Following yesterday's report from Variety that a game based on NBC's hit drama Heroes would be announced this weekend at Comic-Con, Ubisoft has confirmed the deal, releasing an announcement this morning.
"We are very excited to be making the Heroes video game with Ubisoft," said Tim Kring, creator and executive producer of the show. "Time and again, Ubisoft has proven they can turn licensed properties into fantastic games."
The Hollywood Reporter revealed a few scant details about the deal this morning, claiming that the as-yet-untitled adaptation is headed to next-generation consoles and PCs as early as fall of next year. Expected to be a third-person action/adventure title, the Heroes game will feature the entire ensemble cast, rather than focus on just a handful of prominent characters.
"From Day 1 we've all been thinking about the game," said Heroes co-executive producer Jesse Alexander. "All along we've been writing some of our stories in ways they can tie into the eventual video game."
Though it will be linked to and based on the television series, the Heroes game is not expected to tie into any particular season or story arc, as doing so may limit the games relevance and force Ubisoft to set a hard deadline to match up with said episodes/season. "We want it to have a lasting shelf-life and tell a distinctive story that gives you enhanced insight into the entire franchise," said Alexander.
Additional details may come out of the Heroes Q&A session at Comic-Con on Saturday, which will feature Kring and the entire cast from the first season.
