HBO Go, Comcast launches on Xbox 360 tomorrow

Does anybody know of Microsoft cut some kind of deal with HBO and YouTube for exclusivity on these apps? Because if not what the fuck is Sony waiting for.

Unless Sony is going to put stuff behind a paywall, they will get no money from people using those apps. This late in the gen, they need to be more worried about making money off of the people that currently have consoles instead of attracting the constantly shrinking pool of potential customers.

Basically Microsoft doesn't care if you spend money on games or if you spend your time watching all these apps since they have a revenue stream either way.

I tried logging on to activate HBOGo and I get the error "It is not possible to sign in at this time. Please try again later." Anyone else get that? What the hell is up? I have Cox.

EDIT: Tried Chrome and it worked...

I downloaded it when first released tried watching some Game of Thrones, but the buffering loading circle kept poping up every minute. But last night was able to watch for about 1 hour fine, but today won't run 30 secs without quality going down to sub VHS level or buffering again. I am on Optimum btw so not my connection since I stream Netflix HD no problem. The app is kind of useless to me right now if I have to be on at some weird hours just to use it without problems. Fast forwarding seems to cause many problems also, pretty crappy experience with this app so far for me.

I wish this app didn't suck because the content is primo.

The contrast is AWFUL and I have to restart everything about 10 times before it's finished because the audio gets out of sync

I'm done with Time Warner cable if this shit isn't fixed. ESPN3 blockage was bad but this HBO GO thing is the last straw. My contract expires in June and I'm gone if I can't access it by then.

Yeah, pissed off Time Warner customer here. I've already fired off a few nasty notes. I think I'll be canceling and switching over to DirectTV (or something...).

What's the issue? I was debating signing up today but if there are issues, then no dice.

Not sure what the issue was. The support person's response was "our engineers are working on it" but I'm pretty sure that's not the answer. TWC still hasn't gotten decent ESPN3 support either (it seems to be by region, some can see live events, some just get useless highlights). Everything I've heard is they are afraid of cord cutters. Well, guess what? I'm not cutting the cord but that cord won't be TWC anymore.

If you have TWC, neither HBO Go or ESPN3 work through the Xbox. It took us about a year longer than essentially everyone else to get HBO Go in general on top of that.

I knew HBO Go just finally happened, didn't know about ESPN - looks like I won't be giving TWC any money. Ill just wait until I move and get Direct TV.

Was excited to finally access HBO Go on my Xbox 360, then became extremely pissed off that Comcast doesn't allow HBO GO access on the system.

Yikes. What happened to the contrast? There is no black.
This has been a problem with Xbox stuff since the Metro UI update. I first noticed it in Netflix. Microsoft supposedly released a fix that also requires the apps themselves to be updated. ..but that was ages ago and Netflix is still fucky.

That's not true, hell they just added Sunday ticket a few months ago. I'm guessing Microsoft cut a deal like they did with Netflix.

Saw a few reviews from when the service first started that says you can only have one stream going at a time. But you can have up to three streams going by creating sub accounts via your ISP. I'm not sure how these rules apply to activating for the Xbox. Does this mean you can only activate one device for your main and other xboxes need to be activated using sub accounts? Anyone know for certain?

Can't find anything official

Does anyone know if HBO GO is going to be showing the Premiere of season 2 of Game of Thrones tonight? Or is there some 24 hour delay or something?

Yikes. What happened to the contrast? There is no black.

Try switching reference level to Expanded if it is not on it to see if it helps, I noticed some videos on 360 still are definitely not producing blacks right even though MS said they fixed it. It is kind of a pain since I know for a fact my TV is setup for Standard, all my games look better in that mode, plus all my games and videos look perfect on my PS3 with limited which is basically standard mode on 360. For the record I do use different tv modes for gaming and watching video, 360 levels are still messed up on some video where black is coming out gray.

As for the app I have been having better luck with it on 360, was able to watch last couple days without too many problems. I get like 5 HBO channells with cable anyway but it is good to have to catch up on some series. I wonder how many people are scamming off other peoples accounts and if they will try to crack down on it some way.

I thought ESPN3 was dependent on your ISP, not your TV service. I have DirecTV but I get ESPN3 on the 360 too.

It depends, I think... It's sort of mix and match. For instance, if you have time warner for your isp, but not your cable subscription, you can't use espn3 on your pc (you used to be able to, but now you need the cable subsciption) or obviosuly on xbox. It's a confusing mess the way this whole thing is done. I'd gladly pay a netflix style subsciption fee to access espn3... But don't want to go through the hassle of switching my isp.

I can't figure out how to go to the next episode of a series that I'm watching. Always got to search each time. I must be doing something wrong.

I don't think so. The 360 and Roku client both make this very difficult. It's probably best to queue up an entire series one episode at a time and stick with your watchlist.

I don't know why it's so difficult for them to come up with a decent UI since Netflix has been doing it for ages.

Pissed off Comcast customer here.
Canceled Comcast this week. Made sure to let them know HBO Go block is one of the main reasons, too. Verizon FIOS for the win. Verizon gets you your email address as soon as you order online and I was able to get HBO Go access right after.

Fuck Comcast.

So, do HBO Go and ESPN 3 work through DirecTV on the 360? I might ditch TW today.

ESPN 3 checks go through your ISP so anyone on Time Warner internet is always going to be screwed. HBO Go will work with Direct TV or Dish though (I use my Dad's HBO access).

Its available after it airs according to the little promo after the show.

If you are on the West Coast, you basically get it before or as the West Coast feed is airing. I can usually watch it at around 8 P.M. and the quality last Sunday was much better than I remember it being last season.

This situation with Time Warner is really getting frustrating. First they were the last (or one of the last) to get HBO Go, now it's not currently supported on Xbox?

Um... doesn't Time Warner own HBO... This makes no sense.

Yeah, that's my issue with the app on 360. Meanwhile, every other streaming device just works.

Maybe the wireless on the 360 just blows compared to everything else (ps3, ipad, laptop)

The only issue I've had with the app is sometimes you'll hit play and you'll get a message than HBO GO is having an issue playing the video. I just hit retry or say "xbox retry" and the video loads right up. Buffering is no slower or faster than HBO Go on my ipad or laptop. You may be just watching it at a time with a ton of traffic.

EDIT: On the other hand you may be getting your content from a completely different content server in a area that has a lot more users. I'm in California and shit is gravy.

Good news everyone!
NY Times: Comcast and Time Warner close to allowing HBO GO on Xbox
Comcast and Time Warner are close to finalizing a deal to make the HBO Go app available on Xbox, according to several people familiar with the negotiations.

The app, which offers all of the pay cable channel’s shows, movies, and documentaries, will be available to Comcast’s 22.3 million Xfinity subscribers via the Xbox as early as this week, said the people, who were not authorized to discuss the deal publicly.

Edit-Article has been updated to take out the Time Warner part.
