Have you ever played a PERFECT game?

To me I would consider a perfect game to be a game that did exactly what it set out to do, not one thing needs to be changed or added to achieve that goal. The short list:

1. Spelunky
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Heroes of Might and Magic 2
4. Unreal Tournament
5. Mark of the Ninja

Zelda: A Link Between Worlds seems pretty perfect to me right now.

Also my first Zelda game that I'm really playing through

Other "perfect" games:

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition
Shovel Knight
Portal 1

I can't pick a game for some reason. If a game is perfect then theoretically a sequel, remake or an enhanced port shouldn't be able to make it better. My "perfect" games had better sequels but I would pick them for their novelty.

Sure did.

Yup, closest for me.Not perfect,as there ain't one out there

I always wonder how threads get bumped 2 years later. Do people search "perfect game" and then scroll to the last page and click a thread?

Honestly I cant think of any game I love that doesn't have something I consider a flaw.

Paper Mario is GOAT though and I can't believe I still haven't played TTYD. Just bought a gamecube to rectify that

It depends on the game and what it's trying to accomplish.

I would say that Journey is the closest thing to a perfect game that I've played. I can't imagine Thatgamecompany doing a better job of fulfilling their vision than what they actually did.

Vanquish is the closest within my metric.

It is only held back by 30fps (Steam version should take care of this) and slow walking sections (which I would love to be removed in the Steam version but I don't see that happening).

Shadow of the Colossus is pretty damn close if you ask me. Not my #1 overall game, but it accomplishes what it set out to do better than any other game I've played, imo.

Edit... Good suggestion above, The Witness does well by this metric, too.

Tetris is the game closest to fundamental perfection I would say. But as a game itself, there are so many variations that appeal to people like the Grandmaster Series and DS, that I can't exactly call any one version of the game perfect.

Journey would be second for similar reasons.

Chrono Trigger and Super Metroid to me. Can't say anything is wrong with them.

They're not actually the best games I've ever played (although being pretty high on my list), but they're basically perfect to me.
