• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Have you ever stopped supporting a developer from some action they did?

Ubisoft, their PC ports really seem to suck. Not to say I might not pick their games up, but only if they're a fraction of their normal MSRP.
DICE tbh sort of redeems themselves, seems they are making good changes to BF4, and their DLC premium thing, yeah it costs more money, but it's on sale often, and there is a buttload of content in terms of maps/levels/weapons/equipment.

On the other hand I can't throw enough money into Planetside 2, seriously best devs in terms of community relations I can think of. Love them <3

Being a PC-only player has made it even easier to skip Ubisoft and EA's games than it already was. I'd rather not fragment my gaming experience with even more DRM services.

Never stopped me from buying a game I wanted to play, but if a dev gets under my skin then I put that game on the back burner and wait for it to hit the bargain bin.

They fucked up so badly. So fucking badly. They couldn't even bothered to apologize though.

I remember one quote in particular that a Bethesda employee said on the Bethsoft forums:

"If you are continuing to experience issues I'd recommend contacting Sony support"

Really? Why should I contact Sony over an issue I'm having with YOUR game and no others? The game was playable for a short while but once your save file reached 11MB it was all over.

Not a developer, but a console manufacturer, Microsoft.

The RRoD fiasco, Microsoft executives' and PR people's flippant attitude towards it at the beginning, and just thinking how the company could put out such a failure-prone system turned our family off the brand. It didn't help that Microsoft and the Xbox brand went from tons of variety to mostly shooters and racers, it seemed.

Well I was similar to this regard due to Microsoft's arrogance leading up to E3 2013 and many a quote from Don Mattrick in how the Xbox One DRM and Kinect always being required thing was handled before they ultimately reversed both decisions. Then there was issue of them constantly trying to downplay the fact of the power difference between the XB1 and the PS4, and twist it in a fashion as because of the "cloud" as many article from both Polygon and Eurogamer / Digital Foundry would imply, the PR made it sound like the XB1 was technically superior with some kind of unlimited source of untapped power, despite the physical hardware difference in terms of GPU power.

Of all things in regards to the video game industry as a paying customer who treats these companies is nothing more as a means of entertainment, so I am able to tolerate a lot of shit, but I will not tolerate being fucking lied to and treated like an uneducated moron. The fact they couldn't even sincerely apologize when after the fan backlash and realized they knew the things they were going to do would not work they had the fucking gall to say "I'm sorry you don't understand our grand vision we have planned for you" as if they were in the right.

There are several games on the Xbox One, I probably would have enjoyed, notably Forza 5, Horizon 2, Killer Instinct, and Sunset Overdrive, and the eventual Phantom Dust remake, but I think I can give up 5 exclusives and one Microsoft console for a whole generation after that fiasco.

I'm not writing off Microsoft forever, per say, just the Xbox One, so hopefully Microsoft has a different attitude with their next console.

I work on a case by case basis, I'll boycott / buy used a single game because of an issue but if their next game doesn't have the same issues I'll happily buy it.

PC-only gamer who's not playing Ubisoft games seems like a very sad combo. I couldn't do it. I would honestly rather give up Valve's games than Ubisoft ones.

Stopped buying Silent Hill once it left Japanese hands and stopped buying Dead or Alive once they started abusing DLC

Konami.

It'd be one thing if I was just a bit salty about how they've handled their legacy IPs that don't have "Metal Gear" in the title. But their systematic absorption and then complete destruction of Hudson was something that really pissed me off. They just killed off the likes of perfectly good mid-tier franchises like Bomberman for no good reason.

So instead of just loathing one company, they had to take another one I loved away from me.

Blizzard and World of Warcraft. I got really tired of the very, very, very, very slow updates and lack of end game content, and even then the end game stuff to do was meh at best. This was around Cataclysm. I haven't looked back, or have any interest in the next expansion.

Ubisoft because of the Unity female thing.
Just the last straw in their line of bullshit treatment of female characters.

However, if they learn from this for their next AC game, I'll consider buying it.

Madden after exclusive rights to NFL license.

It's unfair and crushed competition and innovation.

I haven't bought one since. And the only way I'd buy one now is if it included another NFL Sunday Ticket package to substantially save me money.

Oh, yeah.

Marvel versus games without Ken. Really, Capcom? Screw that. Won't buy em.

Oh, Square-Enix, a long time ago. I'm not even sure what fuck-up # it was. I was the biggest fanboy growing up, and somewhere along the lines I said "Y'know what? Fuck this company."

Waiting on FFXV to make my final decision on the company.

this
how the mighty have fallen

Gearbox - Borderlands is boring, and DNF and A:CM are super shit.

Dice - BF3 was not very good, and I still won't buy BF4, even if "they fixed it.", which I'm pretty sure they haven't yet. Maybe just BF in general, as I won't be getting Hardline.

Probably 343i if they screw up Halo 5. At least I'll have the MCC.

As much as I'd like to say EA, their policies are not entirely the case on why I haven't purchased anything from them in over a decade. EA has just stopped making games or the type of games I enjoy. However, I will never purchase anything they have to offer when they eventually do because of their policies.

Lately I have been losing my patience with Ubisoft and all their stupid comments and bug ridden, mediocre games. Dunno how this will turn out quite yet.

I had no interest in what Gearbox made but since Colonial Marines, I will never look to spend a dime on any of their games. And looking at their track record with games, I'd say Borderlands was a complete fluke.

BioWare after they stopped making good games and, more importantly, have completely abandoned the RPG as a genre. ME2 was a sharp shift away from ME1—I felt they betrayed a lot of what drew people to ME1, but at least it was polished. you could defend the move to the lowest common denominator. I felt it was not as good an RPG as the best RPGs, and not as good a shooter as the best shooters. ME1 had an identity. ME2 did not. so that was disappointing.

but Dragon Age 2 was just absurdly terrible, and for no good reason. and the worst part was—it was so obviously going to be terrible. and then I bought it anyways. christ I felt stupid after that. not making that mistake again.

Konami after not releasing Suikoden 3 in Europe. I did buy Suikoden 4 and 5. I refuse to play any Castlevania or Metal Gear Solid game since.

Insomniac have fallen from grace over Sunset Overdrive. But the book is still open on this.

Haven't gotten an EA game since Sim City.

Haven't purchased a CoD since World at War.

Ubisoft for what they have been doing the past couple years with practically lying to their consumers with bullshit reveals and having the final product never actually look or play as good. However it works out for me because I have almost no interest in their cookie cutter open world games.

Gearbox is on my shit list after Colonial Marines, and I didn't even buy or play the game. They will probably get boycotted after the next Borderlands game comes out, which looks like a simple cash cow to finish off the generation that cost little to develop.

Bioware has been on the shit path for a long time, and I'm not sure if I will get the third Dragon Age or ME 4. Like a poster said above, ME had style and an amazing story that was self contained and ended properly, yet had purpose to the trilogy as a whole. ME 2 had little purpose and it's events and overall story barely made an impact in the series and story line, it was just so bland. ME 3 successfully killed any interest in the series after the I played through what I refuse to call an "ending".

Team Meat. They were absolute dicks to me on Twitter in response to a polite and sincere question I had. Really patronising, cursed at me, told me not to buy their products. If it happened now, with NeoGAF and Reddit so prominent, it probably would have caused a big controversy. They literally just snapped. Couldn't believe it. Apparently they're quite renowned for being rude and difficult people.

Not bought an EA or Ubisoft game for several years.

Not going to buy any From Software games for a while either after Dark Souls 2.

Stopped buying the Gears of War games after the first one, because I just got annoyed every time Cliffy would give a smug dbaggy interview.

Bioware, Visceral, Maxis, pretty much every developer that got absorbed into the writhing mass that is EA will inevitably lose my support.

Yes.

I will NEVER buy or play any games ever again that Peter Molyneux has been involved with in any way after the Fable 3 "Spouse instant death" game breaking bug.

As soon as this happened to me in the game i found that it was a game breaking bug & everyone else was having the same issue then a few months later a patch was released (that never really worked) but you had to start the game from scratch, so the hours & hours i had spent already playing over half way through the game were for nothing, i had even got the Limited or Collectors Edition where you got the additional expansion packs that were going to be released later on in the year (i never downloaded them), i never played the game again after i read about having to start from the beginning again.

I sent a letter to Peter Molyneux asking for my money back, but i never got any sort of reply.

As far as i am concerned Peter Molyneux is a nasty man that should NEVER be trusted.

I didn't buy Journey because it was available 2 weeks early for PSN+ owners. At the time I was not a subscriber so I was pretty upset that I couldn't BUY the fucking game over some bullshit. I am now a PSN+ subscriber but I still won't get the game.

Tell me about it. I'm still salty that <insert shitload of 3rd party franchises> released for Playstation, thus abandoning their original fanbase!

How do you think Sega Saturn owners felt when they missed out on RE2?

You aren't saying anything I haven't already said before on this very thread.

Momentarily is hardly the same as indefinitely. You can clearly see from the RE4 sales figures, compared to those of REmake, where the most of the fanbase resided. I can certainly understand the old Final Fantasy fans feeling similarly back in the day, and the same goes for, say, Gears of War, if it had jumped ship at some point. And that's why I stopped supporting Capcom.

Ubisoft, EA. The usual suspects. Only buying titles if they are _really_ good. The likes of FIFA and Sim City(I know, publisher in that case - but they own Maxis)? No thanks.

I agree. I dsilike Moleynoux a lot. Anything with him involved is an instant no buy in my mind.

It usually goes the other way for me. I'll go out of my way to support someone I respect doing creative work, even if their work is merely decent. It's sort of a tiebreaker for me in that respect.

I'd ignore a fantastic game only if the key people involved were Orson Scott Card grade assholes (I tried to find a more appropriate word, but failed — I'd be open to alternative suggestions.)

AKA, games made by Doug Tenaple.

EA but also whoever makes Call of duty at the time and Ubisoft because of AC. They games just seem like half a copy pasterino of the game before. Its really sad that they still do this.

Noticing a sort of pattern here.. played, bought and liked, but never bought/played the sequel.
DA: Origins
Battlefield Bad Company
Dead Space
Crysis

Thanks EA and the devs I guess? Shouldn't probably have too much hope on Mirror's Edge 2 either probably.

I used to be a huge Insomniac fan, but then R2 happened. The game being a pile of shit wasn't the main issue, shortly before release many fans were calling out the daft design decisions in response we got a arrogant podcast that belittled those concerns and was just a circle jerk session. That was that.
I was a fan of Insomniac too, but they made so many bad decisions last gen and paid absolutely no attention to what their fans were asking from them. I'm not particular fond of their pr team either.

I refuse to give Phil Fish money, even down to turning down the slider on the humble bundle Fez was in.
On the other hand, I have no trouble supporting companies that also go the extra mile.

Devolver Digital is an example of this, they've been awesome in our interactions in the past, and will impulse buy alot of their stuff because of it.

Ha, I did the exact same thing. Fish is a troll and doesn't deserve my money.
