Has there ever been a game so insanely deep that...

Glitches? If not, well, then major correction #1, I was incorrect.

But, if it's glitches, I wouldn't count it. We're looking for depth of gameplay/features, not bugs.

Well I'm not sure what some of the stuff counts as a glitch or not (like getting behind Crocomire), but surely the reverse boss order run (no glitches need to be used afaik) or no boss/mini boss run would probably be applicable.

Either way, some stuff has been found by non-hackers for the game up until recently. Some may be considered glitches, others probably aren't.

If anyone has played Quest for Glory 4, they'll know that the special moves for each class were NEVER discovered. Even to this day. There are rumors that they were never actually coded in, which is why no one found them, but when you play as a thief and you go into auto-battle, the computer sometimes uses the rolling acrobatic move. There was an interview with a guy YEARS back where he said that he's never going to reveal the secret but that it was there.

This terrible fucking secret has been bugging me to this day, and it's been MORE than 10 years! :lol

There was a small subset of demented people, which included me, who dissected Monster Rancher 2 in great painstaking detail just to figure out all the multipliers, variables and whatnot that governed monster growth and breeding technique. No such research, as far as I know, as gone into the GBA Monster Rancher games, which is probably part of why I'm having so much fun with them now.

I still drive around San Andres looking for new details and buildings.

Too bad you can't go into them :lol

I would have to say Ultima 7 with the hacks turned on. There's still so much in that game I haven't seen.

Miyamoto said there was a sceret in OOT no one had found
Goldeneye had the push-button codes for people who couldn't earn the cheats the proper way, these were revealed years after the release.

OOT and GE have tons of shit hidden in the carts that was removed at the last second. The code is there, you just have to get to it.

MK? Ed Boon is a moron. Nobody WANTS to find that shit, nor does it exist.

Metroid has tons of stuff. You can get to it through normal gameplay, so it counts (unlike a lot of the OOT, GE stuff).

What is this special password for Metroid you speak of? Surely you don't mean

A couple of years ago, a Japanese competitor in the US EVO2K tournament surprised everyone with new Zangief strategy in Street Fighter II.

I haven't really kept with with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the past couple of years, but I did follow it for about three years and new stuff was always being discovered.

I was always ahead of the game before all my friends thanks to:

i still haven't seen all of the hidden world in Ridley's hidout (METROID). I mapped a good 60 screens of it, but there's a long vertical corridor on the far left that is so hard to get to (have to bomb over metal tube) and so many doors there are traps

I've always wanted to try a Monster Rancher. Which one do you think would be the best? I alway here 2 for PS, but I'm not sure.

In an interview in 1999 Ed Boon said there was NOT anything new to find in the old MK games. I don't know where this stuff about him saying there was more to find came from but it comes up on the internet all the time. Like most of the BS about MK I think it's just misinformation that's been passed around so much it's been accepted as fact.

I remember playing through castlevania SOTN the first time, something I did summoned some huge moo-cow that killed off the entire screen ... haven't seen it on any other playthroughs or FAQs, but I might not be lookin' too hard.

Colossus was on the right track, I hope they put more things in the sequel --- so many little moves that aren't explained to the player - like the downward lunge with the sword, and all the different paths up the colossi.

The only correct answer is SSBM.

It is pretty amazing some of the stuff people have found possible in that game. There are many things I still haven't seen.

The first need for speed game on the PS1... I remember owning it for a couple years only to see a new secret track (there were many discovered the first few months) published in some mag... race on the moon or somehting like that.

Not sure if they count but as much as I love racing I have never completed GT1 2 3 or 4. I open them up and collect a shitload of cars, but as for finishing every race in first place... nope.

I just realised the other Day I never finished the last level of Crash bandicoot 3. PS1 :)

I'm thinking the poster is talking about NARPAS SWORD0 000000 000000 instead. That was found more recently (couple years ago).

I believe if you equip the leather shield and the shield rod, then press square and circle at the same time, it summons a cow that raises your defense.

Yes, FZX.

Yep, F-Zero X is one of those deep games where players just kept finding new strategies and new tricks for year after year. Current speedrecord vids are just damn crazy.. (check some here )

Altough the same can be said for every other F-Zero game.

In-game, programmed secrets? (Because otherwise, yeah, the now-infamous OoT Arwing and how people STILL manage to find new things buried in the Sonic ROMs would qualify.)

I can't think of many of those, not secrets people would be looking for. There's a few that aren't well-known about... And one of the better-kept ones was the Episode 1 ship hidden in Rouge Squadron for the N64, for something like a year... not to mention the Buick actually making it into Rogue Leader (which really must've been shoved in right under the wire, since there's so many ways it can cause lock-ups).

Also, Itagaki has DoA gamers constantly looking for things he only references by code names or in vague ways. Ask any DoA gamer about "Godhand" and they'll probably scowel.
