+1 on Bottom. Such an avant garde sitcom. Predating what would become South Park (really not to do humour, in the dirty way). In fact, I was watching it last year and oh god, there's some seriuos issues there.

Ok uk folk would you know this show it was shown like at the beginning of E4's birth it was called the something debate and all it was, was a bunch of people getting drunk and talking about shit.

Can anyone help me?

maximum respect for the amount of Black Books, Partridge and Chris Morris love. Since none of you have supplied me with any new interesting nuggets might as well just list other comedies that must be obeyed:

Peep Show

The lives of flatmates Mark (office worker, prude) and Jez (layabout, hippy, 'sexer'). Such a brilliant comedy. Feels very real yet utterly hilarious. Brilliant characters and look at culture.

The Mighty Boosh

Balls to the wall madness, very surreal yet excellent comedy following the chaotic adventures of Vince Noir and Howard Moon. 1st series is set in a zoo, the second see's them go all over the place. very recommended!

Extra's

Slow burner, Ricky Gervais latest sitcom about 2 extras in shows and movies. but the Patrick Stuart scene is worth admission alone.

Also none of you have reacted to Darkplace in any way >:|

P.S. First season only, though.

Season 1 was with the original friend and friend's gf right? I loved that show, it was great.

I also have to nominate Arrested Development simply because it's the best show that no one ever watched. Weeds is another good one.

Season 1 had Harry Enfield as the flatmate instead of Neil Morrissey, and it was on ITV in the UK.

Luckett: Darkplace is great. Scotch mist and the one eyed creature episodes spring to mind. Also I seem to remember a song, 'one track lover' was it? overall good spoof on 80's TV. There was a save the darkplace website where garth actually posted a few times, it's great to see that a DVD will finally be released.

Boosh deserves some props, particularly the coconut heads episode, very surreal and a bit like their salvador dali special with stephen fry, dunno whether you've seen that...they're also good live. Whilst we're on the subject of Barratt and Fielding, they starred in a series called Nathan Barley which was okay, a bit hit and miss, but with some classic moments.

Mentions should go to Spaced too, some funny moments like the fake gunfight, comic shop scene and the robot wars episode. Pegg and Frost also did a 30 minute special on zombies which was pretty good.

Having said all that, nothing will beat The Day Today, Jam and Brass Eye.

It isn't necessarily a straight comedy, but it is easily one of the best shows ever. The first season is brilliant. It may look like teen pap, but it is way deeper and very biting.

They've been mentioned already, but:

Peep Show: simple but clever concept, very funny characters

Monkey dust: hit and miss but devastatingly brilliant when on form

After Dark

On the comedy front, besides those already mentioned I recommend:

Big Train

Both of course featuring The Actor Kevin Eldon.
