is flamebaiting (also IMO)

Criticism aside, it didn't really save anything but always there to give us another option and the kind of games you can't get anywhere else. Plus the drought of games for the newer consoles was much more noticeable when you only own either an Xbone or a PS4. (or both)

There is always going to be that itch to play the Nintendo games, and a personal matter is that I finally get to play titles during the GC and most of the Wii era because I was such a cynical twit in my 20s trying to be like the cool people that were my circle of friends.

So.. there's that.

I plan to buy one eventually, perhaps in a year or so. I may buy 3-4 games for it over time.

My PS4's nearly half full 2TB hdd, however...

Well, it's the only console I have from this gen, so I suppose it has for me.
Granted, I'll probably pick up a XBox One or PS4 in a year or so, but that's almost exclusively because of Rock Band.

The news about Konami saying they are going to embrace mobile as the main platform brings up a good point.

If more major developers "jump ship" and leave the consoles relying on first party games, who do you think will Be in a better position in the future, the system that has sold 20+ million consoles and relies mostly on 3rd party games, or the one that's sold 8+ million, but has a more diverse lineup of first party games that on average have been received much better?

I have a Wii U, a PS4, a Vita, a n3DSXL, and a PC. While I use each of them when a game I want comes out, I seem to look forward to the Nintendo first party games more so. Games like FFXV and MGSV look amazing and I'm going to get them day 1, but when I see all the publicity for the newest CoD, AC, BF, ect, I just notice that they are yearly updates to the games with few changes made to make some easy $$.

That's where Nintendo seems to be ahead if more big name developers jump ship, you can buy a Nintendo game and know that it won't be rereleased next year with a few more players, no need to have to buy the next CoD because when it comes out most people stop playing the others online, and the same with racing games. For example, there has been a forms game released each year on X1. Now I don't have one, but I wonder how many people still play the older ones online? Main Nintendo franchises (Smash, MK, NSMB) have all only been released once per console.

Ahh, it was just me foolin' around and being a chunderhead, because, you're right, it's all subjective in the end.

Besides I'm like turquoise or shitbrown colored cause of the combinations I own.

Seriously? What kind of experience does the Wii U offer that the Ps4 doesn't?
There's currently nothing on PS4 which would give me what I get from Bayonetta, Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Pikmin and so on. The only PS4 game which piques my interest right now is Bloodborne, but I can get the 'Souls' experience elsewhere for now.

PS4 saved me this gen.
Such a wonderful mix of great first and third party AAA games and an amazing choice of top notch indie games, coupled with a steady stream of Japanese games, all while being region-free has me trying to free up my time to manage to play everything I find interesting.

WiiU I wouldn't take if it was given to me for free. I find it catering to a very limited target audience, and I am not a part of it.

Well forget about the success of the console, it's delivered on games, surely that's what matters?

Its supposed to be what matters....but some people blame it for not being up to date with social functions and media. Which I think is ridiculous considering your buying a gaming console for, you know.....gaming?

Its funny how I know some people who own PS4 and the thing they mostly do on it is facebook on it and only watch movies....then say they got it for gaming, only owning 2 games and no PS plus. Then shit on Nintendo....yep. =|

Note, I think the PS4 is fantastic and played a lot of games on it already. So dont think in shitting on it.

Nintendo should strive to be an industry leader rather than just being the weird guy that nobody in the industry supports.

Nintendo goes and does something different and nobody follows along. Rather than lead, they've just decided to go streaking.

you can get experiences the above games give elsewhere too you know.

The hilarious thing is some people actually believe shit like this.
