Has Your City Been "Open Worlded?"

I don't think Prague was ever in an open world game, but you might be able to correct me.

None were open-world, but at least it showed up in a few racing games and MGS4. I feel like it's bound to appear in an Assassin's Creed in some form if it hasn't already...

Chicago in Watch.Dogs was basically "Generic French Canadian open-world city + Sears Tower + the L". They just invented shit out of whole cloth, pretty much.

It's good being from NYC. My city has been "open worlded" many many times but I have to point out GTA IV's rendition of NYC.

Although not perfect it managed to capture some of the grittiness the city has to offer. The pedestrians were stereotyped to be rude which isn't the case all the time.

Brooklyn (Broker in-game) in particular was a sight to see and I remember my dad being excited about certain sections because he could recognize them off the bat.

Yup, agree with this. The Bronx is my hometown and "Bohan" (in-name game for the Bronx) was also a really good approximation of the real thing. All in all I thought Liberty City was very well done.

I have Russian friends and they were amused/happy with the Coney Island portions (forgetting what they were called in the game...)

Assassin's Creed III does a good job with colonial New York, as well.

Now I live in DC and can't think of an open world game that I've played that is set here.

One day maybe they make a GTA game based on São Paulo ..... and if they go border cities MAYBE they do my city.

maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe

São Paulo was featured in Max Payne 3, so Rockstar is definitely aware of how corrupt and intricate the country is, maybe they'll base a spin-off of the series in the city.

Don't see mainline GTA ever leaving the United States.

I live in San Francisco and GTA: San Andreas was a pretty good approximation. They didn't do too many individual houses, but the main roads and landmarks are there and easily recognizable. Everything is squished of course so it's not like a few blocks from one end of the city to the other.

Philadelphia should've been in AC3, but they decided to skip it. It is also omitted from The Crew. It will get a version in Homefront the Revolution, but that looks like a pretty bad game.

Midtown madness 2 has a crazy Sf.

Or Driver sf

There's a lot missing (due to Lake Michigan flooding, or whatever the hell happened) and the suburbs start like a mile outside the loop, but aside from that a lot of landmarks were included, or included in a "generic" sort of way. Hell, I live in the city but watching Chip and Ironicus do their "architectural tour" in Watch Dogs was still pretty educational.

It's been a while since I've played Driver 2, but I'm willing to bet its map isn't as accurate.

I suppose New Orleans has Infamous 2, Mafia 3, and Left 4 Dead 2.

There was a NOLA level in Left 4 Dead 2. If I remember correctly it's just a basic mardi gras/french quarter map. Fine I suppose.

I guess technically infamous 2 and even Mafia 3 count as New Orleans as well. Both those seem pretty good.

I've never played any of these games, but I'm just gonna quote these posts and point at them for my answer.

Funny thing, I actually put Seattle on my list of places to visit in the US last year because of Infamous: SS, and yeah the area is totally nothing like it is in the game. Which is cool because real Seattle is way, way cooler. Seriously, I am so jealous of people who get to live there every day.

I got a very Vancouver vibe from Infamous: SS's Seattle. I've never been to Seattle, and I've only visited Vancouver once, but it felt similar to me.
