Hate AT&T as much as me? Move to Straight Talk!

I hear good thibgs about Straight Talk. I ended up going to T-Mobile, though. I like those uncarrier benefits. I can completely get behind going contract-free, though. I left Sprint's crappy phone selection and crappy congestion (in my city) and said hello to cheaper bills and the land of international/unlocked phones.

Cricket uses the same network as AT&T. Their base service is $40 a month and you get 2.5 gigs before being throttled. You can shave off 5 bucks a month for signing up for auto pay. My cell bill is 35$ with no extra fees.

I appreciate all the feedback, the reason I can't go Sprint or T-mobile is because I live in rural Southeastern Indiana and there is no service.

That is why I am curious about Straight Talk.

I worked at a Radioshack in Shelbyville, and yeah, teeerrrrrrible service for that and Sprint.

That said I'm curious about Cricket.

Boost/Cricket are better, you get more data plus cheaper/better phones.

I tried Straight Talk in the past and the internet is dodgy as fuck. Lots of sites detected my IP as a spam bot or even straight up blocked me from access. The throttling is awful too once you hit your limit, it's near dialup speeds.

My fiancée works for AT&T, so disclaimer, but it's pretty well known that at the towers they lease out to other carriers, they reserve the most bandwidth for themselves.

If you get good reception from it, more power to you, but it doesn't take much to realize that AT&T is not going to let other providers match their service from the same towers, otherwise what's the point?

Had straight talk for two years. No complaints at all. I think my soft data cap is at 3G a month. But for 45 a month it's not bad. (49 after taxes)

I use Straight Talk when I'm in the states. Having a OnePlus One takes so much hassle out of owning a phone, particularly if you're like me and travel a lot. Being able to buy a cheap SIM anywhere you go (in Thailand, for instance, a SIM and 4gb of data is like $15) is priceless. I feel so sorry for people in other threads that are paying out the ass on a contract or suffering with some awful Android skin on their overpriced Samsung device.

Get the real deal, yo!

I might try the T-Mobile plan this summer when I'm stateside, though. Thoughts?

If you text a lot or send a lot of images, I would say beware. Just hopped back in with Tmobile cause I couldn't receive group texts or send images over my phone line, only over wifi hangout. Also you think the speed isn't that bad, but some moments can be bad, especially on AT&Ts stuff here in the Bay Area.

Tmobile is cool, because they don't have "contracts" any more, so it's more of a month to month thing but you're getting fucked price wise like the old days. I'm paying 110 with my s6 edge and unlimited, so coming from 40 a month on straight talk hurts a bit, but the service is worth it. Plus if you're on their service and don't have a router, they sell awesome bad ass routers for 15 bucks with an extra special antenna to give your phone great service while in doors. I had just bought one or I would've grabbed it.

I hate AT&T but I was thinking about switching to Sprint with their "cut your bill in half" bullshit. (My bill would still go down from 90 to 60/month) Never heard of straight talk, maybe I'll check it out.

I pay $45/month for Verizon prepaid for the same thing, but I get Verizon coverage. :)

It's not the same thing. You need to provide details on what you're getting. Looking at the website, it appears that you get unlimited talk/text, 1gb of data for $45/month. It looks like the data is capped. That's different from what straight talk/cricket provides which is 2.5gb of high speed data and then unlimited throttled.

I get 1gb/mo regular and 1gb/ for auto pay. It's capped, you're right, but from my experience with T-mobiles throttled speed it's pretty worthless. Besides Version's 4G has never stopped working for, even after getting messages that I've reached the cap it still keeps working, so idk what's going on.

2gb of data? Is it 2011?

Throw that junk in the trash. Tmo and Metro PCS have unlimited LTE btw. As long as you don't live in the flippin boonies, you'll be fine with them also.

I switched from Straight Talk to Metro PCS and couldn't be happier. Having unlimited 4G that isn't throttled is a lifesaver - too many times I've gone over the small 3GB limit and have been stuck with waiting minutes to load the average page. $60 (PCS) vs $45 + tax (ST) is just fine for me.

I like straight talk except it doesn't provide me the ability to do tethering. That's pretty much the only reason I'd want to switch out from them.

I had two unlimited T-Mobile lines and was paying $148 per month for them. Last night I called because of the $100 deal and now they adjusted their rate for me.

Because prices tend to be grandfathered in perpetuity, that's a nice chunk of change to be saving indefinitely each month.

All yall complaining about 2gigs of data. That's all I use each month so I should definitely consider this. Everywhere I go has wifi so I figure why not.
