Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice PC performance thread

Just set your desktop resolution to whatever you want, set the game resolution, restart the game and it will be fine.

You did not read my post. I have more than 10 games on my PC. I do not have the patience to change the resolution everytime i play this game and change it back to 1080p when done. It should work naturally with DSR. It does not and i think they're aware as i see a patch is coming.

Does anyone know know why I'm getting the exact same fps across 1656p, 1800p and 4k?

If it helps I'm running 1656p and 1800p in borderless and 4k in full screen.

All sitting around 40-50fps, mostly at 45-48.

Because as stated above the resolution settings are bugged atm, your settings aren't actually being applied. You need to change your desktop resolution for it to work for now.

Yeah.... it's a temporary measure. Still, I do it because the game's worth it and I won't play anything else until I beat Hellblade anyways (limited time for games and all).

It's clear the resolution settings are bugged. Crazy that they never tried DSR in testing.

EDIT: And now I've been to the steam discussions for this game. Christ, that place is cancer.

How do I set this up exactly?, just enable scaling in nvidia control panel?, any specific options / settings I should be applying?

Kind of an embarrassing question, but do you think the game would run decently on my old rig? FX 8350 + AMD 7870 + 8 GB Ram. Like, if I play on low settings, should I be able to achieve 30 fps at 1080p?

A 7870 at 1 GHz should be about as fast as a RX 560, more or less. 30 fps at a mix of medium-high settings should be possible. Just get the game on Steam and try it out. The 2h refund policy is there for a reason ;)

I'm surprised my PC is struggling to reach 60fps. With a 280X I'm stuck lowering the res to 900p and settings on high to get a high enough framerate.

I hover around 40-50fps very high settings on 2560x1080 and that seems to be even after going in the second fire region.
R9-290X

The games not really heavy on cpu so have you checked to see if your gpu is heat throttling?

So within 2 hours of playing the game my PC has completely shut down twice.
Should I turn down some settings or s/t, never had a game crash like that before.

It could be, I have no idea. GPU seems to be at 70c when I play this game. PC is really fucking loud. I'm not sure why either.

Does anyone know the PS4 Pro to PC graphics equivalent? I run 60 FPS well enough but I get drops and was wondering what the PS4 Pro was using for its 60 FPS mode?

Just an hour in so...

7700k @ 4.7 GHz
16 GB DDR 4 @ 3066 MHz
GTX 1080 @ 2063 MHz / 11000 MHz Vram

1440p, max settings, GOG version.

During normal ganeplay the game holds 60 fps. There are some random and very brief drops to the mid 50s from time to time though. CPU and GPU load isn't maxed or even high during those drops. I assume that it is somehow related to streaming in new game data, the game is already installed on a ssd so...

Cutscenes can drop down to high 40s. Not really a big deal imo, but worth mentioning.

Thank you! Didn't know the refund policy could be used for this kind of things. I mean, wouldn't be a problem for me to ask for a refund since the minimum requirements mention a RX 280 with 3 GB of vram?

Refunds that don't run afoul of either guideline are actually approved automatically. As long as you're not abusing the system to essentially score free games, you've nothing to worry about.

Just picked up the GOG version. runs well at max settings, but the fan on the radiator of my Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming GTX1080 Waterforce takes off like a Jet. I only have had that happen before on demanding games in 1620p or 4K DSR, this is at 1080p and I get 50-60 degrees on the GPU! I think this is the hottest my card has run, since I bought it. I don't know if it is the game or the latest Nvidia Drivers, but I am concerned.

I capped the FPS to 60 with Riva Tuner and it made no difference to the Jet Airliner in my Case. I would hate to have to drop the details because of heat when at max settings the framerate is great. Thats like getting a Ferarri and not driving it faster than 25Kmph.

I will have to do some research to see if the drivers are an issue. I bet if I revert the drivers the game will either perform bad or not start (I remember when Wolfenstein the new order came out and If I reverted the drivers to one before release date the game woudn't start and display an error telling me to use later drivers)

I will have to run a full monitoring software too, to make sure the CPU isn't overheating too. I just forked out on a Corsair H115i liquid cooler after the Noctua NH-L12 died due to heat damage on the cooling pipes.

50-60 degrees is nothing to worry about at all, my GPU can go up to 75 under max load and it doesn't concern me.

Also if it's loud you can use Afterburner to change the fan profile, you'll get less noise but the temps will go up.

Thanks for the replies. I find it odd that this is the only game (and I have hundreds of games on my rig, my steam drive alone is 8Tb) where I get a total Jet turbine in my rigs case, that's why I was concerned.

Running other games that are so demanding they are unplayable at 4K as a test made my GPU heat up to 45 degrees, and some of those struggled to maintain 30fps at 4k maxed out (I don't have a TitanXP as it's not available in Australia, and the GTX1080ti is on my wish list but after getting the 1080, the new PSU, and the new CPU cooler, I am in the poor house, hence me not wanting to even take a slight risk on my GTX1080's safety).

hopefully I don't have issues with it getting hotter. At least since my system is now on liquid cooling the air comes into the radiators from outside and straight to both the CPU and the GPU. When I was on air I had to take and leave the side panel off, and have dust issues or I would BSOD with CPU overheat. I have a Fractal Design Define XL-R2 full tower case and because of the high density lining of the case it became the Intel Space heater and it ended up with my old Noctua NH-L12 dying with severe heat damage on the cooling pipes.

Don't get this case unless you don't care about your rig becoming a hotbox. I thought the lining would be a quieter experience, instead I wresetled with heat until I went full liquid cooled.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease a bit about the temps. There is still some concern there in the back of my mind as other games don't come close to the same heat levels, but at least I'm not sh*tting enough bricks to build the Pyramids now.

EDIT: I had the power level set at 150% but the rest as stock +0 core +0 VRAM +0Voltage, on this game. On other games I OC the Core and VRAM and don't touch the voltage. I wonder if this game would perform like crap if the power limit was capped at 100%?

50-60 is really cool! Most people's PCs can't even reach that low when playing any game.

Why is this scene running like complete dogshit?
4Xqg8i7.png

No matter the resolution or the settings I set, it's stuck at low 20's. It's actually lower than it used to be before I thought maybe a drive upgrade might fix it LOL. Goddamn it PC gaming, you really suck sometimes. I wonder if the framerate on other games is lower as well. Same shit I experienced with my old 4670 I'm living it now with my 280X. Driver updates actually worsen performance.

The current AMD driver has a bug that seems to effect some of the R9 cards by locking them to 300mhz core clock and 150mhz mem clock,I am currently running 17.1.1 which I think is a few months old but does not slow the graphics card down.

If it's not that do you have any background tasks running?
Also if you run back out of that area does your fps pick up again?
Last of all what cpu are you running?

It's that area. I moved to another and the framerate improved. I have a 4670K. I rolled back to the previous drivers but I didn't get the framerate I used to have... I guess I'll have to use ccleaner or something.

I'm curious. My PC would run this ok (I'm actually playing it on PS4 Pro regardless).

However, I do have a friend who is tentatively interested in playing this...unfortunately he's stuck on a cheapy Lenovo laptop.

What are the lowest specs someone's gotten this game to run (under the minimums) and be at least somewhat playable. (say mostly 20 fps on all lowest settings). It's far from ideal (and some would claim that that frame rate is not playable).

Use Afterburner instead of fraps so you can actually see what your GPU & CPU are doing.

Both me and another person on here (also with AMD cards) have had that exact problem in that exact area. The bad news is, it probably won't get much better till the very end of the game. We both had to play for... probably like two hours or so with the framerate hovering around 20 FPS and even fight a boss at that framerate.

Anyone know if there's a way to disable the camera auto centering when you look up? Quite annoying.

Yeah, it seems like that camera control was meant for playing with a controller. Constantly picking up the mouse was getting old. I was surprised there wasn't an option for it. There's the injectable camera fix in the OP, and also a cheatengine table here: http://fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?t=4523
Just ignore the other options - click through Enable .2, [Scripts] and Disable Auto-Centre Cam.

I'm getting fairly stable 60 FPS at 4K now which has held through the different sections. Foliage, post processing and view effects are on low, then the rest can stay at very high. There's an obvious difference, but it's a decent compromise for the frame rate.
It's at about 90% GPU utilization with the OC reverted to stock GPU settings to avoid that stability issue.

So I'm assuming a 1060 6GB + I7 7700HQ@3.8Ghz should be fine in running this at 1080p/60? Just wanna know whether to buy it on PS4 now and deal with 900p or wait a month or two to buy it on the gaming laptop I'm getting.

OK, people on YouTube claim to be running at 80-90fps at native 4K on 1080 and 1080ti cards. I can't even get there using a Titan Xp so either they're doing something crazy with settings or exaggerating. I don't see how that's possible.

Are you turning view distance down? I was running vsync so no idea what fps I was getting, but view distance destroyed fps.

I can't get my DS4 to work with this game for some reason. Can someone tell me how to do it?

enable ds4 support in steam? or use ds4windows and hide the controller (and turn off any controller support in steam big picture mode).

Very likely the same mistake I made initially. Changing the resolution setting doesn't do anything when in fullscreen mode. So it's likely that they are really running the game at 1440p and simply can't tell the difference because of the game's post processing effects and anti-aliasing solution. It fooled me, and likely fooled them as well.

The fps are the dead giveaway that they are running at 1440p, because those are very similar to the fps I get on my PC (1080ti) at that resolution. 4K on my system runs anywhere from 37-55fps based on what I played at that res.

Y'all need to use RTSS, scaling of the OSD is always a dead giveaway what resolution you're currently running ;)

Getting a solid 4k30, but I decided to go to 1080p and while it *does* look like someone smeared Vaseline over my screen (as going back from 4k usually does), the *almost* solid 60 FPS more than makes up for it. Slightly annoyed that I'm getting some stuttering and drops to 45 though. Wonder if there's another setting I can play with? Maybe just turn off the AA altogether? *Shrug*

If I may ask, which GPU? And yeah, those stutters are common with Unreal Engine games. Happens even on consoles. It's due to data streaming.
