Heavy Rain sales over 1 million

Dumbest thing I've ever read.

Well, it's not terribly surprising. Always 1 person in every thread here who talks with some ridiculous hyperbole like "X game is shit! How can anyone like that steaming pile of garbage?". Whether they truly believe it or just looking for attention, I do not know.

I agree. But that can't be the only part of it which was flawed. If they really only expected 200,000-300,000 sales, they couldn't have approved a budget of +20 million.

Unless, of course, the game wasn't expected to make money. They did say that it only got approved due to the need to get another game in their lineup that they could use to promote the PS3.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the original statement doesn't say WHO made the estimate. They could be referring to analyst estimates, which low-balled the game, while internal estimates had a higher estimate.

It could also be that the game was signed and got out of control, and rather than can it, they decided to finish it and make back as much as they could.

There are a lot of variables.

These are the comments that get me :lol You can love new things but still dislike/hate this game.

Of course you can... where did I state that you weren't free to dislike this game? Absurd. The point is that many were willing to try this game, rather than just sink more money into the latest FPS.

Delighted to see sony's / QD's gamble paid off. Regardless of the quality of the game, this succes hopefully inspires sony to keep going off into the deep end with these passion projects in the age of the blockbuster.

Well done to QD, the more variety in gaming the better.

Lets hope stronger storytellers get involved though, Heavy Rain was very good fun. But the story falls apart when you glance a critical eye over it.

And some of the VO work was outrageously bad for a game with such quality presentation.

I also don't get why people would think this would be a 'niche' game 'Fahrenheit' did very well and i saw no reason that this game wouldn't do the same.

Agree 100%. Hopefully this means that QD can hire actual writers next time and keep Cage far away from anything having to do with plot.

200-300k is a lie , even crappy indigo prophecy sold at least 600 k, + they had at least 1,2 millions Heavy rain BD pressed world wide for the launch.
And break even for that game is around 1,4 millions.
1.4 to break even seems like an awfully high number. No offence, but anything you say about this game should be taken with a big grain of salt. It seems to me you've been spreading misinformation about it since the day it was first demoed. I still remember you saying that characters will move completely on rails and that you will not be able to move then anywhere you want during exploration scenes. You were saying things like that matter of factly then, just as you're giving this new info here now.

One of the most unique gaming experiences I've had to date. I'll be all over QD's next game.

Me too. I was seriously skeptical about buying the game. Even thought it was pretty boring and I wasted my money in the beginning of the game. But once I got to the
apartment burglary murder dream
scene I was like "HOLY SHIT THIS IS INCREDIBLE!"

Owned. :lol :lol

I don't get people calling this game average. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it's bad or "average".

I didn't like Dragon age, but I don't think it's average either, just not my thing.

See Sony?

Even average games can sell with some advertising.

Was there much advertising for it? I didn't see any. Well none linked to Kevin Butler.

I'll ignore the average comment though.

Well deserved. It was a truly remarkable experience for me, flaws and all. Few games this year have messed with my mind so much like HR did with the Lizard trial.

Pretty surprising considering how different of a title it is and the fact that it's only on one platform. I'm sure Sony and Cage are both pretty pleased. Kudos Quantic Dream!

I believe it was heavily advertised in Europe and maybe Australia. Not much by SCEA in the US and Canada.

Not in the US. 220K in 5 days with no substantial advertising effort.

Plus I would hardly call a game with an 87 metacritic (after 104 reviews) average.

Cool, I see.

I'm just about to order a second copy for a friend who, unfortunately, doesn't have much disposable income. But he tried the demo and loved it so I'm hoping it'll float his boat.

With the high scores games tend to receive nowdays, it's probably along the lines of average.

Casuals love that shit.
It's crazy how people who happen to post on the internet think the exact opposite. "I PAID FOR A GODDAMN VIDEOGAME NOT A MOVIE"

Makes you wonder what the smarter group is here

It's basically just preferences. And since people who aren't experienced in videogames can do all these actions without complications it makes them feel good about themselves and the game. Just like people who aren't into fighters see all the unnecesarily complicated moves and shun on them.

I'd also like to add, probably sales have been very viral, because it's a game that tries to be something intelectual, and people aren't used to that in videogames, and because of the pasive play style, you can invite people to check out the game and word spreads.

I'd say the Heavy Rain advertising here in the UK was 'subdued', it was definitely there but nothing like Nintendo's spamming every channel, or even Uncharted 2's, which was shown quite a bit on telly.
Biggest marketing for a game i've seen outside of Nintendo stuff recently is FFXIII, which was on the side of probably 8/10 buses for a good few weeks here, and is still on a good few of them now.

Intelligence has nothing to do with it... just different tastes. I myslef don't like these types of games, but I can undertand some people loving them. I guess I rather watch a movie or read a good book for this type of thrills. Different folks different strokes...
