Have you ever stopped supporting a developer from some action they did?

Pretty much where I am with Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture right about now if soulless, uninspired trash like Let It Die will be all they're good for in the foreseeable future.
As a Suda51 fan since No More Heroes I can't begin to describe my joy to utter disappointment from Lily Bergamo to Let It Die. That hurt me hard man.

Alot of those I disdain now also make games too distasteful for me, too low quality, or I can get better elsewhere from more ethical businesses. Saves me alot of money and buyer's remorse.

I stop supporting any developer who gets caught up in a mess of anti-consumer policies, day 1 DLC, awful PC ports, and stuff like that.

Phil Fish is one guy with some strong opinions, sometimes leading him to say something stupid. The outrage surrounding him is ridiculous and he worked on one of the best games of 2012. He deserves any money he gets.

That outrage surrounding him got him mad bank. It fit right along with his other PR efforts.

The shit Bethesda pulled regarding PS3 Skyrim is unforgivable to me. They basically sold plastic coasters to unsuspecting PS3 owners.

Unless those actions were something like "collectively slaughtered a bus full of children," or "quit making products I felt were worth my money," no.

Never has, never will. If game is fun to play or developer/publisher makes 1 mistake doesn't mean that everything they make can be put in the same basket. There are companies I like better than others, but I will always look at everything on a case by case basis, and if it interests me then I'll give it a go, simple as that.

I still haven't bought Borderlands 2 because I don't want to give money to Pitchford/Gearbox. It probably helped that I wasn't crazy about the original but still, I would have definitely grabbed it on sale by now if it wasn't for all the shady shit surrounding gearbox.

I also haven't bought a single EA game since Mass Effect 3 (excluding that humble bundle). A part of me doesn't want to support them but really, this has more to do with them not making anything that looks worth my time. I have zero interest in Inquisition after Dragon Age 2 and, although I didn't hate ME3, I feel like I'm done with the series so the next one really has an uphill battle if it's going to win me back.

I am there day one for Mirror's Edge, though.

I do not purchase Ubisoft games anymore after all the stuff they've pulled lately.

Other than them, its a game-by-game basis.

Well, if I would have done that, I should have gaming all together I guess. I mean, every developer does something in a while you aren't happy with...

This is all great stuff. I also agree on Phil Fish. He's clearly extremely talented, and just because you mighty not like his social behavior (often in response to internet hate) doesn't speak any less of him as a brilliant creator.

Most of mankind's greatest minds were probably insufferable socially. That doesn't mean their contributions weren't worthwhile or getting excited about.

I actually feel bad for gamers holding petty grudges against these companies and potentially missing out on good games.

Sometimes it helps to forgive and forget.

IMO it's dumb to just completely ignore a developer just because they've done stupid stuff in the past. You have to look at each case individually.

Gearbox lost me when the last level cap increase didn't come with the season pass. Done with the franchise at a minimum.

Edit: Borderlands 2 for context.

Ubisoft since Assassin's Creed 2. Because of DRM and Uplay mostly. If and when Beyond Good & Evil 2 comes out I'll probably buy it. The Rayman games are tempting, also.

EA since Mass Effect 2. I am grabbing everything that's On the House, though. It's free!

Unless they did something extremely insidious like supporting war crimes or something, I don't think any action by a studio would cause me to outright boycott their games.

Not really I'm not into video game politics. I usually spot a game I may like, wait for reviews, demos or whatever, and then I buy it.

I couldn't care less about DRM, or policies or whatever, if said videogame worth my money I don't care.

I stopped buying EA games for a while when Mass Effect 3 came out.

I was really looking forward to it but they pulled so much shit with that game that I just didn't feel like supporting them (I got the game anyway, but like 2 weeks later and used).

On one side I hated how they lied so much about the game before release. With the whole "It won't be like choosing ending A,B or C" (when it fact it was) and all their promises of the console versions being indistinguishable (Ps3 version runs closer to 20fps than 30 most of the time).

But it was mostly because it had the most boring cast of characters in the franchise and the one new crew member who looked interesting was a damn day 1 DLC.

Ubisoft, because of their consistently crappy PC ports. Watch_Dogs was their final offense.

Todd howard from bethesda , after the lies they told to ps3 gamers about skyrim i will never believe a word these guys say, never again i waill buy a bethesda game day one and will probably wait and grab a used copie and wait until its cheap as fuck.

Bioware after Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3.

As a long term fan I felt both games were a kick in the nuts. Pretty sure I am not gonna buy any more future games from them.
Maybe once they hit $5 and I can get them pre-owned.

No, I buy games based on if they fill the need I want them to. If a company, like EA, does something I dont like I make sure I dont buy the product, hence I dont like it/value it enough to purchase it. I do make sure to buy stuff I do like from them that I do find value in. I think the idea of not supporting a developer because they did something you dont like in an unrelated product just further empowers them into doing dumb things. EA doesnt get away with a lot of the shit it pulls, so I dont feel a need to not do any business with them, since they do make a few games I enjoy on a regular basis, and Bioware is a part of them now.

I haven't bought an Atlus game since they went ahead and region locked Persona 4: Arena on PS3. I don't care much about the game, since I don't play fighters, but as a European I can't support companies that region lock their products. I remember how it used to be back when consoles were region locked and Europeans missed out on so many great games.

The same issue is also holding me back from buying Nintendo products. I'd probably not be interested in Wii U in any case, but the region lock is one of the factors stopping me from getting a 3DS.

I stopped buying EA, Activision and Ubisoft games.

I just dont like where they are taking gaming, plus theres all sorts of small stuff they have done in recent years that just totally grinds my gears.

I did however buy Trials Fusion because I use to love Red Lynx. But that was a mistake.. that game has Ubi stench all over it compared to the previous games :/

I know it's petty and makes no difference, but I'd feel dirty supporting King after seeing the various stuff they pulled against other mobile devs.

Other than that, I usually don't care. I'm not going to pretend I'm boycotting EA because I don't like them as a company, I just don't buy EA games because in general, they don't interest me. I've seen a lot of "I'm boycotting EA…except for this game I want". That's not a boycott, that's pretending to make a stand to look edgy.

Gearbox because colonial marines

Trying to gradually stop buying EA games
Dragon age might be the last one if there are too many micro transactions / "social" features

Ubisoft.

not because of anything in particular, but because their games are garbage, homogenized and just straight up boring.

Them hiding E3 stuff in the code for WatchDogs, women r 2 hard stance and all that other good stuff is just icing on the cake. They also handled Trials terribly as well.

Gearbox
shady as hell. from the whole Codehunters thing to Aliens CM.

Whoa damn! Gearbox, I never knew. :(

Atlus games:
Because of their attitude towards Europe. Until that changes I don't feel the need to buy their games.

EA:
Cannot remember the last games I bought from them. They've been the staple for everything wrong with gaming with the likes of DLC, online passes, Season Passes, Microtransactions and so much more consumer stupidity. Again, voted worst company in 2 years in a row and still have a stage presence at E3.

Ubisoft:
The most overhyped and fraudulent company :D. By that I mean, the only company that makes misleading trailers and promises, has DLC out the arse and have still yet to produce anything good. Only recently did they make Child of Light and Raymen Origins but that's it. Their games are some of the most bland, uninspired, generic, run-of-the-mill games and yet they have an E3 stage presence.

Companies I still buy from but aren't happy with their changes:
Nintendo:
Why are you so bad at online multiplayer/online social gaming? Why is the 3DS and Wii U region locked? Why did you release the Wii U?

Epic games:
The DLC insult fest made me completely lose respect for them.

Capcom:
I love their games and still think they products that EA and Ubisoft could only hope to achieve but the DLC is insulting to the point it's an obvious scam. Pre-order bonuses, disc-locked content, now doing Free 2 Play, DLC etc etc.

Sony:
It's sad how people praise this company for doing nothing and yet, they've still screwed us over leading and after the PS4s launch. I'd put the change of Suda51's Lily Bergamo cancellation due to Sony. They've done this with Capcom and Deep Down being F2P. I don't think this is the developers fault but the games being PS4 exclusive and Ssony screwing them over. Are people still blind to Sonys obvious problems?

Edit: I don't boycott. I just have certain views on companies. Looking forward to Criterons new game and Mirrors Edge from EA. But it wouldn't surprise me if Criterons new game ends up being DLC'd or cancelled and Mirrors Edge not coming out until 4 years time.

Maybe it doesn't count, but I stopped buying TellTale games at release because of how ridiculously long it takes to actually get a complete game out of them (at a complete cost).
I recognize the benefits to buying early for their games, but they are few, and ultimately the cost comes down so drastically by the time the final episode(s) are released, I'm *always* left wondering: why the fuck did I buy into this so early?

I just feel like they take all the money from one product and invest it into another -- at the same time I'm waiting for the next episode to, say, The Wolf Among Us, they're announcing like 2 completely new games. We still never really got a good explanation for why the second (or was it the third?) episode of TWAU took like 6 months or something.

So, yeah, from now on I will only purchase their games once all episodes are out, or -- at the very least -- I will wait until all episodes are out for one game before buying the next. For story-centric games, the wait is simple too long to endure.

Sort of.

I won't touch Ubisoft games on PC because of Uplay.

Overall I try not to support anything I think is poor behaviour (so I might skip a specific title like Sim City) but I also always re-evaluate based on curren behaviour too. EA does seem to go out of their way to make it hard to forgive though!

I boycotted Nintendo shortly after them unveiling the Wii, as everything im not looking for in a game-console, and went with the ps3/360 generation. I bought and still own all their previous consoles minus the n64.

i bought one last year though, for a few bucks, to still enjoy some games as tatsunuko vs capcom or gradius generations, and sin & punishment. Still hate the wiimote controls deeply.

However, them introducing the Wii-u made me happy again and own one for several months now.

Not fully, but I stopped buying full priced games from devs who think that they can charge 2-3 times more on PC for exactly the same game they sell on mobile. For such devs I just wait for bundle or ultra cheap sale.

I stopped playing Starbound and decided to never buy anything published by Chucklefish after being banned from their forum for criticism the excessive censorship. That was months ago, and they still haven't updated Starbound.
