Have you ever bought a console just for ONE game?

I bought a Vita for Gravity Rush. I was disappointed. I also bought a 360 for Halo Reach. I was disappointed once again.

Close enough.

I bought a DS in October of 2007, my first and only handheld, primarily because I had an itch to play a 2D Mario game after last playing one on NES (Mario Bros. 1 and 2). So I got the DS and NSMB. Over the next couple of months, I added Ultimate Mortal Kombat and Mario Kart, and those are the only additional games I have ever bought and played on that system. In reality, the DS is a 2 game system for me (didn't play Mortal Kombat again after a week).

Bought a PS3 for MGS4.

I fucking LOVED MGS4, and have barely touched my Xbox ever since, so it was a pretty great purchase in the end.

Despite getting awesome mileage out of things like Sonic Generations and Bayonetta, I basically bought my 360 ONLY for Viva Pinata and what was at the time "Banjo-Threeie."

It was well worth it, too. But with Rare dead in the water I have no interest in every owning a Microsoft system again. Especially since I'm getting everything I enjoyed out of the 360 with the Wii U, anyway. (My Sonic fix with Sonic Lost World, my Bayonetta fix with Bayonetta 2, and my cartoon animal Rare fix with Tropical Freeze.)

SNES for Super Mario World
Mega Drive for Sonic 1
Gameboy for Super Mario Land
Game Gear for Sonic
PS2 for Devil May Cry
N64 for Goldeneye
GameCube for REMake
Xbox360 for Bayonetta
WiiU for ZombieU
DS for Mario Kart
Wii for Super Mario Galaxy

No regrets, whatsoever.

3DS for Fire Emblem, the game was alright though, certainly overrated. i was mosltly disappointed by things unrelated to the actual core game, it never had a character like lyn, the aesthetics were teen anime style, things like that. i think i might sell the 3ds, i have not used it since april

Dreamcast - Ready 2 Rumble Boxing. Had no interest in half the other games.
PS2 - Tekken Tag Tourney
PSP - Final Fantasy Crisis Core

I bought the original xbox just for Morrowind.

I had tried to play it on my pc, but I had a really shitty pc back then. I think at that time I was still using a Pentium 4 rig with about 128mb ram and a TNT 2 64 (or 32mb?) video card.

I no longer have the xbox. I wish I kept it because I had tons of fun with it. It would be kind of nice to look at it in the corner and think "ah, you were so good to me buddy!"

Sega Saturn for Virtua Fighter 2. It was a free holiday offer that also came with Daytona USA and I think something else but VF2 was what I was really interested in...

Bad mistake in the long run.

ps2 for GTA SA. 110% worth it, best game I have ever played. easily over 1000 hours ( took me over a year to beat it, simple did so many random stuff while free roaming)

XBOX 360 for L4D2 ( before I even thought about PC gaming)

Good buy, had a lot of fun and put many hours into ( then got the PC version, loved it even more with all the mods)

IN the future, I may get the Wii U just for X, that looks too good ( from the gifs, anyway)

No, I don't think that a console should be an impulse buy, and buying a console for the sake of one game is pretty much an impulse buy.

However, I know first hand many Xbox gamers who have got Xbox 360 for the sole purpose of playing Halo, and are getting an Xbox One for Halo as well despite admitting ps4 as the console they really want

If halo ever comes the ps, ms are done in gaming

GBC/GBA/DS/3DS for Pokemon.

Granted, i did get a lot more games but that was the game i intentionally bought the systems for. I also bought a 360 for Mass Effect and once it and ME2 were announced for PC i sold the 360 because i wasn't going to keep the system 1 game. Didn't really offer anything else IMO.

I almost pre-ordered an xbox one just for Titanfall until i was informed it was releasing on PC.

I bought my 3DS for Megaman Legends 3.

How could I forget.

Fuck.

No joke, on the launch of the Prototype I was going to buy a $50 nintendo gift card and go to every display kiosk I could find and buy+install the demo in the store units to help the sales numbers in anyway I could.

PS3, Dark Souls.
Although to be fair, yes, I recognize that Dark Souls is on 360, but I knew Demon's was on PS3 only, and it wasn't me buying it, it was me trading my 360 for it. And nothing else.

To this day the only time that system comes on is for Dark/Demon's Souls.

Actually, I'm not sure I've ever done anything else.

I got a NES for Turtles
I got a SNES for Mario Kart.
I got a Saturn for Virtua Fighter 2.
I got a Dreamcast for Sonic Adventure. (And to a degree Sega in general, to be fair)
I got a Playstation 2 for Virtua Fighter 4.
I got an Xbox for Jet Set Radio Future.
I got a Gamecube for Metroid Prime.
I got a GBA for Castlevania: Circle of The Moon.
I got a PSP for Lumines.
I got an Xbox 360 for Project Gotham Racing 3.
I got a Playstation Vita for Lumines: Electronic Symphony.
Aaaand I got a Wii U for Sonic: Lost World. Only, I got it way in advance, because this autumn is gonna be brutal as it is.

The exceptions to this rule are:
PS3 - no clue why I got that. It was out?
Nintendo DS - Two screens! No idea.
Nintendo Wii - Waggle! No, seriously; waggle.
Nintendo 3DS - "It's not like I won't want one. At some point."

Sega Saturn for Virtua Fighter 2. It was a free holiday offer that also came with Daytona USA and I think something else but VF2 was what I was really interested in...

Bad mistake in the long run.

This post makes me sad. The Saturn was one of my favorite systems of all time. You likely got Virtua Cop in that deal too - also a fantastic game!

I decided I was going to buy a Wii U for Bayonetta 2. I'm happy to have found a few other titles I'm interested in as well, so it's all good.

I guess it depends on how much time you put into the game. Over the years, I've found that I've really just gravitated to the same two or three games per console that I've owned. I buy more games, but rarely finish them as I want to keep playing those same games over and over again. The only platform where I tend to branch out is on PC.

I would have saved a ton of money if I had just stuck to those two or three games per console. They took up probably close to 80% of my time on each console.

Nintendo: Final Fantasy
Genesis: NHLPA 93, and ROTK III
N64: Goldeneye
PS2: GTA series
Xbox: Morrowind, more GTA
PS3: GTAIV

DS for the Dragon Quest remakes.
PS1 for Final Fantasy 7.
PS2 for Dragon Quest 8.
Wii for Dragon Quest X. Obviously this was before the MMO reveal. But I don't regret it because Wii has plenty of awesome games.

Several times.

Let's see, of the consoles I personally bought:

PS1 - Parappa the Rapper, C:SOTN
SS - Street Fighter vs. X-Men (import) w/ the 4 MG RAM cart
N64- Super Mario 64
DC - Soul Calibur
PS2 - The Bouncer
GCN - Eternal Darkness, Rogue Leader 2
XBOX - Halo: Combat Evolved
XBOX 360 - Call Of Duty 2
Wii - Twilight Princess
PS3 - GOW (also waited get it until the fully BC 60s were going away)

I'm thinking about buying a Wii U if I can purchase it and Wonderful 101 for $100.

What fantasy land do you live in that buying a system that sells at a LOSS for $300 and a new game for a total of $100 sounds reasonable to you? That's 1/3 of the price of the system alone.

I bought and sold a PS3 3 (three) times. The first time because of U2, the second time because of U3, and now because of TLoU.

Also got a X360 because of Alan Wake, and got rid of it the second day after I had beat that game for the first time.

Gamecube = Super Smash Bros Melee
Wii = Super Smash Bros Brawl
NDS = Pokemon Diamond
PSP = Darkstalkers Chronicle Chaos Tower

Thankfully the systems had a lot of other games after their release lol.
