Helldivers |OT| Everybody Fights, Nobody Quits.

All about speed (cardio perk, for sure) and planning. you really need to use it in conjunction with the UAV, and you probably want at least 2 fully upgraded beacon slots on the team (10 beacons total). You should be dropping the first one away from objectives in isolated areas, popping a UAV to find a safe route and then looping around the enemy horde. It can take some practice but you'll eventually be able to go entire missions without seeing a single enemy (save for extraction sometimes).

Plan ahead. Drop zone should be away from everything else with a back route for the team to escape from, away from the beacon and towards the first objective. As long as you don't trap yourself in a corner and keep moving, you should be good.

Edit: I find some players don't like this strategy because it involves running in the opposite of objectives sometimes or ignoring an objective until you can lure the patrols away. This can be time consuming. Once in a while you might need to "reset" too, and people can get impatient.

I play like that pretty much, and will go a roundabout way to avoid patrols if I need to, but I stick with strategim priority. That always gives me enough cool down to throw a decoy either at every other objective or slightly between them. I'll let someone else throw the UAV, so I can keep ammo, recoilless and something to hold us down at the extract with. Recoilless is swappable for personal shield, rep-80, jump etc depending on race, planet and objectives.

...but you have to make serious time for that to work, before the 5 decoys are gone, if no one else brought any. I swear it's heaven playing with another decoy player who knows you're still in cool down.

I might try cardio solo sometime to get a feel for it. You're definitely right that "no, we gotta go this way" doesn't jibe with most players. I hate getting in screen pulling "negative" tug o' wars. Then you just have to go their way, knowing we have a slim chance of finishing from that point on.

EDIT: ran cardio, two decoys, and a combination of mech + nuke or 2 of each, with a new player on Suicide Mission planets and it worked out pretty well since capture points almost always fucked us over. The emergency run away speed really helped.

One person holds a re-enforce all the time. No way to fail the missions now.

Just wanted to confirm I tested this and it works.

Holding a respawn beacon (not throwing it) the beacon will activate when you die respawning (assuming you are last to die) the entire team (including you)

This opens up strategies such as

1. nuking your own team with a shredder if the point/extraction is being overun (call in shredder, pop a respawn beacon into your hand before shredder hits). Shredder takes out tanks ... I used this strategy to save my team from a wipe on a bad starting drop spot.

2. Having one guy be your dedicated team "respawn beacon guy" to get through difficult extractions/point captures -- downside of course being that you can't do anything else (although you could have the beacon holder wear a supply pack)

Great time with mcz2345 and nicolajNN! Those are not your GAF names I suppose?

The neverending onslaught of Cyborg heavies and tanks was so fun and we made it!

Edit: fixed strange phone typos

I want to get the game now just to 1) play with the active GAF community 2) get on that launch discount *but* I would only be able to play on Vita.

Worth it? The Vita version has got some issues, right?

Hmmm. Right now, A few people seem to be having connection issues, and EU regions don't have the latest patch. Recently seen a sharp drop in online activity for me (Eu region). There seems to be an issue that affects PS4/3/Vita is not being able to cross play online. People have reported being unable to join games if on a different console. This isn't good for the number of Vita players. Future patch (1.03 I think) is supposed to fix the issue.

As for Vita playability. The issues are not as disastrous as many were led to believe. Inputs include back touch swiping (which takes some getting used to), but the controls are responsive. Downgraded visuals should definitely be expected. Game play is smooth 90% of the time, and only slows down when there are tons of things going on. Happened only once for me so far and the slowdown lasted for about 5 seconds before recovering. Game is perfectly playable and FUN!

Edit: Also, quote the OP for google doc list of players and regions and timezones. That's teh active community right there.

One moment I'm killing a teammate by accident and die three times in a row due to stupidity, the next moment I'm throwing a Reinforce strategem between me as only survivor and a chasing tank bug, reviving my 3 teammates and killing the tank with the reinforcement drops...

This game is awesome.

Game changer

I wish the PS4 Share feature didn't require you to exit out ot the XMB for 20+ seconds to edit the video. It would be nice to just hit Share as "save the last 15 seconds of video but let me keep playing". As it stands, it's really hard to record miraculous survivals, because you'll just die after you record.

Game changer

I think its most useful (to the point of being broken) for extraction and capture points.

You help with the defense as you normally would but if things are going south you pop the beacon (dont throw it) and just make sure you are the last person to die. I already used this strategy on a suicide map in conjunction with a shredder (nuke) to get rid of all tanks and infantry that were swarming our drop in point. We went on to win the mission in what would normally have been a team wipe for certain.

Yeah, I got the game and the controls seem adequate. Only thing I dislike is the left swipe for grenades. Game definitely seems quite challenging.

Also, I added myself to the doc, thanks! Looking forward to playing with GAF.

Added myself to the NA list. I have off until friday so i got a lot of game time on my hands currently. I'm level 11 I believe.

Looking to get it in with some gaffers

FUCK THIS GAME!!!

It is just not working today. After trying to connect for nearly an hour and always getting a failure, I then get a lost connection in a game. The next game after waiting to join ends with the game crashing right when the shuttle arrives. Meanwhile, I couldn't even play alone because of some weird bug, I couldn't enter my hellpod.
And this all after I already couldn't play in the afternoon. Something is really wrong today.

Game was running perfectly fine for me and now they patched it to death.

Finally bit the bullet and bought this today. I'm having a lot of fun playing solo while I learn the ropes (except for a couple of guys that joined me mid-mission on PS3, I didn't know that was a thing but it's pretty cool. I'm playing mostly on Vita now, and since cross save is broken, that will be it for now I guess. Couple questions:
1) There is no way at all to force the Vita to upload the cross-save, right?
2) Is there any way to mute one's own mic on the Vita?

It's great in general for people to just know that as long as they get the respawn in their hands when they're dying, it will drop on death and revive people. So many times I've played with someone and the last person alive is getting melee'd, then doing their crawl trying to shoot or get themselves up instead of putting in the respawn code... all the "no! just revive us! it'll work!" into the mic never gets through in time.

Couple questions:
1) There is no way at all to force the Vita to upload the cross-save, right?
2) Is there any way to mute one's own mic on the Vita?

1.) the only way I know how to force upload is to go to a mission, then abandon/fail immediately to trigger the skull/saving icon when you return to the ship, and make sure you wait for it to finish

2.) hold your PS button until the wifi/airplane/brightness etc options come up, and thumb the page down to the audio options right below, where you'll see "Disable Microphone"

You can turn off auto-joining from randoms by switching matchmaking to friends or private in the pause menu. Conversely, you can call in help during a mission by setting matchmaking to public and calling in an SOS beacon stratagem in-game. This sometimes works, but matchmaking (and the game in general) can still be a bit buggy at times.

Found a great group last night, cleared a level 11 and a 12 cyborg planets, we unlocked Shredder missiles and then went for the tank, since a couple of us didn't have it.

Guy kept dropping Shredders without saying anything until the countdown was ticking. All in good fun, tho, we lol'd at the accidentals. The explosion is about the size of an entire screen, and the lvl 3 warning siren is broken.

Yep, I noticed about the settings right after I had people join me. For the moment I set it to Private while I git gud. :) I do realize some skills cam only be practiced in multi, like, well, not shooting people. :)

tried 6, 7, 10 and 12. nothing.

I can get a bug tank to spawn in a second after I alert a patrol on lvl 10s.

Already got the bug tank cheevo. All you need are noob teammates without antiarmour and a railgun.

I did this. All in the name of democracy!!

So how does this work if I don't have a friends list to play with? Do I just get paired up with someone? I usually don't like playing online but I do like this style of gameplay.

Are eurobros still stuck on 1.01? I'm too lazy to go through the NA list. There are way too many of them and there's no way to add friends from some form of website.

At least I have my vita for more convenient friend-adding lol

Also arrowhead should start a short community event when EU and Asia can reasonably play, but not NA. I want to see the bug community progress bar reset and see how that works lol.

First post I think on NeoGaf, just added my name to the speadsheet list. Had good times with randoms, but would love to get into some teams for even more fun.

And yes, stupid/funny/"accidental" deaths make me laugh. I will apologize if it's my fault, but I will do so laughing (most likely).

As frantic as things get, this game just does not make me rage :)

I just got this game (loving it so far) BUT I have a problem whenever I use a Machine Gun stratagem.

Autofire seems to be completely broken for me. My Liberator only fires one shot, and the machine gun doesn't fire at all.

Reading up they say it's my controller (others as well). Just want to double check because I've not encountered any real issues in other games.

To my DGAF brethren - my gun should be SUROS but it goes to MIDA and dat aint ok.

Tried to play with a buddy last night and couldn't join a single game. Not a great first impression.

Ended up putting it down and playing God Eater. Any word on when that's getting fixed? I'll probably avoid playing the game until then.

You've got launch controller problems. The R2 trigger isn't completely actuating the button.

Solution1 : Wait for patch
Solution2 : Buy new controller
Solution3: Open controller place piece of paper infont of R2 trigger button (what I did)

I"m still at 1.01 :-( and it's the 11th now

Game is really fucking with me. Now I can finally play with a team and after we wipe for quite some times we finally manage to do the mission. Only problem is, the objective doesn't finish for me but did for everyone else, which means we can't extract.

So first, I can't play. Then, disconnects and crashes. At last, game gets bugged.
