Has the Wii-U saved us this Gen?

I have a Wii U and a PS4 (and a Vita), and while I love a few games on the Wii U I spend the vast majority of my time on the PS4. The social features alone make it a better console.
Weird. I haven't turned my PS4 on in months, and the few times I have months ago it was to see what it was like to watch someone on Twitch. I bought too early for my tastes :( No mans sky still looks like it might be neat (or awful) though!

You can validate the rest of OPs post all you want. I agree that the WiiU is a great system, I just think, comparatively, its far behind the PS4/XBone/PC

I'm in the extreme minority but I really couldn't care less if PC as a platform would burst into flame and rain apocalypse from its newly formed sixteen mouths.
Disregarding indies for a second, PS4/Xbone are really close in term of library, aside from Bloodborne if there's a game you want to play on ps4 you'll find an equivalent on the xbone and vice-versa.
I like my games physical and the offer right now is dismal for everyone really so I wouldn't even agree with the OP :lol.

I responded to OP's question:

and OP's answer

If what OP asked, and answered in the title and first sentence, is not what the post is about. Then its a shit thread (IMO) and OP is flamebaiting (also IMO)

Well I think that the OP asked a question and explained how and why he felt that way.
Obviously you can disagree but I don't think you can dismiss his opinion by just handwaving him a "Nintendo fanboy" card in his face or something.

Actually, I like WiiU and to me (at the moment) it's the only console that has enough to buy.

I sure hope Sony (as well as MS) delivers all of its secrets and projects on E3 and I hope to get PS4 within a year or so, but up till now, I see no real reason to get PS4 or XOne.

Sure, remasters, sure, Order, sure, Second Son. Not enough.

Dat Bayo2, dat W101, dat Mario, dat Wind Waker, Nintendoland, Smash, Pikmin. They are worth it. And, wait a minute, even without E3 I know that new Xenoblade waits for me just within a month or two.

I believe Nintendo is saving games overall! I see people sometimes complaining about their "old"/traditional mind when developing their games, BUT are these games that still make some of us to remember what videogames are made for. Nintendo games are simple, fun, charismatic, and they never tend to appeal to the graphicism or realism. They shine for their gameplay, and thats what games are mainly about.

There are, and there should always be, space for high productions with amazing graphics and realistic atmosphere and stuff, but games are more then that.

And I'm not even a nintendo fanboy.
Say something hurtful like that again and you will be.

I think so long as Nintendo, Sony, and M$ are still in the console game, some Nintendo gamers will always cite the Nintendo console as being the savior.

So long as AAA gaming is still hit or miss and PS and MS share a ton of their games, Nintendo fans will see Nintendo as a "pure" form of gaming.

Well guess Sony and Microsoft need to thank Nintendo more.

Man the Revisionist history is starting early this time around.

Define pure form of gaming

It's been a bumpy ride so far, but it has managed to become a haven that's truly for games in an environment that's increasingly feeling like it's just focusing more and more on AAA numbers, freemium dollars, DRM, etc.

In some ways, it really feels like one of the few remaining bastions for games.

Define pure form of gaming

Games that feel like they're made from the ground up to deliver a gaming experience as opposed to shove all the current-day "frills" that plague most major releases? No annual, carbon copy AAA titles that feel like they don't innovate anything, no DLC that feels sleazy or predatory, no 3rd party specific smarmy online accounts to long into, no online connection required for single player games, etc.

I bought a Wii U last year and have about 7 games for it. I have turned it on twice. Right now it's the Vita that has kept me in gaming, and to a good degree the PS4. I also have a bunch of games I want to play on the 3DS but I rarely muster up the will to do so.

I'm waiting for Zelda and Xenoblade Chronicles X, EDIT: and FE X SMT, they're the only reason I haven't deeply regretted my purchase...yet.

The WiiU has some great games already, mostly of them from Nintendo that, for me, have the best exclusives right now.

But it's impossible to pass this generation with only a WiiU.. you need at least one more console (XboxOne, PS4 or PC) to experience this generation at its fullest. The same applies if you don't have a WiiU and have another console.

In my case the combo PS4 + WiiU are enough for the next years.

WELP.

Wii U Purchase validation confirmed I guess.

Another thread to help someone feel good about their purchase.

If you have to have some sort of Thread be made to validate your love for a console you bought, then maybe it isn't the greatest console?

Or maybe you have doubt in your mind about your purchase?

I don't know either way getting sick of validation thread's which seem to pop up more for Nintendo than any other console.

Seriously? What kind of experience does the Wii U offer that the Ps4 doesn't?

Platformers, strong local multiplayer, free online, kid-friendly games.

I'm not defending the OP, just stating it's saved it for his/her subjective tastes (and others).

My exact reaction when seeing the thread title.

Well if it wasn't for Wii U I wouldn't have bought any home consoles this gen but I still wouldn't say it saved anything. Nintendo is still the biggest part of this hobby to me but that's just how it has always been.

Same for me. There was no question I wouldn't buy a Wii U given I've been a Nintendo fan since the beginning, but it really hasn't save much of console gaming for me. I greatly prefer Nintendo's GCN/early Wii games to their late Wii/Wii U output.

This is also correct. Anyone of us here on this site could sell 20 million Wii U's overnight just for a 6 pack of beer as payment.

Full blown 3D Pokemon Wii U
Zelda (last year not next year or this year)
Pokemon Snap U
StarFox
Animal Crossing
More new IPs
Metroid

Then bam! the 3rd parties come back because of a larger install base.

The hilarious thing is some people actually believe shit like this.

What's so hard to believe about people buying the games they've asked Nintendo to make for years? I agree that having Zelda out "late" compared to being out last year isn't as clear cut as them simply waiting to start development but all the games he listed would push massive numbers of Wii U consoles.

It's my favourite console in a long time and I'm playing it almost daily, but it won't save anything lol. It's more of a companion console to a PS4/XONE/PC and I'm fine with that.

It's their worst home console with some of their best games.

I don't know. We're still pretty early into this generation of consoles. There are still lots of games coming out so this thread is a bit hyperbole imo. Don't get me wrong -- the Wii U is a fantastic console.

The true answer is Fallout 4. It's going to save this gen.

Well forget about the success of the console, it's delivered on games, surely that's what matters?

Nope, what matters is sales figures. I (and evidently many other posters) can't enjoy a game or console knowing it hasn't sold jack shit /s

Though seriously the Wii U is the only console I picked up this gen, and nothing is making me rethink that position from the other consoles. Everything is too 'serious' in the AAA environment. Every game has to be bigger, more complex and pushing some edgy narrative. The games are 'enjoyable' to a degree, in that I might be interested in where the story is heading or I am simply playing something to pass the time; which is the opposite of the Wii U which delivers the least pretentious titles. The games are just flat out 'fun' in a way that makes you smile and the mechanics in the games are incredibly tight and worked on to near perfection. many of the big budget exclusives seem to work around a hook mechanic. Something that is unique to that title that differentiates itself from the plethora of other titles doing much the same thing. That hook might be unique but by a quarter of the way through it loses its uniqueness and just starts to blend into the rest of the game where Nintendo have this way of constantly introducing new ideas and mechanics throughout the games so every new level or area is a different experience and remains fresh the whole way through. You can see it most easily in games like Super 3D Mario World where despite the fact the game is a 3D platformer, every game level is structured around a different core mechanic and design. Excluding any cohesive narrative or story allows the developers more freedom to do those sort of things. It doesn't need to make sense in the greater scheme of things, it just needs to be fun and thats where I feel like Nintendo hits the mark. Their games are rarely ever one trick ponies.

Nintendo just have a differently philosophy to game design that is unique, simple and easy to enjoy. I never feel like I am 'working' my way through a Nintendo game as much as I am experiencing the ride. For me, that's what makes their games more timeless, you can always go back and just enjoy the game for what it is, where with other titles I often find I hit a point where I wouldn't replay a game because I already know the story so theres no real drive to experience it again or I can play any number of games that essentially do the same thing to varying degrees of success but with a different coat of paint.

It's totally subjective. OP clearly isn't speaking in the context of market share, mind-share, capabilities, number of games. Only within context of his/her subjective opinion...which is kind of far.

Maybe 'The Wii-U saved this gen for me' would have been a more appropriate thread title and jumping-off point. There are a number of gaffers who only go PC-WiiU or claim WiiU is their most played console. It's not insane the suggest the console has some value.

Yeah, and your point is? I legitimately love my PS4, Vita and PS3 more than my WiiU, so what?

Your tone is strong against a person who posted an opinion on the internet.
Maybe you should take a break from it.

This thread will not go well, won't be surprised if it gets locked.

On the subject; I don't have a WiiU, but of all the 3 current gen console its the one I am more attractive to
Too bad it will lose against PS3 :p

I think from the other replies it is clear who does and doesn't own a Wii U here.
Naw I have a wii u, bought all the good exclusives and it collects dust. My kids would mayyyybe play it if it had minecraft. Why the FUCK isn't minecraft on the wii u? You know your third party situation is bad when you can't get minecraft.

If what OP asked, and answered in the title and first sentence, is not what the post is about; Then its a shit thread (IMO) and OP is flamebaiting (also IMO)

It's just my honest opinion, it's not flame baiting, I'm genuinely surprised, and I've been buying those others platforms day one and have a high end PC.

If OP wants to discuss an opinion, OP needs to change the thread title (What draws the reader to even open OP's thread). and OP needs to edit out the first response to the thread title.

Based on the Thread title and first sentence, I dont care what OP opinion is. Even still I agreed it was a great System, but in my opinion, the competition is better.

I call this a flame baiting shit thread, because now, OP has people debating each other with 2 different narratives.

Is WiiU a system of Value v.s Did WiiU save us this Gen?

Those are 2 seperate discussion and combining them is flame baiting, IMO

It's just my honest opinion, it's not flame baiting, I'm genuinely surprised, and I've been buying those others platforms day one and have a high end PC.

The latter half of your post is opinion-based, and thats fine, but your title and answer to that title is drawing people to your thread under a false dichotomy. Maybe you should add "for you" at the end of the title

WiiU has been a pretty great console for fans of Nintendo games and is by far the best couch coop experience right now, but it was never going to have universal appeal.

Speaking strictly of exclusives, it's been more worth it than the other current gen systems so far, but I think that speaks more to how disappointing output on the PS4 and XB1 has been. On the flipside, PS4 and XB1 are just hitting their strides and have tons of upside left, whereas the WiiU seems to be winding down.

This thread is hilarious. And weird. Still don't get OP point. Wii-U is a good console for him so it saved the gaming world?? Is that it??

Talk about gathering dust.....I have never seen a WiiU, and I live in London UK.

They don't stock them in most shops.

Seen pictures of this elusive creature on GAF and on web sites....apparently its nocturenal

It really boils down to OP posting subjective opinion with a major hyperbole of a thread title, inducing tons of controversy.
