Here's to the healers

Scholar in FFXIV is so fun. They're primarily a shell healer so you're trying to anticipate damage as opposed to reacting to it. They also have a pet to manage which takes some getting used to, but is great once you master it.

You also get to mash Lustrate like your raid depends on it (because it does).

That's why I got into Overwatch tbh...the healers were fun. I like chilling out and Mercy'ing it up.

Also Tracer is so much fun

I've been playing a Scholar in FFXIV and it's a lot of fun. Doing DPS before was just the same rotation on every enemy but now I'm flipping between DPS and healing different people and its more to keep track of, but also much more active.

In the few multiplayer games I played, I've always enjoyed the support classes the most. In TF2 I loved Engineer and Medic, but mostly Engineer. Now that I play Overwatch though, I play support 90% of the time with Lucio being my homeboi and Ana a close 2nd. Some describe it as boring, but I enjoy the healy heroes in Overwatch a lot.

And here's to the fools, who heal
Crazy, I get the appeal
Here's to the health
they mend
Here's to support
they lend

I trace it all back, to them
Medic, Lucio, and Shaman
Smiling through it
I'll say, I'd do it
Again

You're welcome.

I even played Dragon Age as a healer lol. Not 2 and Inquisition tho >_>

I like big heals
and I can not lie
you other players can't deny
when your health gets down
to an itty bitty space
and they stick a big heal in your face

you get sprung!

Tanking in Final Fantasy XIV was my main gig but White Mage is slowly rising to be my new favorite. Something fascinatingly new to me about worrying more that my teammates (specifically my tank) are alive and leaving to them the woes of dealing with enemy HP. Plus there's some really awesome looking armor, especially the High Allagan Set I'll probably never get rid of.

Same, I usually use Lucio or Zenyatta in overwatch, in competitive almost always. Hmm, assault is what I usually play in Battlefield too.

It's weird tho cause Hanzo is my most used character in quick play >_>

Lucio, Zenyatta, Zarya and Roadhog are the next highest I think.

Hah, yes, I always enjoy this one.

Anyways I enjoy healing as well. Back in the Cataclysm era of WoW, I made a name for myself in my guild's raids for healing without add-ons (it felt like every other week some add-on or another was having security issues, so I just didn't want to use them), as a Resto Shaman specifically. I did shelve that alt for a long time but I've since dusted it off again in Legion and I'm still happy with it.

I want to try and get used to Disc Priest healing as well, since that has that whole damage-to-heal thing, but I can't get it down pat.

My main in competitive is Zenyatta and that's probably because at least I can somewhat defend myself when my dumbass teammates forget to defend me. I love when I die and they all prompt the "I need healing" voice command. I want to scream "why do you all think you need healing!?! Because I'm dead and none of you bothered to protect me." The worst is when I play Mercy. I've had tanks straight up leave me to deal with the enemy's Zarya on my own while they fly off to do God knows what. And the best is at the end of the match when my card is up there with over 12k healing and I hear "wow, that other team's mercy was so good." YOU MOTHER ********!!!!!!

/rant.

my favorite healers in gaming are the ones that don't let me die because i'm not going to heal i just want to hit stuff

I quit playing healer after a really bad experience with a useless tank who didn't understand the mission we were playing (game in question was Guild Wars 1) and preferred to rage at me every time he died rather than continue. And to make things worse, everyone else on the team sided with this idiot!

I relegated my Monk to Jade Quarry permanently where, ironically, I still do play healer from time to time. Never again in PvE though!

So yes, here's to the healers with a thicker skin than me. :(

As someone who likes playing healer, I want to take a moment and thank all the Tanks and DPS players who turn around when I say I need help against a flanker. Cheers, mates!

A handy phrase to remember when a crap group blames you, as a healer, for not keeping them alive even though none of them even tried to avoid strong attacks and had no idea how to face a boss or manage aggro but instead just spammed attacks:

It's not that "You can't heal, stupid." It's that you can't heal stupid.

Medicing the shit out of it in Bf1. Good fun. You usually get to kill the would be murderer of the person you are reviving first too.

Boy do I get annoyed at those "hold x to skip" feckers though.

Honourable mention for that Monk guy in Shining Force 2. Cast that healing spell that healed all party members no matter where they were. Was awesome as the camera switched between all the team rapidly.

Yeah, people that don't ever play support / healer assume its a passive role whose job it is to do what they're told, when the reality is healers / supports are usually more of a command role whose actual job is maintaining a strategic overview of how the teams going, choosing which maneuvres to back and which are going to fail and not worth saving, and setting the pace of encounters.

i always, always love playing healing / support

but my god, is it a pain in public games. BF4 was the worst I've ever experienced the healer slander.

People would actively request heals but would never take the time to just sit and get healed 100% (yeah, med-kits had an AOE, but this didn't give full heals), and when they realize they died from a half-assed heal in the middle of a fire fight that not one medic wants to jump into, many just go off at people, claiming they're just absolute shit at support

maybe just slow down and get your heals, we're trying to help you

As someone who just recently started playing healers (thanks for my new found love for healing in Overwatch) in WOW/FFXIV over the last year i learned quickly that it's just as important to have good DPS/Tanks.

Nothing is more infuriating than wiping because of the Tank and/or DPS and then they turn around and blame you the healer knowing goddamn well they were to blame. Sons of bitches.

I enjoy much of support roles, particularly engineer types before, through now i have expanded more into other roles.

I pretty much look at roles that have passive/group support usually, so something like Lucio has more appeal to me much more than say Mercy. Hunting Horn is one of my top weapons to use in the Monster Hunter series too, while I have worked on quite a few support like builds in Guild Wars 2.

Amen. Stressful job. But I gravitate toward it in many games. Played a holy paladin then a holy priest for most of my 12 years in WoW. And now I tend to favour healers in Overwatch too.

It's usually one of the first things I'll try in any new multiplayer game. I like to feel useful to my team and tend to have a knack for effective triage.

I've always been drawn to healing classes, but never played a game where I could be one until Overwatch. Before that I always just favored them in JRPGs and stuff. I'm getting into FF14 for the first time this weekend (downloading now!) and am thinking about trying out a healing class.

I like the design of brightwing (havent played much since beta though) in Heroes of the storm,
A healer with 15 or 30 sec cooldown global teleport to 1 of your allies, that basicly have hex, blink heal, and can give your teammate a shield that also gives them a movementspeed buf, back then you could basicly almost be present on helping all 3 lanes and switching back and forth when needed, and still do some cool plays, even though it had like no dmg output.

To many its seen as the "boring job" but I have a weird fascination about trying to keep people alive and I find that I tend to gravitate towards those classes in games. I used to play a Restoration Druid in World of Warcraft and right now, my favorite is Ana from Overwatch, which combines two great things. Sniping and healing.

What are you favorite healers in gaming?

I had quite a lot of fun with a Cleric in EQ, but as an alt. However, I ended up going from my Monk to a Shaman for my main, and enjoyed it quite a lot more. There was just something about being able to run myself low on mana, and then using Cannibalize 5 to swap huge chunks of health for mana. Never really got into healers much in WoW aside from playing an alt Priest in vanilla. Couldn't ever really get into play a Druid however. I just ended up being too invested in playing a damage dealing Warrior.

Now those are fucking graphics.

I thought the updated models were pretty decent though.

Support is my favorite role for a long time since i started playing mobas.

Now with Overwatch in competitive i am the support of my team, Lucio and Zenyatta being my mains

Some say its a boring role but i disagree, to me its really fun if its done right

Healing doesn't always have to be boring.

Anyone who has played Heroes of the Storm lately knows Auriel is an exciting healer who becomes a massive playmaker in her own right.

I opened this thread and didn't expect to see any HotS references, but alas there was one, and it was the best choice.

I used to love playing a straight healer Monk/Mesmer in Guild Wars 1, especially in Alliance Battles. My 4 man crew would roll from point to point raining destruction on fools while I kept everybody in peak health.

Then when I got bored and wanted to ruin everyone's day, I would swap to Monk/Warrior and go straight 55 Prot Monk and be utterly unkillable in the Random Arenas, tanking 4v1 for about 15 minutes until everyone rage quit.

I exclusively play healer in most games. In souls games I tend to make 2 characters, one offensive based character for single player, an online healer for co-op and helping friends. In overwatch I main Lucio because I can heal and fight at once, I never liked medic though in tf2, that was an exception.

Monk from Guild Wars 1.
By far my favorite healing class, the skills were so interesting, you had up to 150 monk skills and could combine with other classes, the builds could be so varied and interesting. Shame they were scraped in GW2.

Healing as a playstyle is always interesting for me, but it has to be in multiplayer to be engaging. Not that fun in single player.
