Which viera set is the absolute best at the 40" - 42" range?

Panasonic doesn't do LCD over 37", nor do they have any 40" model tvs. The next size is their 42" Plasma models. They are really, really sweet tvs and should be in the 900$ range depending if you go 720 or 1080, and at that size I'd recommend 1080.

The TC-P42G10 is their current best 42inch plasma.

I have a panasonic viera 42 inch from last year (TH-C42FD18) and love it. Games, movies, SD and HD-TV look gorgeous. Cannot recommend it enough. Only drawback is higher power consumption/heat generation over LCD. But the 2009 panels are supposed to consume much less power and heat. Black levels and color accuracy are so far beyond LCD's in the same price range it's a no brainer to go with a viera.

Thanks a bunch. I hate lcd sets, cant stand them...plasma sets looks so much more crisp and vibrant for me.

I don't believe a shift from component to HDMI is worth that much. I initially ran my 360 on component when I received my new HDTV since I had to wait for the HDMI I ordered to ship and it looked fine with component. I really didn't notice much of a visual difference. What I DO like is only having one wire from my 360 to my tv and not 5.
On the 360 I agree.

I think HDMI's strength is really the convenience of one cable, 1080p and then of course the compliance with HDCP for BluRay. Since the Xbox doesn't play Bluray's the HDCP is a non issue, 1080p is unavailable on your tv so that's a non issue so the only thing it'd do is less wires.

How is burn-in on plasma sets nowadays? I know it used to be an issue, but wasnt sure if this was still a real danger.

Pioneer and Panasonic are pretty much invulnerable to IR under normal usage. Samsung is generally pretty good about it nowadays as well. Burn in should be impossible unless you're trying to get it. I wouldn't trust any other brand, though.

Cool, appreciate the info. I was a bit worried about the usual gaming hud causing issues, but its good to know that this isnt a problem anymore.
