I feel your pain, OP. My grandparents are the exact same way. We live in a southern state as well.

They have been "conservative" for their whole lives. Its how they've been told to believe and how to vote by their friends, their family, and the constant stream of "news" 24/7. It is indoctrination.

Whenever I hear them talk about politics it is so dreadful. They just repeat whatever the radio or Fox tells them with little to none of their own intellect or judgment.

Iraq was authorized based on intelligence that was known to be false. Intelligence that was demonstrably false based off of international inspections.

It's not the same thing as a blanket authorization of force against anyone who fits a certain set of criteria.

Also, we're talking about strikes on localized cells versus invading an entire country. The scale of the activities is completely different, and to invade a country off of a lie takes the worst kind of intelligence fuck up you can imagine at best (or completely different intentions at worse)

She's a bit of a loon anyway. Kind of a radical Christian conservative who only came up with her views through blind belief and indoctrination. She believes in demon possession and UFOs. She doesn't believe that gays should be able to marry (and one time she even gave me the "I have a gay friend" defense), and is pro-life, and at one point even said that women are supposed to submit to men (based on what it says in the Bible). On top of this she believes that Obama is a Muslim terrorist that wants to take over the country.

It'd just be nice to offer her some source of direct, factual, and easy-to-understand information in regards to our President, even if it doesn't work. I'm just sick of getting shit for voting for Obama, when I did it with a level head while she voted for Romney with a backing of all these crazy beliefs she has and all this distorted reality.
