Hate! Hate! Hate! Stealth trolls enter here.

dfyb is one of the most annoying posters on GAF. He brings his bias with him into threads no one would think to make biased comments in. I'd put him on ignore, but he does sometimes say insightful things that I don't want to miss.

Edit: beaten.

I'll often respect the opinion of someone who refuses to play games on their PC less than someone who does. It's amazing how many here that claim to love a variety of games are proudly ignorant of such a gigantic library of excellent titles. The reverse is also true, but that's not something you see on GAF.

Also, I really hate people who underrate Halo. Do they seriously believe that Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament and Wolfenstein are better games than Halo? Like seriously? It's unfathomable.

I think it is an irrational counter that some console people make in response to the common PC chant, "I will get the real version of such and such game when it comes to PC." Both are annoying.

Halo's not a good game. I sort of lump it in with Metroid Prime as "overrated console FPS," but at least Halo has good multiplayer and controls. I find it laughable that people take the story of the game seriously too... though I do admit, I have been impressed by trailers for Halo 3 so far.

It's not really stealth if you're promoting it.

Try reading the OP before posting. I guess a better thread title would be, "Why are you a stealth troll? Explain your biases."

I like where this is going. This thread would improve vastly if everyone just posted their Ignore lists.
That would be fun.

I should say, my ignore list doubled after that "1UP dropping Warhawk's score based on price" thread.

Hey, i love wolves, i`m going to throw myself in the middle of them with steaks attached!
It`s not like anyone trusts me at the best of times, so i might as well lie on the tracks!

Sony get the worst from me because they consistantly seem to use elements of deception to paint a better picture of their situation/machine. The E3 2005 display sealed the cap on exactly why they annoy me - a display of smoke and mirrors unsurpassed which i actually feel insulted by as an older gamer. Add in the spin on where they were with dev kits, the launch farce, etc. and yes, sony annoy me - but again, it`s just annoy, but what does get me is their fanboys : All lined up , mouths open, swallowing the lot - unable to think for themselves, making excuses or justifications for what Sony pull, terminally unable take a step back and to appraise each situation ... on anything! Bluray, cell, design, interface - no matter what it is, Sony must be first place and have made absolutely the right decission on absolutely everything from games to h/w, from dash to disk storage, from dl content price to delays. All we get is regurgitated PR in different words as to why developers are unable to make games for DVD, how Cell is fantastic for AI, how next gen isn`t possible without Bluray....

Sony fanboys are unable to admit to any issues that exists, somehow believing that this makes them a better supporter of sony when this simply does not. This doesn`t make you a fan, it makes you a gullible idiot - and even worse - one who doesn`t care about the company getting better.

Sony make great h/w , amazing games, and have a certain style about thier products that is absent from the other two systems - they do however talk a load of old balls, make mistakes and will, if need be, decieve you a bit. All i`m asking is people just take a step back and see that they aren`t perfect in everything they do and that the fans start giving them more trouble when they aren`t serving them correctly.

Nintendo and MS fans also do this - don`t get me wrong - but in truth, SFB`s draw my ire simply by volume : there are more Sonyfanboys and they are also the loudest and most vocal fans of the GAF community.

Oh, just to clarify - i don`t hate/have it in for any Sony fanboy. Wollan, SSX, Kaching, Kittonwy, etc... this is all just sparring and banter, i`d happily meet up with any of the Sony leaning guys, and i`m absolutely sure we`d have a good laugh. In truth, i can switch my annoyance on and off like a tap, and as i say - i`d stand by any review of any sony game i`ve done as an unbaised review. But once we start talking smack, that`ll go out of the window! ;)

Loathe Nintendo. It's hard for me to pinpoint the exact time when this started, but I'd bargain it was around the first year or two after the Game Cube launched. I'd already jumped ship a few years earlier, though, when I chucked the N64 in favor of Playstation. I did actually like the N64, but it wasn't delivering *enough* of the games I wanted to play. I'm starting to think that I was never a big Nintendo fan in the first place, but simply went where the majority of the games went. Nintendo had the 3rd party scene locked back in the day, as we all know.

Anyway, I suppose that's neither here nor there, but I did actually enjoy the company's first party games in the NES/SNES days.

The shift that sent me over the edge, though, is just as hard to nail down, but once again, I feel it happened during the N64 -> GC transition period. It was subtle, but it was a lot like New Simpsons compared to Old Simpsons or Eisner's Disney to, uh, Disney's Disney. Nintendo was losing its edge and started to become a parody of itself. True creativity was overshadowed by a continual reapplication of iconic characters and themes. The charming elements of their games became saccharine or juvenile (not in the raunchy, immature sense, but the playschool sense). And even worse, their biggest fans settled into a mindset befitting of the company's new attitude and they're willing to express it in the form of bad fanart or socially awkward manchildren posting loveletters in the form of youtube videos.

The Wii is only their most recent and extreme expression. I've barely used the console since I've gotten it and the future lineup appeals to me less and less. It's ironic that my favorite Nintendo series remain the Mario-themed RPGs and SSB, two of the most self-referential ones in the company's repertoire (well, there's Earthbound, too, but we can see how well they treat that one)! But I suppose they both have a knack for expanding the lore, being cheeky and humorous in a way that's beyond Teletubbies slapstick, or cherry-pick elements of Nintendo's past that the company, in a greater sense, has tended to forget about.

The DS is alright. It's got a lot of 3rd party support and said 3rd party games are far and above my favorite on the system.

But it all comes back to the feeling that Nintendo's schtick has long since worn thin with me. I'm looking for a fulfilling core experience with new ideas that don't seem forced upon the user. I want longer, more engaging narratives and complex gameplay and the times when I'm itching for a more arcade-style, short-form gaming experience all I've got to do is log onto XBLA or PSN.

Edit: Also, what the hell has happened to the company's music composers? They haven't produced a truly iconic new tune in years. Instead we get endless remixes or way-too-chipper songs that seem like they were tapped out on a Casio over a preset background track.

I came here to post a similar rant, although the actual foundation is slightly different. I don't loathe Nintendo... I had a lot of respect for them, honestly. Because I know how Nintendo once was in terms of their ability to deliver quality, compelling software, it is increasingly frustrating to see what they have reduced themselves to.

As Nintendo was at one time my favorite videogame company, it has been quite a shock at the levels they've dropped and the NEAR complete disregard of the fanbase that got them there.

Some would say "What do you mean? Mario, Zelda and Metroid aren't enough for you?" Belfast here touched upon the crucial issue that I've been arguing about lately. To quote!

I know Mario is going to keep coming endlessly in a billion different forms. I know Zelda will, and I know Metroid is likely to be there from time to time as well. But all this is is the same lethargic approach to appealing to hardcore gamers that has cast them aside from my appreciation. They have that old rusty list of vault franchises, and every other year or so they'll nod at themselves approvingly as they manufacture yet another factory-sealed product.

Tomorrow they'll probably announce some more completely pointless Wii channels that have nothing to do with games, and then in the next breathe they'll say "we're about having fun with gaming" and reveal to the world the next fifty "audacious" non-games or exercise software. They've shifted so far over, that any and all new ideas MUST come from this category or else it's either delayed, not given the time of day it needs to develop into a polished concept, or simplified to beyond any possible appeal.

I do have some differences with Belfast. My disappointment started when DS released - I loved Gamecube. Initially I thought that system was a good idea, I was a pretty big defender of it even as others dismissed it from a conceptual standpoint, but in the end it turned out to hopelessly miss the mark. And like Belfast said, the few games I do like on the system are inevitably from third parties.

Also I despise their cheapness and almost mocking approach to hardcore gamers, think their philosophy is simply a marketing slogan for the brainwashed masses and delivers on none of the promises.

(As an aside: DCharlie is factually incorrect about their being more Sony fanboys at GAF, and that they are more vocal. Everything else is on point though!)

Hmm, now it makes more sense.

Sony ticks me off a lot. They released a blu-ray system years before blu-ray reached a mass-market price point. At least with the PS2, dvd had been around for awhile.

Hardcore Sony fans who act like Sony created Metal Gear and Final Fantasy instead of Konami and Square are probably the worst. I really hate it when people refer to non Sony game series as "Playstation franchises." Castlevania/Metal Gear/Final Fantasy and a bunch of others were "Nintendo franchises" before the 32/64 bit generation by that logic.

The only "Playstation franchises" are the ones made by Sony or a 2nd party, like Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter, etc.

Interesting when you consider Kojima refers to MG as a PS series.

Hey at least DC doesn't go around creating threads to stir shit up like you do. You is low

... even i wouldn't agree with this statement! I just don't start the thread, but i'm certainly guilty of the odd shitstir or twenty! ;)

B grade or B- grade? Because a B is insulting, but a B-, that's just cold.

i retracted the edit after you added in "now it makes sense" as it wasn`t clear whether you were serious or not. On your previous posting, i assumed it was a dig, but i thought i'd see what you came back with... i should have went with C- for the extra GAF reference bonus point.
