The mound is a weird feeling for even competent baseball throwers during warm up practice.

That bad dart-like throw It is a common theme of a lot of people with no background in baseball.

Baseball you throw by using all the body moving and ripping your arm via the shoulder forward.
You unconsciously do the release and adjustments of location with forearm, wrist and fingers.

If you don't grow up with baseball and make the 1000s of throws you are boned. Even if you are a good athlete.

60 feet isn't exactly a short distance so when some people try to increase the power on the throw they lose control. Add to that the pressure of having thousands watching you and I can understand some people messing it up.
