Hatchet Wielding Hitch Hiker.

Anyone watch the documentary about him on Netflix?

Famous for this interview:

In another life he would be a famous musician, this is so good:

Hell, he looks a little like a dude I use to hang out with called Laney, wonder what ever happened to that dude, he literally introduced me to a modded Xbox and Custer's revenge, such a cool guy. (Wish I made more effort to keep in contact)

Apparently he beat a 74 year old dude to death, who he says drugged and raped him.

Dude clearly has mental issues, but I think he is being honest.

Haven't seen the documentary but watching that clip I believe him. Why? He got picked up in Times Square. If it was anywhere else I'd have serious doubts, but Times Sq is a real creep magnet. Always has been. It's a lot better now but the dude who picked him up was 74, and that tells me he's been hanging round there since the bad old days. It ain't too far fetched to think Kai wasn't his first victim.

I've never heard of time sqaure being a bad area, then again I'm not an American, maybe I should Google and look into it.

Before Giuliani came along it was a fucking cess pit. It was an open air market for hookers, rent boys and drugs. Every scumbag and psycho in NY used to hang round there. People give Giuliani shit all the time. I get it. The dude’s gone nuts, but Times Square is the way it is now because he had the balls to go in there and face down the mob who controlled it

For sure. It was a bad spot. I grew up in Red Hook which was pretty rough, but I walked round there at all hours without a thought. I never went through Times Sq without a can of pepper spray in my pocket. That area was lawless at night. To this day the NYPD don’t know how many people were murdered in that area because they found so many bodies they didn’t have enough cops to investigate what happened to them

Pretty fucked up story. Never heard of this guy before until today. Didn't knew he was a viral internet sensation (I don't hang around the web that much or follow social media) so watching this documentary was quite the ride.

The original video of him was funny, he seemed like such a carefree dude, just living life and then happened upon an extraordinary situation that changed his life. But the more that was revealed about him, the more I didn't care for him. Awful personality, just a douchebag all around. I get that life on the streets is rough, and his childhood didn't seem all that happy, but this whole "yeah dude surfs up, let's smoke some weed and fuck shit up" attitude just seemed fake so he could behave like a rude asshole and hurt other people. I don't know. He just rubbed me the wrong way.

But it was a compelling documentary, unlike anything really, that hitchhiker with a hatchet becomes Americas hero seemingly overnight, only to have everyone turn on you for being a murderous villain. 57 years in prison too. Probably the most bizarre turn of events I've ever seen.

Not quite the same but reminds me of this infamous interview:

You really don't know who it is you're dealing with out there.

. . .speaking of true crime, there's some excellent videos out there; if you're into this stuff, should check out the interrogation videos of "The Summerfield 5." Just brutal and heartbreaking stuff. Same when you hear about the story involving the subject of the OP.

At times he seemed genuinely really likable.

Other times you would think oh no, this dude is mentally crazy.

When he started pissing on random things and going on some crazy rants, he clearly has problems, like drug and alcohol addiction too.

I think he was messed up from drugs, being raped, childhood & various other things etc.

He seemed to swiftly deal with crappy situations with violence too.

I'm surprised no one was like wtf, when he was bashed the dude with a hatchet and then in the same interview was saying how he punched some dudes teeth out.

I was like wow, this is just crazy.

I do think he had talent with that movement song I posted above, if he wasn't such a mental case he could've probably been very wealthy and successful.

Crazy how some people are, I do think there is truth in him saying the 74 year old sexual assaulted him, but he obviously went out of control and literally smashed that man up.

I guess we will never know the truth.

Yeah it was something else, aunt used to live in SoHo, we'd go pretty much every time we went up and through the 90s you could feel it change. In retrospect they probably should have kept some of the grime, it gave the city character

That is the face of someone that got caught at the end, he knew it was over.

I can imagine at the time people would think he was shocked at the thought that people found the body of someone who he was friends with.

That is pretty scary.

Makes me think about the crocodile tear documentaries, where people are doing interviews, crying for their loved ones but the whole time they know that person is dead as they killed them.

Shocking stuff.

The transformation from how it used to be is pretty amazing. It's all Disney stores and tourists now. The porn houses and hooker hotels are long gone. When I was about 18 I got a bus boy job in one of the gay clubs on 41st. The manager warned me about what went on in there, but I thought it would be ok. The entire time I was there it was just wall to wall fucking. In the stalls. At the tables. In the hallway. Out back. I worked there for long enough that seeing dudes banging each other was just a normal day at work. Last time I went past they'd turned it into a fancy steak house. It's kind of a shame.
