Has Your City Been "Open Worlded?"

NYC has been done multiple times. GTAIV did the best job of making it feel like the actual city.
Yes, many times over. GTA IV is the best representation of NYC I've seen, but I felt they captured the feeling, vibe, and aesthetic of the outer boroughs better than did my home borough of Manhattan. Can't think of any game that's done a great job with Manhattan actually.
They did a great job with Queens too. Haven't gone back and played it since I've been living in Brooklyn.

As far as I'm aware, I don't know of any open world game that took place in Philadelphia.

Although a US Civil War game might have possibly glossed upon it, since Philadelphia was the first capital of the US before the Constitution was ratified.

Although from one post in this thread, apparently a new Homefront game is taking place there.

So it might be interesting to check it out and see how many liberties are taken place with it.

I was really happy to see Cleopatra's Needle in AC Syndicate, even though it technically wasn't erected in London until a decade after the game's date. It's my favourite thing to see in London - a 3000 year old monument that even pre-dates its namesake by 1000 years.

I genuinely felt guilty climbing up this piece of history in the game.

I've lived in this city for decades and never bothered to check it out, maybe I should get on changing that.

Not exactly my city, but areas within 50km / 35 miles from me I'm very familiar with are featured in PGR2, Assassin's Creed 2 and inspired locations for Forza Horizon 2.

None of them attempted to recreate the cities/town 1:1 (except PGR2, with the usual good results) but they generally did a pretty good job at capturing the overall feeling and aesthetics.

Gran Turismo 5 somewhat has my city in it.

And I guess that 007 Quantum of Solace game should have at least one level that takes place in my city.

Deus Ex HR had the Olympic Stadium, but otherwise, I don't think Montreal's been represented, which is a shame, I think it would work very well and provide a really interesting interesting environment.

Paris yes :

Because it also features my home town, the harbor in the top left and that the ONLY game as far as I know featuring this town

Oh i'm just a university student

Ah ok. I studied in Bolzano and when I visited Venice I thought how it's mt favorite city I've ever been to. But I also wondered what it would be like to live there. My friends were less optimistic than me and thought there were no real jobs and all the tourists would be annoying.

I'm staying currently in hong kong and I don't feel that sleeping dogs did a good job.

Kof 94 and 96 did a good job with the backgrounds imo.

Oh they are lol
But there's some job you can find, either something low-tier like seasonal waiter/shop assistant or something specialized at high-level linked to tourism or art or food.
And yes, it's a pretty weird city to live in.

Nope, but in terms of essence Everyone's Gone to the Rapture captured many quintessentially English things. Triggered so many false sensations. Everything from the Heritage walking posts to the tractor tires holding down a muddy tarp.

I live near Vancouver (well across the water) and that was a level in a Tony Hawk game once.

I remember thinking that it captured the vibe of Van pretty well

Forza Horizon is far out of the city and surrounding suburbs, so it's all foothills, trees and small towns. Doesn't even have Colfax.

I commute up I-70 every day, so maybe I haven't picked it up since it kind of sound like a commute simulator for me. Thanks for the answer.

Nope, Dallas sprawls too much to be made into an open world game, there would be no way to properly represent it without having a very flat boring world.

Honestly Denver is like this too. It's kind of the reason why racing games are the best hope for us to see our own landmarks and stuff recreated.

Should I buy The Crew?

Does Venice smell and have lots of flies? I've always wondered.

It smells when there's it's not windy and the stagnant air from the canals comes up, plus it' a city that is impossible to keep 100% clean (and the tourists certainly don't help).
There aren't too much flies, but mosquitoes in summer? Good lord it's like a from software nightmare.

Yikes. I hate those levels so I will avoid ever visiting in the summer.

Watch_Dogs did Chicago sooo dirty, they even fucked up The Bean.

How could you fuck up The Bean?
The worst part was there wasn't even a single Portillo's in sight.

I'm guessing they don't have the rights to recreate some of the buildings and art pieces.

That part doesn't bother me as much because they got the michigan ave. around millenium park down pretty well. It's the mountains and windmills right next to the city that bother me. Also no museum campus? No Chinatown? All the places north of downtown got flooded when Lake Michigan mysteriously expanded north?

I used to live in New York so you bet your sweet snickerdoodles my city's gotten the treatment. I'm still waiting for a good Eastern Parkway representation.
