I don't see how. The fact that you discard your hand every turn in Solforge means that long term planning and strategies in a match are impossible. Solforge is designed around asyncronous play, which is great for convenience but poor for depth.

Eh it's not a great feeling either way, you wish you had taken the money, and while i don't regret my choice i wish i was playing right now

It is true you sac your hand at the end of each turn but the long term planning is about what you play and not what you keep. Every card you play levels up and is returned to the bottom of your deck. Every 4 rounds you level up and your deck is shuffled so starting round 5 you have a chance to draw level 2 cards.

Over the course of each level, which is 4 rounds, you see 2/3rds of your deck (30 cards per deck exactly, no more or less). You play 2 cards a turn so 8 cards are leveled up each level.

So more or less there is actually a lot of long term strategy because no only are you planning your own upgrades, you're anticipating what your opponent plans to do based on what cards they play. For example, someone plays a rare card (something that can continually hurt you every round) you can plan in the future to counter that card by leveling up the proper cards to counter it.

There is a bit of randomness but it is not unmanageable, similar to other games.

I want to play hearthstone so bad though. Thanks for your response, I hope more people respond with their thoughts :)
 
Personally, I'm pissed at Solforge for increasing the deck size, introducing a lot more luck. Hearthstone kept a small deck size, and with all the draw effects going on you actually have a chance at seeing almost all your deck in a 10 turn game.

Both Solforge and Hearthstone have 30 card decks... Not to mention that Solforge lets you run 3 copies of each card compared to HS's 2. Solforge is less random in that regard so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
 
Speaking of, is there a penalty for running out of cards? Or how does that work, I've yet to see/read anything on it. Especially since I do like the appeal of "draw" decks and with the Warlock deck that seems to be the point.

Originally in Solforge you had 20 card decks, so that you saw your entire deck before the reshuffle. With 30 card decks, you see 2/3rd of the deck each redraw and can get screwed by not drawing your higher level cards later. Solforge is a lot more swingy than Hearthstone so a bad draw can be an auto-loss a lot easier.

Yes. You take 1 dmg the first time you try to draw a card, but don't have any cards to draw. The next time you take 2 dmg, the next time you take 3, etc.

You lose HP for every missing card, so at first turn 1 hp, at second turn 2 hp etc. You want to draw cards, You get additional damage too.

I stopped playing Solforge completely when I got my HS key. The PC client is super buggy in Solforge, requiring a restart pretty much after every match.

As a Solforge backer, I opened like 100+ packs and got pretty much nothing. The reward structure in Solforge is just way off. I've been spamming Arena in HS for a week straight and I'm still having fun.

Competitively I think HS is going to be way better. Solforge is better balanced at the moment, but there is just so much more interaction in HS, makes the game a lot more exciting to play and watch.
 
so after the giant bomb quick look i'm interested in this game so i'm wondering just how hard is to get into the beta? should i even try?

well i made a new blizzard account since i didn't had one and opted in by sending my specs, i hear its a beta for Americans only so i'm wondering if i should had used a proxy first but whatever. Keeping my fingers closed!

Gamespot is playing the demo live and giving away codes on their facebook page from time to time. The good thing is that the code always come with the last digit hidden, so you copy/paste the code they give on their page and try to guess the last digit from 1-9. Its good against bots and people that are so fast you dont have a chance. I got my key on the third try even after guessing wrong the first time and Im downloading the game now :D

You dont even need to watch the stream. Just go to the facebook page and wait for the popup saying theres a new gamespot post. Then copy/paste the key and try to guess the last digit on your battle.net account page. They said just now there will be keys for the next hour then its done.

they stopped giving facebook codes,for awhile i'm now reduced to trying the twitch stream for getting a key lol.....ughh
 
Anyone get/know if Blizzard sent out their round of keys today yet? (They were sending out more invites, right?)
 
Well shit.

I sold my iPhone a while back without removing my authenticator from it. I haven't played a Blizzard game in so long that I totally forgot about it. Anyone have an idea how long it takes to remove by sending a scan of my ID? I would really like to check this game out.

I've only played SolForge on the Steam client, but perhaps that patch will also make the PC client way more stable than it was last time I played. I literally had to restart every single time my friend and I made a move.

Despite that, I agree. The gameplay is definitely lacking. I think it's a good concept, but I really like TCG games with a lot of depth and SolForge seems to lack that. It's why I'm most interested in Hex, followed by Hearthstone, and then SolForge.

I feel like solforge does have a lot of depth, it just doesn't teach you the depth in the tutorial.

I know there's a lot of planning via playing certain cards but I miss instants, permanence, and keeping my hand. Hearthstone isn't more complex than SolForge necessarily, but I'm more excited about Hearthstone because of that Blizzard polish. Hex has them both beat in terms of depth and features though. Hearthstone will likely be more polished with a better UI, however.

I'm always disappointed. I used up my luck getting into the battle.net app beta. Where's my something special I was promised for that!

Finally got around to giving warlock a shot since it came up as a 5 win/60g daily. Man, you can fill the board super fast if you have a summoning portal up.
