help drinky purchase a third-tier gaming console: wii or ps3?

Get a Wii, Drinky Cow. Come on, think about it like this; once you get a Wii, you can troll it freely. Note the added bonus of being able to shut up Junior Members, like me, with a simple phrase: "Shut up, I own one."

Imagine! Legions of Nintendo fans rendered helpless! At your mercy! Do it, Drinky Cow. You want to do it, deep down inside. Search yourself, you know it to be true.

You can also sell that Wii for 500$ and buy yourself a PS3. Take a photo of the Wii so you can pretend you still have it when posting.

Also, he'll always be Drinky Cow to me.

If you can spend $600 on a "third-tier" system then you should probably put that money to better use, like in an IRA so that you can afford all of the systems next time around.

If you already own a 360, then the Wii makes more sense.

PS3 will make a lot more sense later.

Drinky, you know that deep down inside you want, nay, you need a Wii.

Personally, I think it makes much more sense to own a Wii and a 360 than a PS3 and a 360, but thats just me.

Well, he's not technically wrong, future PS3 releases notwithstanding. Better multiplatform games, and at least comparable exclusives.

His statement was sub-hardware performance ... not sub-software. That is most certainly 'technically' wrong, as at best, it is presently unknown.

The majority of multiplatform titles you're referring to are obviously a ridiculous barometer. 360 was the lead platform for most, coupled with the titles being 1st gen PS3 development endeavors, coupled with the PS3 being harder to develop for.

Considering there have been PS3 exclusive titles demoed that are doing things no 360 game has been shown to do ... there is no 'technical' basis for such a statement.

as a strong PS3 supporter and a big fan of future games like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Tekken 6, Hot Shots 5, Gundam Musou, Deveil May Cry, Ratchet, Uncharted.

These games will be great no doubt but I can't help but get a samey feeling from most of them. Of course Little Big Planet is a one huge exception and I think we'll be seeing more unique PS3 games like that coming from Japan that really seal the deal.
Once that happens and the PS3 price is around $299, it will be a no brainer.

Right now I still happen to be in favor of the Wii.

Maybe I'm suffer from the case where grass is always greener since I dont have a Wii but from where I stand, that console looks more appealing that the others right now just because it's something different.

Come on, Drinky, get a Wii. I want to be able to box your Mii character.

(In all fairness, I am the crazed Sony/MS hating zealot and Mario/Zelda fan, so you might need to take my opinions with a grain of salt; however, I do think there is plenty on the Wii you will enjoy.. Super Mario Galaxy was great at e3, with next to know motion controls at all...)

i have been putting off the purchase of either of these two consoles because the pc and, secondarily, the 360 and the ps2 generally satisfy all my ass-in-chair gaming needs.

soon, i shall be in possession of a massive tax return because i am an asshole capitalist and honestly, i'm probably a bit better than you in any way that matters. therefore, in the interest of fostering an egalitarian sense of community, i'm going to allow this forum to shape my purchasing decision.

here are the pluses and minuses for each system, as i see it:

ps3
+ is an actual next-gen system
+ has a decent suite of forthcoming big-budget exclusives that actually resemble, y'know, real games
+ sony seems aggressive in pushing software first and hardware second from a business perspective
+ i don't really wanna miss out on ps2 backwards compatibility
+ litte big planet

- $599
- sub-360 hardware performance
- waggle over rumble
- HOME: wtf

wii
+ will inevitably be a mainstream success and therefore host geeky b-grade niche strategy rpgs and shmups
+ super paper mario
+ tg-16 games
+ $250

- is not a real next-gen system; i already own a gamecube
- waggle controls
- no acceptable online experience
- mii faggotry
- old people might try to play it and thus permeate my living room with the scent of urine and cough syrup

please do not attempt to contradict these points. as oscar wilde once said before ejaculating all over a trucker's hairy back: "a truth ceases to be a truth once two people perceive it." these are truths. they are not for you to perceive.

now, vote.

Based on the info given above, I think you would enjoy the PS3 the most. It is the rebelious choice, afterall.

it's been said before but...

ps3 if you want to buy a console for your own entertainment.

wii if you want to buy a console for GAF's entertainment.

I think the choice is obvious. Drinky hates both Wii and PS3, or at least thinks of them as subpar. If he buys a Wii, Nintendo makes profit. If he buys a PS3, Sony loses money. So, since he should want a company who makes a console he hates to lose money instead of profiting, he should buy a PS3.

TO SOME? Are you kidding me? I think you're funny most of the time, Drinky, but this isn't funny at all. It's terribly, terribly lame.

I'm not even going to get started on everything that's wrong with what you said. But it's ****ing disgusting.
dude, get over yourself :lol

Get over yourself? Yeah, sweet, get over people having no problem saying one of the most insulting words to me and one of the most offensive words in the english language.

If you don't own a Wii, your trolling credibility will be severely diminished. Just do what Ami did. :p

edit: unless you also want to troll the ps3... in which case...I don't even know...
Maybe you wanna play wii with your daughter? Though if you're a responsible parent, you'll make her play outside so she doesn't become a nerd.

Ok, apparently no one has pulled you aside yet and broken the news to you... but this is GAF. You don't get to pick and choose what offends you. If Denis Dyack can suffer through the fat ass jokes, then accepting the random mii faggotry from Drinky should be a breeze. :)

If we start catering to everyone, then that means no more buddy christ avatars... and that would make many people very sad.

Glad somebody finally said it.

While he may have said it a little strongly, I'll agree that the whole mii thing is a little tooty fruity for me.

If my parents were to swing by my place and catch me having a mii parade... jesus....
I don't know if I could look my father in the eye.

I can't be alone here?

It doesn't matter where it is. There are some things you just DON'T say because of how offensive they are. And, to me, there is almost no other word like that one. None.

PS3!! Gundamn Musou!!! Chinese people in big mech suits!! WOOO

It seems pointless to even participate, but I have to say, the PS3 & 360 seem pretty interchangable to me. If you didn't already have a 360, I'd say a PS3, but since you do, Wii is the way to go. Otherwise you're just going to end up playing all the same, or similar, games all the time.

Unless, of course, you don't actually want something different, in which case PS3 is the only option.

this might make for an interesting thread, but I can't figure a way of posting it without it begging for a banning...

" How many people are comfortable with playing with Mii's on their Wii's? How many are embarrassed? "

For your sake, I hope you're kidding.

That's pathetic.

Mii's are definitely cartoony looking, but "tooty fruity"? Shouldn't you be more ashamed for using those words together instead?

A huge deal breaker right now on Wii is the lack of online support. The game library is fairly strong, considering how early in release we are, but no online means no friends to share it with.

Again, if you have a 360, you're getting your online. HOME isn't coming until Octoberish, and there really aren't any marquee titles coming to the PS3 for me anytime soon.

If you're THAT insecure about yourself, you have more problems than you probably care to talk about.

save your money for all the really awesome upcoming games and get a PS3 and a Wii when it gets a few more good games.

my Wii just sits all lonely until someone new comes over, then its a bit of a laugh watching them play. Resistance and Motorstorm are cool, but not worth the initial investment.

No, I'm sure there are heaps of insecure closet homosexuals who post on GAF.

I think the whole Mii combineded with the sound effects of the wii, just feel a little too childish for me. I am not comfortable fooling with it as I just feel a little too nerdy (tooty-fruity, playing for the pink team, childish, whatever)..

Whatever it is, it's my insecuirity, and I'm perfectly fine with being a bit of a hater.
