Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Hits 100k Copies Sold on Steam

Really happy it's selling so well, both because it's a phenomenal experience and because I want to see more models of development mirror this one. Playing through this game right now, and if this is what a team this small and this talented can do on this scale, sign me up for more.

Mosts of the writers etc behind Telltale's biggest series like TWD, Wolf and Borderlands left to make games like Firewatch and Oxenfree I believe
And those two games are extremely great. Oxenfree is one of THE GOTYs from last year.
...and there's also the popular rumor/truth that the Telltale CEO coded their engine himself and out of a peculiar sense of vainglory refuses to let them change it to something like Unity or UE4 etc.

That's fucking them over dearly. When your reputation precedes you, change it.

This game has an assured spot in my Goty list.
People who enjoy good narrative and atmosphere in gaming should not miss out.

Man, I am so close to capitulating and buying this game...

If I were not going to drop a stack of money on Guild Wars 2 soon...

We really have no data that could give us any kind of clue about how well gog games sell in comparison to steam (or in general). Are 30k to high? Probably. Still the game has an incredible word of mouth and it is the most popular game on GOG, but "just" number 6 on Steam. This has to be worth something.
It's almost impossible to speculate about it because there are so few data points. The only number I've ever seen is for Shovel Knight which has GOG at about 3% of the Steam numbers.

Just 3%? WOW
Yeah, as a GOG user it put into context why they are not a priority for bigger developers, although for smaller titles every sale probably counts.

I took the number from this report on them hitting 1M sales, by the way. As a comparison, the sales after a month were shifted slightly more towards Steam but it has been very stable over those two years (2.7% vs. 3.1%, the calculation error should round both to 3% although I haven't calculated it exactly. edit: both numbers are 2-4%, so indistinguishable).

That's really good isn't it?

Marketing wise, Sony really pushed this game. It was all over the front page of PSN the week it came out, they have main banner ads for it on their Youtube page, and just in general, they've given it a decent push through their conferences and what not over the past couple of years. And not that it's a sure-fire way of measuring a game's commercial success, but the number of star ratings it's received on PSN is quite high.

At a guess I'd say the game has done pretty damn well for itself thus far.

Ninja Theory right now

Very much deserved, excellent game.

The story and writing in particular are fantastic. And the visuals of course are super impressive.

Whoa, that's nice to see.

Again, saw their development diaries since day 1 as a fan of Ninja Theory, just finished the game last night and i'm so glad that this is turning out to be a story of success for them.

really happy for Ninja Theory. Have been following this game since day 1 and I'm really enjoying it. dont sleep on this one folks

I'm going to roll on the belief that "We've already got a fully working engine that suits our needs. Yes it might be buggy/not very performant, but hey, it's custom-made for what we want." Building a whole new engine/framework for your games takes a ton of work.

Excellent, don't stop. I started playing my PS4 copy yesterday and I love what I've played to this point (through first two trials). I expect I'll buy a PC copy primarily to reward Ninja Theory for what they've made.

I bought it on PS4 I think I'm about 1/2 way through, great game so far, I hope it continues to sell well, Ninja Theory deserves a big hit so they can keep making good games

Hurrah for quality mid budget productions and pricing.

You could seriously get Hellblade, Crash Bandicoot, and the new Uncharted for less than two $60 games.

It's almost like we back in the PS1 era boys!

If the game was made with only 12-15 max members than why does Telltale games still looks and plays like shit? what kind of excuse they have?

At this point I think we can safely say that Telltale lack the talent and competence that most other game developers have. Even a mid-tier dev like Ninja Theory runs circles around them for free.

I got hellblade (30) crash (found at 30) and new uncharted with season pass (20/25 I forgot ). All that for a random AAA deluxe edition. Happy me

because people will buy their games because it's a "telltale" game no matter how shit it is. they have no reason to employ more staff or spend more money if they are making so much money already. once their profits drop they'll try spending but it'll be too late.

And just like PC vs console sales number sit varies tremendously from game to game.

The Witcher 3 is at over 50% of sales coming from GOG, for obvious reasons.

I would think a game like this would appeal more to console gamers than PC gamers, but who knows.

Noice. Hopefully Hellblade laid out the groundwork for them using UE4 so there can be an even quicker turn around for their next project.
