Have you ever stopped supporting a developer from some action they did?

Not really. Besides just not being interested in some publisher's games I wouldn't go as far as "blacklist" a whole studio or publisher. When they do disgusting shit I usually just don't buy the game that includes it. I just wanna play games I like.

What a well-thought and insightful response.

"abandoning" is stupid. you could make the argument that they "abandoned" their fanbase when code Veronica was dreamcast exclusive momentarily. you could make a case they "abandoned" their fanbase when the Saturn resident evil never made a sequel.

seems like you're the one with the lack of reasoning.

I stopped buying Capcom games for a year after the Street Figter X Tekken DLC and Gems bullshit. Missed out on Dragon's Dogma, and a couple other games I really wanted to play.

I initially thought the answer was no, but then I remembered the walking dead season 1. The save bug on pc was such a messed up thing, and they absolutely refused to talk about it or fix it even when the community figured out exactly what was wrong and was able to figure out workarounds.

It might have made it even worse that during that time people couldn't stop professing their love for telltale. they were winning studio of the year and game of the year awards left and right while completely screwing over their pc customers and no one seemed to care.

And before the walking dead I owned most of the telltale games - all the sam and max, puzzle agent, w&g, etc.

Can't say that I have. If I want to play a game I'm going to play it no matter who makes it. I would have to find out that buying their games somehow contributes to killing innocent people or something to stop me.

I feel like a broken record lately, but Gearbox. Borderlands was a lucky fluke. The rest of their games are garbage save Brothers in Arms. That studio is showing it's true colors in these last few years.

Imo Brothers in Arms is their only decent IP. I never got into borderlands like other people. I remember reading an article (actual scan of the article from 2007) for borderlands in game informer about two years prior to release and it looked more like rage or something with a supposedly randomly generating world/dungeons etc. Coming from that article and the promise it had left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Didn't buy Dark Souls 2 after the bait and switch. Kind of glad now it's apparently B-team and the worst of the three. I refuse to support a company that pulls shit like that even if its a game I was really hyped for.

Ubisoft after Assassin's Creed 3. The ending was so bad it gave me cancer and it also showed me what will happen with any ongoing storyline I may come to enjoy in their games. Stretched out over yearly releases, then shit on to make more yearly releases.

So I'm done with them.

Momentarily is hardly the same as indefinitely. You can clearly see from the RE4 sales figures, compared to those of REmake, where the most of the fanbase resided. I can certainly understand the old Final Fantasy fans feeling similarly back in the day, and the same goes for, say, Gears of War, if it had jumped ship at some point. And that's why I stopped supporting Capcom.

I haven't purchased an Activision product in over 7 years because of Bobby Kotick's actions and attitude. His quote of "I'd rather pay my lawyers than my employees" is absolutely despicable.

Capcom. Street Fighter IV was the beginning, yet it was forgivable, what pissed me off was MVC3,Lost Planet 3, and some other shit I forgot. Nostalgia remakes and whatnot.

I am buying Ultra Street Fighter IV on Steam tho.

UbiSoft at the moment. I think they treated Wii U owners appallingly with the Rayman Legends delay, not to mention their other B.S. "We have a game completed but we're not releasing it until Wii U has better sales", refusing to comment on Wii U Watch Dogs for so long, etc, etc.

Having said that, I will stop my "boycott" and buy Watch Dogs for Wii U if it releases, Day One, but I have little faith in this company so I'd be stunned if it actually happened.

I'd also say EA for similar reasons, but they never made many games that appealed to me in the first place.

The Wii U has received so much negative press because of these two companies.

I used to be a huge Insomniac fan, but then R2 happened. The game being a pile of shit wasn't the main issue, shortly before release many fans were calling out the daft design decisions in response we got a arrogant podcast that belittled those concerns and was just a circle jerk session. That was that.

It usually goes the other way for me. I'll go out of my way to support someone I respect doing creative work, even if their work is merely decent. It's sort of a tiebreaker for me in that respect.

I'd ignore a fantastic game only if the key people involved were Orson Scott Card grade assholes (I tried to find a more appropriate word, but failed — I'd be open to alternative suggestions.)

If everyone did the same then all those employees would be out of a job. But I applaud your caring attitude.

Do they count as a developer still? I know that Activision was originally a developer. But now isn't it technically a producer? Because this was kind of my first thought too, but I didn't post it since I don't think it's technically considered an active developer anymore.

Capcom after Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 being barebones for the Ultimate version and then the SFxT mess of a launch. Its sad to because I wanted to play as Elana so bad and I see SFxT for less than $15 and still won't buy it. I bough Asura's Wrath but otherwise nothing. And I probably won't get Ultra either unless its free eventually on PSN like arcade edition.
SFxT i can understand, but MvCU being undercooked was notoriously known to be because of Marvel's meddling.

No not really. I won't go out of my way to not support a developer/publisher. I'll be wary if it's one that has been on my radar for doing shit I don't approve of but I judge games by themselves if it looks good. Me not buying a good game because it's made by certain people is ridiculous I'm not going to deprive myself of a good game because I think I'm making a statement and/or making a difference in the industry.

I stopped buying Madden when they got the exclusive NFL license. This year will be the first time I buy Madden since that happened.

Reasons are, I had a chance to play 2015 and it's a great game of football. Also, I had a chance to play Madden 25 with the EA Access and it was pretty good too.

I don't know man, you missed out on arguably the best resident evil in its classic form because of "abandoning the fanbase". It's not like resident evil was an exclusive franchise for a long time. You should play REmake and see what you are losing because of this reason you gave.

Not really. If the game is good, I'll check it out. Sometimes a dev or a PR person might say something really stupid but it's not enough to piss me off in quitting on them. If they stole money or actively fucked their customers then I would definitely give up on them.

I'm thinking of others, but really it's just because they stopped making good games. Like Insomniac Games. Their attitude after R2 was pretty shitty, and I haven't bought one of their games since, but it's really because they haven't made a good game since crack in time anyway.

I don't buy most games day 1 at all anymore. They all either come out with a "complete edition" a year later, or have stupid passes, day one DLC and preorder bonuses, and bugs and glitches they use actual buyers to find and tell them about instead of proper QA.

I will never buy an Ubisoft game on PC from the terrible performance and port jobs. Only ones I have were gifted to me. Lost faith in devs that were enveloped by EA like Bioware. I wouldn't trust capcom to make a 50 cent purchase not feel like I was ripped off. Ingeneral, I will wait 1-2 years before picking up anything at half price so they have time to release the "gotcha editions" and fix their broken elements.

Pretty much where I am with Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture right about now if soulless, uninspired trash like Let It Die will be all they're good for in the foreseeable future.

Not an entire company, but a brand. That brand being the Xbox. After my 360 RROD'd with only moderate use. Coupled with this being a widespread documented problem, I refuse to give them any more of my money.

I can't believe you're serious. If I cared more I'd get a "Capcom just shot themselves in the foot" copypasta together for this. There's a reason the Bayonetta 2 Wall of Shame exists. Because this sort of thing is laughable.

On topic, I don't want to support Gearbox because of reasons already posted. Luckily that's really easy to do. I had similar feelings towards Microsoft after their bungling of the Xbox One online DRM stuff, but I'm ok with where they're at now. I'm not ready to buy an XBO yet, but when there are enough exclusives I'm interested in, I'll go ahead.

Buying a system for a single game isn't really a good idea, and I don't like being pushed to buy one because of 3rd party moneyhat deals. Playing it now via a PC emulator just wouldn't be the same as experiencing it when it was released.

Yes. Never bought and never will buy anything from Phil Fish, stopped buying EA games after DA:2 and ME3, stopped buying Ubisoft games after the DRM shit they pulled, stopped buying from Activision after MW2.

(Exception: high % sales or used, and the only games so far were MW for the Vita - in a sale - because I needed a racing game and Shadow Wars for the 3DS because it was like 75% off)

I've never stopped supporting a developer, but for publishers with a habit of infesting their games with endless DLC, I now have a habit of not buying on release and getting the discounted GOTY edition that contains everything later on.

I don't have a problem with things like extra campaigns, maps etc, but it was Bioware partitioning off a major character in Mass Effect 3 that was the last straw for me.

With Fez, I didn't buy it as it just didn't interest me, not because Phil Fish said some dickish things.

The game is still amazing and extremely beautiful, if you are a fan of the series, you should really give it a shot =)

Am I the only one that remembers the "Disk Read Error" for PS2? No one talks about how wide spread that was. I think it was a long the lines of the RROD. I had 3 PS2's because of this problem. All you have to do is type in "PS2 disk" and it will finish your statement for you.

I also had a PS3 that YLOD. I never once wanted to stop supporting Sony.

It's not hard for me to understand why someone wants to stop supporting a company they feel makes faulty products. That RROD was terrible. I had my system do that to me too.

It takes a lot to make my permanent ban list. No developer gets the ban hammer from me for creative differences. Those differences may prevent me from purchasing individual products, but I evaluate each game individually thereafter. Publisher business practices have turned me off though to the point where it would take a universal community ringing endorsement to get my money.

I was turned off by the BF4 PC experience on launch. I was going to pass on the next one, but the delay put it back on the radar. Maxis is in the doghouse until proven otherwise. Other than that, currently, unless Mel Gibson gets into the video game biz, I'll keep viewing each title on its individual merit.

Maybe so here. I wasn't on GAF then. All I know is that when I loaded it up to play online with my homie and saw health bars going up and down instead of a match I was done then. That was ridiculous. I understood that in the SF4 to SSF4 transition, but did they really think I wouldn't notice them pulling the same crap. Same with Ultimate not being an online upgrade. Whatever capcom.

Last BioWare game I bought was Mass Effect 2. Borrowed Dragon Age 2 from a friend and played Mass Effect 3 via PlayStation Plus. I am undecided on if I should Get DA: Inquisition.

Not to the extent of an outright blanket boycott, but I have limited my purchases and actively told myself "no" when something would have normally been an impulse buy.

EA.
