blitz64 said:Now is the best time to learn dota with all these new dota clones coming out. playing these are similar to playing an mmorpg so you won't know which one you like until you played one of them for many hours. I hate when people play just 3 games of HoN/LoL and then goes to bash them.
All of them are great and most ppl pick the one their friends are playing. HoN is the hardest to learn but worth it once you get the hang of it. pm me for a key.
Previews for this game are starting to show up on a few gaming websites:

The balance issues present in the wide array of characters are only going to get ironed out, and the fact there was only one map present in the game in this state obviously limits the options on how to play it, as everyone gets used to its paths and secrets.
You've got it backwards, it's not feeding that powers swift up, it's the poste haste+ rune axe. The kills are a result of him out leveling everyone as a result of the super efficient creep killing. One creep wave = more gold than a hero and about half as much exp. It's not too hard to fathom him killing two creep waves every forty seconds. That would give him 1200exp(more than a hero) and 700 gold(twice that of a hero) and enough time to post haste towards the next creep wave. It's also insanely convenient that everyone avoids him because they're so scared of him leaving him to grind as many creeps as he desires.Halycon said:PSA: For the love of god, stop feeding Swift. Post Haste into Runed Axe should never be a game winning strategy.
STOP FEEDING HIM.

ACE 1991 said:I've been reading up some impressions from the beta seeing as the NDA has been lifted. From what I gather, it seems HoL has an impressively steep learning curve, given the hardcore community and complexity of the game.
Davidion said:Do you mean HoN or LoL? :lol
HoN is one of the only games I've played recently where teamwork isn't just preferable, but absolutely required. It's that mindset that I've had trouble getting used to, nevermind the depth and complexity of the heroes, items, and all the potential synergy between them. All those self-sufficient qualities that you can get away with in a FPS game will get you, and consequentially your team, murdered. I'm great for making that comment since I'm probably one of the least experienced and skilled of the active GAF players right now and I've done that more times than I can count.
It's a great game that I want to play, but am hesitant to because I'm not good at it and that fact ends up screwing your teammates. I'd at least give it a shot if I were you; the hard won battles are more satisfying, after all.
ACE 1991 said:Right. I like that focus on teamwork, I'm definitely going to give this one a try. Also, how many people are usually logged on during peak times?
EDIT: Also, do you guys also recommending giving LoL a try?
Troblin said:You should try the new Tidehunter(Kraken). He's considered relatively weak by the HON community, but he has some unique, albeit hard to use skills. I single handedly won a game w/ a couple friends the other day w/ some insane pulls with his ultimate. (Its like going fishing.)
Ferrio said:I hated him, he's not a tidehunter at all... not even close. He lost two of the skills that made him tide hunter.
Ferrio said:I'm hoping for some more str characters that I like.... come on dragon knight.
Troblin said:He's definitely not as easy to use as before. Without his Kraken Shell(aka creep damage immunity) and 2 sec screen-wide stun, he's a lot more vulnerable.
IMO his new ultimate is nearly as good, just takes a lot more skill to use. There's nothing like turning a 5 person opponent push into a 5v2 gank for your teamates.
I'd say give him another shot. He's probably my favorite hero.
UI needs polish (night and day from HoN), slower paced, more newbie friendly, better community.TheExodu5 said:I should probably have tried LoL out first though. How is it?
I was disappointed to learn his ult doesn't work with Post Haste.Ferrio said:I really liked Kraken Shell. Would plop down a vanguard and walk around like I owned the place.
His new skill seem so much more int like.

They need an easier way to tell you what heroes the enemies have yeah.TheExodu5 said:Ahh okay good to know.
The interface in HoN is honest to god near perfect from what I can tell. My only complaint is I have trouble picking out enemy heroes, but that's partially because I'm colorblind and the red outline isn't that obvious to me.
As for the community...I've only played 1 game so far (though labeled a newbie game), but the people there were real friendly and helpful.
I picked a random hero and ended up on Swift. He seems pretty easy to play so I think I'll stick with him for a while.
wow, the video on the main page looked totally awesome.GhostRidah said:
yep, it's done really well. LoL's is simply downright broken in some parts.TheExodu5 said:The interface in HoN is honest to god near perfect from what I can tell.

TheExodu5 said:Well I'm just going to try to stick to newbie labeled games for the moment. Games can be labeled for pros for a reason.
I'll report if I have any bad run-ins with the community.
I have to just express my enthusiasm again though. I have never in my life seen an interface and netcode so perfect in beta (after launch, even). The menu, the chat, the stats, the hero selection, the shops (omg stash!), the level-ups, the control customization. With the support S2's given Savage 2, I just know this is going to be a good game.

What time does this usually occur?EviLore said:Warming up to it a little after playing that GAFer game today. Tre explained some of the stat mechanics and I have a better grasp of what's going on now. Also went 10-3-15, which surprised the hell out of me since it was my third ever match.
Still mainly gonna play LoL, but I'll try to jump in on some gaf matches here and there.

Its true LoL isn't doesn't have the technical strengths of HoN, but I think it has the clear edge in freshness. Every hero in there is completely new and unique, and as a 4+ year dota veteran, I'm simply done with the same map, same heroes, same mechanics, same strats, same items. I feel like the technical things arent anything to worry about, as time will fix them (they actually just redid the entire chat system and wiped our lists! Havent got a chance to check it out yet though)Atrophis said:I had my first try of LoL last night and the whole game is embarrising when compared to this.
The UI, the menu, the art style, level of polish, bugs. It loses at all of these. You dont get a server browser but have to wait in a matchmaking queue (and will then put you in with level 30 summoners). Dont even talk about the loading :lol
Im gonna give it a few more games as im sure theres a good game in there trying to get out, but its hard to get past the fact that it feels like an amateur flash game.
HoN really does spoil you![]()
