Heightism:

Taller individuals are often placed in greater positions of power.

An example is the trend of the taller candidate in a Presidential election to win said election.

"A survey of Fortune 500 CEO height in 2005 revealed that they were on average 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m) tall, which is approximately 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) taller than the average American man. 30% were 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) tall or more; in comparison only 3.9% of the overall United States population is of this height. Similar surveys have uncovered that less than 3% of CEOs were below 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) in height. Ninety percent of CEOs are of above average height."

In the media there is typically a negative association with being shorter.

Do you have any experiences with heightism?

Do you think the prejudice is largely ignored?

Beardism:

It's a fact that most people with a higher income do not have a beard.

Isn't that terrible?

I think it exists, and I think it is extremely subconscious. If someone watched a video of themselves and how they react differently towards different height people in the same scenarios, they'd probably be shocked.

I'm 5'6", and not really. I mean, I suppose it puts some girls off limits since I'm not attracted to chicks taller than myself (doubt they're attracted to me either), but that's about it.

You can shave a beard... I do not mean to demean that form of discrimination if you are experience but I feel heightism is different because it is not as controllable

Also, how tall are you LostVoyager? I've seen you talk about heightism several times before, but I don't recall you ever stating your actual height.

This guy makes the best threads.
Thanks, you flatter me... I do not consider my threads to be any good though (there are certainly more thorough and well composed threads out there). I do think that various forms of discrimination are not discussed enough so I made this thread.

I apologize if this thread bothers anyone who does not consider this form of discrimination to be legitimate.

Lets just call that a betterism
So tall people are superior to shorter people? I disagree with that opinion. I think there are good/bad people of all heights (well good/bad is subjective but I am sure we all know that).

I think I am like 5'9- 5'10. Its not a form of discrimination that I constantly face but there is a little bit of discrimination even at that height (not saying it is comparable to shorter heights).

I am not trying to say woe is life being at a shorter/average height but discrimination is supported through many studies.

No he is usually talking about lookism. Now he is on to heightism. Now I feel like I have to know how short and ugly this dude is.

BTW, 5'7" here. Never noticed it holding me back at all. Maybe it's a confidence issue more than a height issue.

YOU ARE AVERAGE.

AVERAGE.

I, on the other hand, am 5'7" and am actually below average.

When are you going to make a thread about penism? We in the big dick club want to gloat.
Well you are free to make that topic if you want.
are you serious lostvoyager?
Yes, why wouldn't I be it is a serious subject in my view.

Well lookism is probably the most personal form of discrimination I experience. Institutional racism is a massive issue as is sexism, classism, etc but those have many threads about them that probably discuss the issue much more eloquently.

I definitely get looked down on for being so short :/ Most of the time it's just teasing, and that's okay, but I kinda get bothered when someone is really amused by how short I am >.<

being taller, stronger, in shape and clean with large penis gives you the alpha male advantage. it's easier to move up the ranks because the normals have a hard time saying no to you.

One of my old girlfriends was 6'7'', I'm 6'1"

Sometimes she would pick me up to kiss her...I miss her, her body was like a playground, I would crawl all over her ass.

I'm 5'5. If you're not into taller girls, you're doing it wrong. I think I've dated one girl who was shorter than me. Everyone else has been at least 5'7, one was 5'10. It's awesome. And the only way to go.

The only guy who Heightism really affects is the short guys who have a chip on their shoulder for being short. I've never had a problem with it, because being short never really bothered me. I don't think I've ever been discriminated against for my height. If I have been, I wasn't aware of it. If you don't give a fuck that you are short, no one else will, either. I can ride all the roller coasters I want, so I don't give a fuck. The only issue I have with being short is it is hard to find clothes that fit well. Pants especially. I'm not a super skinny short guy. I'm not fat, but I am a bit stocky and have especially thick legs. I always have to buy a size up so my pants aren't super tight and uncomfortable around my thighs. Which means all my pants are either too long, too baggy, or both. It's the only problem I've ever had being a short guy.

I guess I!m about 2 inches below average height if the stats in the OP are correct. Used to bug me way more when I was younger since I'm pretty sure I started puberty later than most of my peers. Even though I've sprouted up a little I'm still shorter than most, but my height doesn't bother me nearly as much as it used to. In most cases it's really only as big of a problem as you make it out to be. Just accept who you are and It shouldn't get in your way.

Oh man... So off topic, but that account is so awesome.

Also I just learned a new word from one of those tweets "headmate". I thought it was going to be about furries or something, but it's even worse than that. I don't want to know these things about people...

Looks like the account was created someone who frequents many furry sites, lol.

Wow, these are great quotes.

You can enjoy sex and still be asexual. You can desire sex (sexual desire is not sexual attraction) and still be asexual.

hahaha

Yes, I am aware... I am not saying I have the hard life regarding height although I do not really have the benefits of being tall.
Have you experienced discrimination based on your height if you do not mind me asking?
I'm 5'9. But I'm female so it doesn't count.

It does count, if you experience any form of discrimination based on that height fill free... I think I read "High fashion modeling agencies contract with a diverse group of models, however nearly without exception (unless a model is young enough to still be growing), agencies stipulate women to be between 5'8 (minimum) and taller and men must be between 6'0" and 6'3" as well as be at a weight that is proportionate with their height. Models should be fit or in reasonable physical condition that is appropriate for their height." --- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modeling_agency#Mandatory_height_requirements
Actor/actresses benefit alot from a taller stature as well actor/actress being shorter.

It is unfortunate that CEOs experience such height based discrimination and rather than be merit based height becomes a factor.

I definitely get looked down on for being so short :/ Most of the time it's just teasing, and that's okay, but I kinda get bothered when someone is really amused by how short I am >.<

Do you find some girls are really bad about this? I know of a girl who will tell guys that they are "tiny" as if she is talking to a cute little puppy dog. Maybe it's because I have a height that deviates from the norm (super tall) but I find it offensive.

Sorry for putting sexism in your heightism thread.

being taller, stronger, in shape and clean with large penis gives you the alpha male advantage. it's easier to move up the ranks because the normals have a hard time saying no to you.

Well, I'm strong, in shape, and clean. Does that help?

Someone has an inferiority complex.

No kidding.

It's fitism next? seriously, because I need to know if I have an advantage in life not only due to looking good, having an attractive face and being of average height, but I also work out so I'm more athletic than the average american? Would you like me to stop training and eat like shit so I can stop having an advantage? Would you like to play basketball? Reach the top shelf at the retail store? Come on.

People are different due to their genetics. There's already laws in states saying you cannot discriminate against somebody due to race, religion, creed, gender, sexual orientation, and genetic background. Do you want to add "how attractive you are based on a panel of both sexes grading you from one to ten" and "how short you are compared to the average height due to possible intimidation factor and inability to interview because you may be looking up at the boss?"

Woah, woah, woah! I thought I was the tall geek here, holy smokes, most of you are taller than me.

6'1'' 3/4
