Schlotzsky's has the best Salt & Vinegar chips. The only kind I see at the store are kettle chips and they suck. Also, all of the english people who come in always get them, lol. So predictable.

Krunchers Kosher Dill are good too. I think I like em more than Salt n Vinegar.

Serious question. What the hell is the difference between miracle whip and mayo?

Miracle Whip is essentially mayo with some extra ingredients that make it sweeter. The "miracle" part of the "whip" is some machine that stirs it faster.

Anyway, you would probably never notice the difference. People just seem to dislike the one they didn't grow up with. I worked at a deli where for everything we just mixed the two in a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture. Everyone loved it.

salt and vinegar potato chips are a staple flavor in my experience, but this is the first time I've ever heard of somebody doing something as unpleasant to french fries as applying vinegar to them. sounds awful.

miracle whip is fucking amazing and 1000x better than mayo.

also. fuck vinegar

nope. HELL NOPE!

Its called miracle whip because its a miracle anyone would substitute it for mayo. Its gross.

I always put vinegar on fried food. Tastes great, and for health reasons it makes perfect sense to use vinegar with fried food.

Well, technically you'd apply vinegar to "chips", which are thicker than French fries (almost like steak fries). You sprinkle it over the top - goes well with the salt. It's basically the same flavour as salt and vinegar chips, except the chips are hotter.

Really? I thought that was common place I mean a chip is a fry, I use it on both and the only determining factor is whether i feel like cutting the potato's vertically or round.

DIA food court? Yeah. No wonder your food wasn't that great...If you would have told people you were coming down to Detroit I would've stopped by the DIA man. I know a dude who works there and could have let us in for free.
Damn dude. I made a thread a week ago about me going to New Orleans. Forgot I was going to Detroit and the DIA too. It's a school trip and forget we were stopping be there too (we were there for about 3 hours).

One is mayonnaise, and one is Miracle Whip. They don't really taste anything alike, they are just both s similar colour and kept in the condiment section at the store.

You're all insane. This is the only true condiment.

a sandwich just isnt a sandwich without that tangy zip of miracle whip. I dont mind mayo but I could never lick it off the knife like I do with miracle whip. I dont understand how people enjoy mayo over miracle whip. boggles the mind

edit: also fuck mustard. ketchup is my one true saving grace. I load this shit up on almost everything

never seen anyone put vinegar on fries. May have to get some when I go grocery shopping tomorrow. Seems like something I would like.

Canada. School Band trip, we recorded an album as well.

You're in Detroit I'm assuming. Really didn't see much this year, but last year we went for a couple days. Got to walk around the city and see an awesome Jazz show (can't remember the name of the venue). What do you guys do there? The city seemed like a ghost town to me. Not many people were walking around in the city, and there didn't seem to be a whole lot of shops or stores to go to.

Also! Holy shit I am jealous of you guys and your cheap beer.

12 Budweiser for $10? My god, that's got to cost at least double here. Also, got to try some Four Loko, it's illegal here in Canada. And I'm not surprised that it's illegal lol.

How am I supposed to eat chicken fingers and fries without vinegar? And Ketchup just doesn't do the job, ugh.

What? No, Ketchup does the job. You godless heathen.
And Vinegar is part of the Ketchup process, IIRC. You're still eating with Vinegar, dealwithit.gif

Also when I was at the gas stations for pit stops, I didn't see any Salt and Vinegar flavoured chips? The fuck? That's the best flavour!

Those gas stations suck then. As you can find FritoLay Salt and Vinegar chips nearly anywhere around here. However, having that all the time isn't really healthy. :/

You do know the American (if I'm reading this right) Bud is NO WHERE near the international variants, right?

Also Bud is piss, like most American beers. Not something to be envious of. :/

Well, I'm filipino american so vinegar is our staple condiment. Vinegar + soy sauce = godly dip for anything fried.

sounds like ponzu basically, another godly all purpose sauce.

there's also butter and soy sauce, which sounds odd but is also amazing.

Use malt vinegar and don't forget the salt

No matter the brand, beer/alcohol is just generally cheaper in the US. Also you can buy it anywhere! Corner stores, gas stations, grocery stores etc. We have to go to the LCBO or The Beer Store which both close at 9 or 10. Also when I was in New Orleans, I found out that it is legal to drink in public there.

Its kinda illegal anywhere here, when I lived in Long Beach you weren't allowed to drink in your damn front lawn. Vegas is about the only place I've seen your allowed to be a drunk on the streets.

Why would anyone want to soggy-up their fries, and with vinegar of all things? Never heard of that before going to this restaurant in Decatur and ordering fish and chips (fries). Came with a small cup of vinegar that I didn't know what to do with. I dipped my fish in it and it was nasty, so I used it to clean off the table when I was done.

I love balsamic vinegar, however, and I use it as a dip for tomato, basil, and mozzi sandwhiches.

Edit -

It's not meant to be used as a dip. You apply it like you would salt and pepper: all over. You then have another condiment as your dip elsewhere, typically ketchup, brown sauce or curry sauce*.
Oh.

I'm not really in Detroit. I'm in the burbs. Though I did grow up in it for a good chunk of my life. There's a bunch of artsy stuff going on now called Art X Detroit. Though its probably not that busy because the time of year/weather. Things usually pick up early summer and go through the entire summer/fall. Also there are good shops and stores but it depends on which part of Detroit you're at.

American drinking laws have never made any damn sense to me.

That's just Ontario. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) is the only entity authorized to sell alcohol that is not for immediate consumption. However, the regulation of alcohol is a provincial matter.

For example, in Alberta, private retailers can sell alcohol, but must buy through the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission. They still must be dedicated liquor stores, so you can't see them in gas stations or grocery stores, but many of them do have later hours.

The cheaper liquor is probably mainly due to lower taxes on it.

This too. I can't imagine that anyone actually follows them. How do you keep alcohol away from college and university students? Seems kind of silly.

What's the progress on that Robocop statue, btw? It's really being made still, right? That's the only reason I'd ever visit Detroit.

Vinegar is great with fried seafood but otherwise not necessary. That's just as a condiment, since there's obviously use to be found in dressings and such.

What place did you visit in America! In the south like other ingredinients in the meal I swear the locals worship it more than god.
