This man is dropping truth bombs. For anyone who is not used to the flavour it can literally taste like vomit. It is not pleasant. It's Ike drinking milk that has been left out in the sun until it starts to separate :(

Yeah thats why I stay away from Hershey or any other mass produced US chocolate. Should know by now they use stale milk to get that "unique" taste :P
 
anything below 70 - 75% is not chocolate: it's candy

milk chocolate is ok for kids that just want a load of sugar.

If you wanna try 90% or even 95% chocolate buy the thinnest one to make it melt more easily in your mouth: it is absolutely fantastic with a glass of red wine.
 
Ironically I had Hershey's before coming to the us and not since inspite of living 2 hrs from Hershey pa and having gone there about 2-3 times already.
 
As a British man who has tried it twice, it tastes like actual vomit. Not as in just bad, but like puke in my mouth.

American cheese.
Sweet bread (wtf).
And now vomit chocolate.
 
Give me Swiss or Italian chocolate any day of the week.

I visited a friend in Switzerland and I've never eaten so good sweet wise. They had some Nesquik type powder that was way better than Nesquik, a legit chocolate spread for toast and such, and an extra milk recipe chocolate bar that I would die to get in the States.

So good.

Ritter Sport is on sale this week at my grocery store. Any flavor recommendations? The butter wafer one sounded weird.
 
Agree with OP. When I visited America I was in shock at how their most popular chocolate brand straight up tastes of actual vomit, yet no one I spoke to seemed to taste it.
 
U don't get it OP. Such a declarative and definitive statement is why you're fake news.

I'll agree its not the best tasting chocolate but its far from the worse. In fact, many people enjoy it. It's like the Starbucks of chocolate. Its the Corona of chocolate. It's like the Toyota of chocolates. If you can only accept the top 5% of chocolatiers as acceptable (or you are like the owner of popular internet gaming site and fly to other continents just to eat chocolate) then you are privileged and part of that privilege is being able to describe perfectly acceptable things as "shit". That's not a criticism but simply a description of your "condition."

American cheese has it's uses. It is not a proper cheese good for sandwiches, but they melt real good on a burger for a little flavour. Hershey's I have to assume is due to the brand. An entire country cannot make chocolate that tastes like that. There must be alternatives similar to cadburys.
 
According to the Wikipedia entry, Hershey reformulated their chocolate for Canadians in 1983 because we weren't putting up with that shit. I wonder if that still holds? (I have no idea what you guys are talking about with the vomit thing, so that's one explanation) Hershey's chocolate tastes fairly ordinary, but certainly not what you guys are describing. Unless I've just been normalized to it, I dunno. I can't say I eat the stuff often.

The funny thing is that the people that identify what they are calling the vomit taste aren't EXACTLY wrong.

What they are tasting is Butyric acid





So some people might just not like the taste or are too sensitive to the taste that they taste what they perceive to be vomit. My tongue is sensitive to the taste of peanuts (I was allergic), so I can taste it in Chocolate bars that have peanut product that got into them. At the end of the day you can't talk shit about "ha ha, you are eating vomit" if you partake of any fermented foods.

I definitely noticed this in Parmesan cheese growing up, I thought I was going crazy.

Not to turn the conversation away from chocolate, but I've always wondered why a country would want to put it's name to such a shitty cheese. I mean, if you're going to put your nations name on it, at least make it not plastic goo.

Because too many people think Hershey's is good because they trust advertising more than their own experiences?

Because Hershey's somehow managed to get legal approval to remove their competition in the U.S. when they managed to get Cadbury chocolate banned for no other reason than that they didn't want to have to compete against a milk chocolate actually made from milk instead of sugar?

Have you tasted both European Cadbury and American "Cadbury"?

Cadbury in the US is made under license by Hersey's and is an entirely different chocolate recipe, like factually.
 
We have a sweet store here that imports chocolate, or what some countries would call chocolate. Bought the wife a Hershey's bar as I know from a terrible experience of having to try it before, anyway she spat it on in a public area so fast, it was hilarious, she was apologizing to people for spitting it out and started to clean it up with a tissue. I just stood there and laughed.

Why anyone would willing eat this is beyond me. Eat some proper chocolate.
 
No idea about Hershey's, never had any but for regular milk chocolate I usually just buy either Milka or Nestlé.

For darker chocolate I love a local brand here called "Jubileu". They sell all kinds of varieties from milk chocolate to extra dark chocolate in both Premium and Regular packages.

Pretty damn awesome. I like their regular milk chocolate a lot too, but it's usually a bit more expensive so I just buy their darker/premium stuff. They used to have one which was dark chocolate + pink pepper and it was absolutely amazing.
 
It is a higher quality and doesn't have the vomit taste which makes a big difference. It is the same in that it is the most popular in their respective countries and cheap.

Its nasty and barely grades as chocolate anymore because of how little cocoa mass they put in there, after slowly weeding it out over the years due to rising trade price of cocoa.

Lindt is probably the best high street grade of chocolate but even that crap is scratching the surface.

Hershey's was probably pretty good chocolate when it was first created. But like most American food brands that have been around for a long time and turned into huge corporations, the recipes were bastardized over time to save money.

Another possibility is that Hershey's was never that good, but like Coca-Cola they came out ahead of their competitors during World War II sugar rationing thanks to clever business deals.
