hershey's chocolate tastes like shit

You must have one of those genes that makes cilantro taste like soap and artificial sweeteners taste bitter. It also makes hershey's taste like vomit

I remember when they changed their formula. I loved Hershey as a kid, then one day I popped a Hershey bar into my mouth and actually spit it back out. I honestly thought I'd bitten into a bad chocolate bar, but the whole bag was the same, and every regular Hershey bar afterwards. Their premium stuff is still good, but standard Hershey bars are pretty gross. If I want to eat cheap chocolate, I'll go with Nestle. If I want good chocolate, I'll take Dove, or Cadbury, or Ghirardelli.

What a unique take that I haven't heard here a billion times in every chocolate thread.

"Hershey's sucks compared to real chocolate" and "don't buy chain pizza when you can buy local" are like the "PC gaming is way better than consoles" and "Nintendo should just go third-party" of FoodGAF

I've got absolutely no love for Hershey's products, but I'm not gonna get upset at a company that manages to make cheap chocolate for those who could rarely eat it otherwise. Plenty of amazing quality American chocolate brands available for those of us who want something better.

Hershey's tastes like fucking battery acid.
I'm partial to Dove Milk Chocolate or Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel myself but Oreo Milka is some good stuff too.

Yeah, it's not the best, but it is really good in Kiss form and with Almonds. Those are the two ways I like it. Also the Almond and Toffee version of their Symphony bar is terrific.

Agreed. Goodbar, Symphony, and Cookies & Cream are all quite good. Their plain milk chocolate is horrible.
And the special dark nuggets with almonds and toffee. The dark chocolate nuggets with almonds are better than the milk chocolate bars with almonds. Cookies & cream is probably the best thing they have, though.

They are mad that it is so iconic. It is to chocolate what McDonald's is to hamburgers.

in the UK cadbury's is the equivalent of mcdonald's. and it's good! and i don't even really hate mcdonalds!

hershey's, on the other hand, just tastes very strange to most non-americans. the sour milk thing honestly makes me want to retch.

if you grow up eating hershey's and think that's what chocolate tastes like, i'm sure it's fine. but the rest of the world is in no way being snobbish by considering it inedibly gross.

I was just talking today about how weird it is that some people think cilantro tastes and smells like soap. I absolutely love it and can't wrap my head around that.

It's real garbage but it's better than Nestle.

Only in Canada.

Smarties are fake M&Ms everywhere but America. Fuck Smarties.

100% agree with OP. I was so excited to try Hershey's when I went to the USA. It was terrible. Who in their right mind would eat that?

Reece's on the other hand...god tier chocolate.

lol this is such a load of crap, Hershey's isn't even sold in most countries, at least not in many shops, it's cadbury that is the McDonalds of chocolate in the vast majority of countries.

1) Chocolate should be unsullied by biscuits (especially god damn foul Oreos, eurgh) except where such infection is kept to a minimum.

2) The greatest cheap chocolate ever is Lidl's Alpine Milk Chocolate. 99p, 100% delish.

It's actually the other way around: M&M's are literally fake Smarties.

From Wikipedia:
Forrest Mars, Sr., son of the Mars Company founder, Frank C. Mars, copied the idea for the candy in the 1930s during the Spanish Civil War when he saw soldiers eating British made Smarties, chocolate pellets with a colored shell of what confectioners call hard panning (essentially hardened sugar syrup) surrounding the outside, preventing the candies from melting.

I have no problem with cheap chocolate in general (I tend to prefer milk chocolate over the more premium stuff) but I finally tried some Hershey's last year and it was inedible, it really did taste like vomit. I guess it's one of those things that you had to grow up with in order to appreciate.

This changes everything I thought I knew about candy...if smarties are fake mm's in Canada then what else don't I know? I need answers!
How about the fact that M&Ms are fake Smarties:

Most American chocolate taste crap compared to European. Once you eat proper European chocolates you realize what you have been missing. Same can be said about American bakery items. Yuck.

When I studied in Mexico I basically lived on Hershey's Cookies'n'Cream bars
when I wasn't gorging on tortas, tamales, tacos and all other fantastic street food
. Can't attest for the other flavours though.

And how is that any different than people growing up eating another brand of chocolate and thinking that's what chocolate tastes like?
