Heavenly Sword Developer Interview: 60FPS confirmed and likely T-rating?

You guys forget that the devs removing blood/gore to get that Teen rating is a business move aimed at getting more sales. It's a form of censorship.

They didn't censor anything. There are videos of HS concepts going back for a few years now and none of them feature any kind of blood. This was before they had any sort of publisher to back them.

Or maybe the developers aren't fixated with gore. Going by your logic every game should have over the top gore with a slider. I CAN'T WAIT FOR BANJO KAZOOIE NOW WITH DECAPATATIONS.
lol. chopping guys, dozens and dozens shit maybe hundreds of guys, to death with a big ass sword and crazy kung fu: totally acceptable. but if one of them bleeds? forgetaboutit. the lack of blood is dumb, and it looks dumb. some poor SOB crawls backwards across the floor, head shaking frantically, while the heavenly sword gets slammed down right along his crotch line, and then what? it just sinks through him like a star trek hologram? it's silly, especially since the game looks to be doing the whole "rough, tough ma-ture storyline" thing.

The original target render is actually one of the videos on that Youtube page, btw. Today was the first time I'd ever seen it, and you're right, not a drop of blood. PEACE.

EDIT: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iN6FlIcZEjE (point out the blood that's been "removed")

:lol Oh you guys are just hilarious. Especially this 30 fps comment is just pure irony considering you're an X360 fan.

Talk about the irony! You guys spew on and on about fanboy retard comments, then you turn around and make them. You guys keep bashing the 360 for 30fps games, don't you think they're gonna return the favor when we think a game is confirmed 60 only to actually be 30?

That's a mighty cool concept trailer, reminds me of House of The Flying Daggers and Hero. I hope they're able to put in all of that, especially the water fighting and the 'freeze/slow time' in the air stuff. The music is awesome too. Hype just went up a couple of notches.

It doesn't surprise me, the lack of blood. Ninja Theory has been striving for the Wire-Fu type of setup for this game, from which I've never seen lots of blood or any at all.

There's another video that was done in 04 I think that's running on a real time game engine that also doesn't feature blood. And through each of the trailers the basic concept of the game stays the same although Nariko's appearance and the look of the Heavenly Sword has changed for the better.

They're making a sword combat action game with some obvious depictions of violence (crotch cut!). You're telling me that the people following HS's development didn't expect blood and gore? Then why is everybody bitching?

And Banjo Kazooie should have a gore slider

Soul Calibur was a sword combat game with some pretty brutal combat combos. It didn't have blood and gore. It's also regarded as a great sword combat game, perhaps the greatest sword combat game. Yeah, and it sold a few copies, too.

Time Killers? Plenty of blood and gore. Great? Not so much.

We've seen trailers and demos of this game for nearly two years now. It's never had one drop of blood in any of the trailers or demos, AFAIK.

"People following HS's development" should know this. And I'm quite sure the vast majority don't give a crap. We just want to play the game.

soul calibur also dresses up even the most mundane of movements with a kaleidiscope explosion of fireworks.

by the way, wushu has mad blood in it, especially movies with weapons. face it, the total absence of blood is just weird. i'm sure its a concession to the stupid strict violence laws that most EU videogames have to adhere to, but it still sucks.

Twin Dragons (or whatever the awesome weapons Jet Li movie was, had no blood. It's only wierd based on your perspective. Western gamers tend to have more of a blood fetish than in Japan. Remember when MK2 shipped with green blood over there? Since this game is heavily influenced by Eastern themes, and borrows a lot from movies like Crouching Tiger and the like, then the absence of blood makes perfect sense, and isn't wierd in the least. That and the game never aimed to feature blood from concept to creation, so I fail to see what's so wierd about it now. This game jumped to the top of the PS3 Want List based on a bloodless trailer as well. I think it's wierd that blood would become such an issue to some now in the 11th hour of development. What has changed in your mind between E3 05 and now? Only Scrivener (Sony prophet) claimed this game would have blood and gore, one of a few things he was wrong about. PEACE.

crouching tiger didnt have much blood from what i remember. which is one of the games biggest influences. Infact, IIRC the team who did sound on that movie is working on this game.

definitely did. im not asking for rivers of the stuff. but if a man catches a sword through his belly, yeah, he's going to leak a little.

By the way, the scivilinger (or whatever his nickname was), aka SONY prophet, was apparently wrong on this one. He had a clever tactic, putting things that aren't really important (PSP Pack), but hold true, along with false but BIG claims (blood in HS, Killzone 2 trailer), to raise the hype level around PS3.

Sorry for OT, but that was a smart move on his side :) .

We're talking about Heavenly Sword here mate, it cuts through the soul rather than body.

i dont really care about the blood, but i find its absence visually jarring and disingenious to the setting. obviously the reason you would remove blood from such a violent game is either to A: appease your corporate and or govermental overlords, or B: because you feel that harpooning a guy to the wall is good family fun as long as he's some sort of bloodless mutation of the human species.

I find option A unsatisfactory because sanitizing a game for little kids who shouldn't be playing it in the first place sucks, and option B is just laugh out loud funny.

Anyway you guys should rewatch your kung fu. It's not Friday the 13th but it's not 3 Ninjas either. PEAS.

it had blood, but as i said the movie didnt have that much blood. hell, even the video game on the movie didnt have blood.

Why so much interest in gore? I'm more interested in how the game plays instead.

To some gore has significant importance for gameplay.

Knowing that HS uses Havok 4 and it's particles physics, I can't even imagine how much chaos would unleash in youvseveryoneelse fight, all the flying limbs... crazy, they would have to make new rating for it "BT - brain torture" .

If it's not in the original concept of the game, then it's neither A, nor B. And I feel this discussion is pointless now. There's no blood. Never was, never will be. End of story. PEACE.

the question is why wasn't it in the original concept. thought that was pretty clear. PIECE.

I think they are from GDC UK, the event this thread is based on I think.

The animations and collision detection are really impressive :)
kinda funny seeing her bald for the animation sequence though. :p

Those are really cool, I hope there's a good level of control over those moves, I would like to execute them myself and not just watch an animation.

i have a feeling it sjust watching those animations after button presses

I hope not, for something like a giant swing I hope at least they do it similar to Ryu Ga Gotoku... I hope the folks at NT understand that they're making a game, not a movie.

No blood will make this game suck. Blood and gore is the key. That's why Soldier Of Fortune is probably the best FPS ever made.

...no.

Actually it has a ton of blood (especially at the end). At least the original version, Tai Chi Master. Disney/Weinsteins released it in the states as Twin Warriors and they have a habit of censoring their martial arts releases. They cut significant stuff out of Drunken Master 2 (final sequence) and Fist of Legend (opium smoking, completely made up lines in the script, etc.).

:lol Some of you guys will never get Mark Gonzales' sarcasm.

I remember a few months ago after the PS3 price announcement when things were crazy, he was making fun of the anti-Sony fanboys and their lame jokes all the time and they didn't even understand he was mocking them. Some of them were actually agreeing with him. His sarcasm is very very subtle but smart and hilarious nonetheless.

WTF? I know Nina said that you can pick up enemy bodies and use them to fight, but to this extent?

It's cool but I think they're overdoing it a bit with this one, they need to make the animations shorter, more playing and less watching.

I hope they show at least one decent boss really soon, every 3D action game needs epic boss fights.
