Ah, I did some extra checking and I guess nothing has really changed. If I wanted to lament Activision's (Kotick's) influence over Blizzard, then I should have done it a long time ago.
I guess I alway kind of counted on Vivendi to keep the Activision portion in check so they'd let Blizzard do their thing, but the D3 auction house should have proved that wrong.

I'm glad the game doesn't tally loses because the losing streak I'm on trying to get these 2 shaman/warlock wins is disgusting. I need to look some decent decks for these classes because mine are garbage.
Just won first Arena match as Paladin. My previous time playing Arena I had no idea how to make a deck so I lost all three matches. This time my deck is definitely a bit better built, won with the help of a Questing Adventurer and that card that gives taunt to the cards next to it.

I signed up yesterday and got an email from Blizzard. I'm not even subscribed to WoW.
I just played the first four tutorial missions and I'm really liking the presentation. Very slick.
Looking forward to playing a lot more. I like how similar it is to Magic (or at least seemingly so in the beginning).

I signed up before the second wave - I missed the opt-in for the first wave because I wasn't interested until I saw gameplay. I also subscribed to WoW because Hearthstone reignited that WoW interest and I still have no invite.

Maybe because I played so much scrolls, but I hate how they reset the tutorial and class unlocks. It is too much of a grind. Arena is fun and all but as a card game I am not the biggest fan. Hopefully with more cards I can come back to hearthstone!

Is there a community or response thread on here for Scrolls? I feel like I've never seen anyone really mention it on here. It's mainly Hearthstone and Hex in terms of browser card games.
Maybe like how CardHunter came and went?
Not that I have seen but I am fairly new to NeoGaf and am not sure how to sure for past OT threads.
I also played Card Hunter and found that to be very unique and fun but as you said it came and went. Scrolls I believe has more life in it with new types like Decay. I loved how there was the movement side of it and placing units. After playing that and going back to just a card game it is not as fun.
there is a scrolls OT, but its very inactive
while i think mana cards (aka lands in MTG) is the superior format, i think (discard card for resource) is even worse than having free mana every turn.
that having said, i like the positional gameplay of scrolls
cardhunter was just a single player game to me. i dont really like the system for a pvp type game.

its kinda shitty how you have to generate 110g(includes daily quest) from PvP if you want to play 1 arena a day.

well assuming you go 3-3 in arena (30g), then thats 24 wins!

I had no idea that Scrolls was released. Going to take a look at that.
Young priestess is a baller ass card if you can protect it. Super cheap and the escalation on the one health is very nice. Had a yound priestess and that 3/3 bear card with the taunt vs a priest and he was never able to do shit about it because the bear kept getting a ton of health in between attacks and he could never being enough damage to drop it. He eventually got it but by then I had two other taunt guys ready to go.
Yep. At this point I don't mind that much because I'm still learning, and I still have to level a couple of classes to 10, but I wouldn't complain if Blizz decided to give you a free arena ticket every 24 hrs or something. I doubt they will tho.
Aww, warlock is the best! Just make sure to abuse life tap as much as (in?)humanly possible~
I love Scrolls! You get a free starter deck so choose wisely! Just like Hearthstone the grind for cards is rough, but the starter decks are pretty strong.
I heard that Scrolls is too much grind and you cannot pay to make it disappear. So I stayed away from that game.

but lets say it IS "free arena every 2 days" - when arena is the meat of the game, being able to play it just once every 2 days is kinda little
They should boost rewards for area, because its ridiculous that for 6 wins i got 50 gold ... And for 4 i got 40 gold.
I had so much bad luck with arena lately. Its not even that i had terrible hand, other had just freaking outstanding hands and were top decking me all the time ;\
For my last 7-3 arena I got about 200 gold.
I don't really consider Arena the meat of the game, though. I think it's intended to be Constructed.

If you spend what would amount to less than a full priced game, you're immediately competitive and "good enough" (easily good enough) to compete.
Unless your position is "I never want to pay money and I also lack patience to grind up so as to not spend money", it's a pretty reasonable setup currently. Especially with the gold rewards from playing x amount of games, leveling each class to 10, and beating every expert AI.

Everyone I know who plays the game (myself included) absolutely hates Constructed and loves Arena. I am pretty sure Blizzard is aware of the strength and weaknesses of the game and it's not a coincidence the only good gamemode is the one being locked behind a paywall.

You can't really put constructed behind a paywall. Well other than what's in your deck, but no TCG in the world charges to play normal matches. Arena is like drafting, and that's always behind a paywall because you're getting new cards for your normal play with it.
Maybe as a compromise they can make a beginners arena that doesn't award gold or packs, and only cost 10 or so gold to play in. Or make it entirely free, and don't award anything from it.

When I finally get my hands on a Beta key (...) I will mostly play Arena too. It just seems much more fun than constructed and Blizzard indeed seems to know it.

Just want to say again, this really has nothing to do with Blizzard, drafting is always behind a paywall in all TCGs. That's just how it is.

Yeah, but you don't get to keep the cards you draft in Arena, right? Noramlly when I do Magic drafts I get to keep the cards.

They could start by improving constructed and making it worth playing in masters without spending several full price games worth of money on booster packs.
And yeah, a beginners arena would be fine. Likewise, they could easily add some kind of draft duel between friends that makes use of the existing Arena interface. It's not like they would have to give out any rewards for that.
I played a ton of matches since the wipe (~230 wins in Constructed and ~230 in Arena) and really enjoyed the game for a while, but I am at the point where Constructed is getting extremely boring and only Arena seems worth playing.
Anyone else think that they've made it a bit too hard to earn coins to earn packs? It seems like you need to play a ridiculous amount of games for a small pack. I understand that they need to create value for the game and they have given you a large amount of cards to start with. I'm just curious to get the take of people that have been playing for a while, I just got in this week. I like drafting in other TCG but I'm hoping that isnt the only efficient way to earn cards.

1. just because that's how it is doesnt mean it has to be that way
2. in other TCG's the reward from drafts (boosters) is directly related to the buy in (3 booster 2 tix). In this case, the rewards and the buy ins are distinct and so the sense of reward or of a feedback loop that arena can pay for itself is further from other TCGs.
why not just make it so arena costs 1 booster and 50g?
instead, the current buy in price really punishes those who have done poorly because the booster pack is essentially worthless to them (in an arena sense) - while in other TCG's the booster you get from doing poorly can still be valuable.
