Heads up: Mizuguchi live on G4 now

I like how almost everyone of his responses began with "So, um". He did pretty well up there with no translator, all things considered.

His accent was pretty good on those words, he probably practices them in the mirror for a couple hours a day..

Yeah transcribing the Tokyopia interview became a concious decision on how many of the So,um's to include in the text. Compared to your normal Japanese person, his english is excellent.

I can't believe he gave a shout out to the GAF :lol

You know, one day someone is going to write a book about this forum. Now would be a very good time, what with all of the mainstream interest in blogging and what not.

(starts plotting)

I just want to throw out a quick thanks to tedtropy and aoi for making this available, potentially missing out on stuff like this is one of the only sucky things about living on the other side of the world. You guys rock. And (if by any small chance you see this thread) so do you Mizuguchi.

Would "eito/eeto" be the Japanese equivalent?

jkeeling, sorry to repeat this if it's already been said, but do us all a favor and make sure that he sees this thread, cool?

Yep cool. I'll drop him a line after the madness of GDC.

Are you the same Fortninety posting at Tokyopia? In which case hello, I'm the same Justin. :)

You're the justin that used to post at the GAF for years, and is an investment banker or something (and your family is super rich, but you wanted to make your own way)?

If so, welcome back!

The same Justin who went out in a blaze of glory with the shockwave post of rubbing the Japanese chick's boobs, woo!

FUCKING AWESOME

Thanks to this thread I was able to see the interview.

Justin I would love to personally thank you and Kevin for giving us guys such importance and giving GAF such a great hommage. Yeah like all forums it's filled with whiny bitches that love to constantly hate on G4 and everything that's wrong with the industry but they are a massive group of guys here who genuinly enjoy things like this and you've made our day.

Mizuguchi is most certainly the man, definitely someone for budding game developers to aspire to be when they work in the industry. Hopefully one day I'll make a mark such as his in the gaming industry.

Arrg I really didn't like the Tokyopia forums back in the day but if people like FortNinety and Justin post there I really should start reading it daily.

I think it was a pair of Japanese schoolgirls making out, but close enough. :)

Yeah, I stopped posting primarily because it's a conflict of interest with the kind of work I do and what I'm exposed to. I'm really here to clarify a few things in the G4/Miz thead then out.

GAF is a fantastic forum despite everything. Sure there are assholes, but that's the internet for you. I know plenty of journalists out there get good tips on stories from GAF and the small shoutout is well deserved.

Dear Mizuguchi,

if you are reading this. Buy the Space Channel 5 + REZ franchise back from SEGA and blow us away with another brilliant title in the franchises. I love you.

Yours tenderly,
Odnetnin

For the love of gaming, no more sequels. i want original games. i'm sure we'll see concepts of previous Mizaguchi games in new ones anyways. Sequels should come naturally, not as a pacifying reaction to those who weren't involved with the conception of the prequels.

What I find interesting is Nintendo seemingly espouces simplicity in game design and then releases the most complicated gaming hardware yet. And then there's Mizuguchi which has taken this philosophy and made it into something that actually works by breaking games out of their traditional niche and recognizing them as being part of a wider experience. Just look at Rez, the game is played primarily with one button, and is very simple in terms of the gameplay itself. However, the entire experience is so unique and cohesive it distinguishes itself as something entirely different. Mizuguchi's design philosophy of synethsatia I think is what he called it is very interesting and I hope we see more people start to follow in that direction and try new things, as Q has limited resources and can't do everything.

You guys realize not only did we get a developer to give a shout out to gaf, we didnt get some shitty guy like the dude behind catwoman, we got fucking tetsuya mizuguchi. One of the best post 2d developers out there? I mean seriously, thats pretty fucking crazy.

Yeah, it was great. And I hate to sound corny, but it made be feel great as a gamer and a member of GAF. The guy is a hero of the industry.

Just glad everyone gets a chance to see it, and thanks again for the bandwith aoi. Guess I should give my ISP props for giving me a nice chunk of fast space without alot of moderation as well. EV1.net, I make sweet love to you via 28K.

I hate to piss in the pool, and while it's cool that he mentionned the forum, he was pretty much FORCED to do it. He was like "uuh.. yeah hello gaming-age?"

Sorry for the late reply, but I logged off right after my post to get to bed (and I ended up not being able to sleep, so I played a few games of Rez :) ).

But yes Justin, I am the same guy. Another fan of Tokyopia here!

Is Kevin Periera still banned? If anything warrants an un-banning, I would think this would be it.

Awesome stuff by the way. I might just break out some Rez tonight in his honor.

I don't believe that was really him. A mod asked him to proove who he is by privately emailing the mod, but the person was not able to and was apparently some kid at a mid-west college or something like that.

That, and exactly how many people use their full name as a nick...

-Immy

I thought you got your name because you were unable to provide a mod with proof you are who you claim to be :D

Edit: Actually a mod can do an IP check/trace on you right now as Immy is apparently in San Francisco covering GDC live for The Screen Savers.
