Hey Conan, Kratos called...

What platform was that on? cause the treacle like FPS it shown in the first half of the trailer was a joke, a bad one at that, also, games are "inspired" by others all the time, but if the first thing you notice is "Well thats plays a lot like xyz" you know it's just a blatant rip off, bah.

Er, yes it can, GOW is GOW, a cheap knock off like this? not so much, you can nick ideas all day like these guys have obviously done, I bet they haven't stolen the only thing that matters, the feel of the game, it looks, and probably plays like a cheap knock off, that is not a good thing.

If we're talking just feel, GoW is a ripoff of Rygar.

Well, you know what they say; "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Of course I don't know if it's still imitation when it's so similar that it's uncanny... The door opening, some of the special attacks, the ledge climbing, the hydra-esque monster fight, etc. etc. etc.

But it does have lots of brutal, visceral gore. And boobs. Sweet, succulent boobs. :lol

Breasts are the best!

Come the **** on, do you do this every E3, or every time a video is shown that is months away from release?

Wait wait wait....games can be derivative?!

If they can pull it off, all the more power to 'em. I'd like to see more visceral combat.

That said, the video wasn't exactly thrilling, and the need to get rid of the weird floating lights.

Well since Conan is basically a theif and warrior, what kind of gameplay did you expect? Platforming and hack/slash? I mean yeah, red and green orbs just like God of War, oh and Devil May Cry, oh and Onimusha....

Well there was an RPG for the Amiga once.

I can't really have said that, as 1: I have only played GOW a little, and 2: I have never played Rygar (Did it even get an EU release, not heard of it outside gaf), sorry.

Yeah, GoW has a lot of Rygar in it as I noted earlier in the thread. GoW is by far the better game, but it's also a lot like Rygar. In fact the swinging mechanic in GoW 2 is straight out of Rygar.

This is a such a shameful ripoff. The developers should feel dirty making this. Maybe that why it looks like crap.

Wow, did you guys see that boss? It's the hydra from GoW1 :lol

It has the same attack animation, Conan even stabs it the same way Kratos does. Conan even has that uninterruptable spinning attack.

Prince, Dante called!

Dante...well, you kind of started the trend, so mad props. :lol

I'm actually kind of looking forward to this, being a fan of pre-Tolkien clone fantasy.
The difference is those were all GOOD GAMES that, while they did borrow concepts, also innovated and brought a lot of new creative ideas to the table. This is a complete knockoff with nothing new to offer from some crappy developer. You're foolish to say the difference between PoP and GOW is the same as the difference between GoW and Conan.

The best part was when the monster threw him into the air, and you think "Oh snap, QTE Time" and Conan justs lands flat on his back :lol

So yes it is a completly blatant on obvious rip off of god of war 1/2 but... here's the thing folks, god of war isn't on a nexgen system yet , god of war 3 will likely knock this out of the water while adding some new elements to it's "wheel" and honestly would you rather have a nexgen god of war knockoff that looks to play nearly on par with the game which it rips off (IE it'll be a bit mindless but fun) or would you rather the developers stole elements from shittier action games like bujingai or sevensamurai 20xx or simply made another dynasty warriors knockoff. There are many things worse then god of war to steal from.

I actually think it's kind of funny how blatant it is, but someone needs to come out and admit that kratos must have atleast been partially influenced by conan in the first place.

For reference here is a list of things I spied that seem to be ... er heavily influenced by god of war based on this demonstration-

Graphics- the enemy design is similar to the generic zombies in the first god of war but moreso it's the animations of conan himself that despite using different weapons look very similar to kratos and his swordchucks.

Music- Generic epic sounding battle music that seems to use the same instrument set as god of war though it doesn't sound as good.

design- Lets see the treasure boxes and doors are opened the same way and inthe case of the treasure boxes they are even color coded identically. This is more a 3d action staple but when you kill enemies you collect orbs, from game to game it's usually green, red , yellow but that shit goes back to the original 3d action game- onimusha so everything has ripped off that idea. Also I suppose it's worth noting that conan rescues a topless chick who could just as easily have been in that part of god of war. That boss shown inthe demo seems to be a dragon but it looks alot like the hydra in GOW and is killed practically the same way, the actual battle against it played out more like the collosus battle in gow2, with a quick battle followed by a short chase around a circular level.

gameplay- well I mentioned the animations allready and combat itself seems very similar but again some of these ideas have been around since onimusha- you have a fast attack and a strong attack and in this game it seems the god of war influence is killing attacks , depicted here by the camera zooming in GOW style and the screen taking a red tone as conan lops off appendages or chops enemies in half. There is actually a small difference I noticed though- conan appears to be able to just pick up whatever weapons are laying around and use them , more beat em up style. The differences in this game compared to god of war showed themselves more in the second part of this video, with conan picking up a torch to burn down a thatch hut and then tossing the torch at an enemy to light him aflame.

All in all I'm just curious what Balrog and Jaffe think of this game ?

Since I don't have a PS2 and I always wanted to play GOW, I'm glad that Conan ripped it off. I've heard the hands on reports say it's great if you liked GOW. Nothing new under the sun folks... GOW ripped off other games too.

"This sucks because it plays just like this other game that was great."

Logic am fail.

Oh god....

i actually thought this thread was calling out Late Night with Conan O'Brian. :lol

Mr O'Brien, Kratos called
he threatened to rip off your freakishly long limbs and beat you to death with them.
again.
Are you sure you don't want me to call that lawyer?

I'm a Conan fan, the quality or originality of this game does nothing to influence my purchse. It could literally be a steaming pile of hot caca in a Conan adorned box and I would still buy and push the mushy brown substance down my PS3's throat.

Yeah, a lot of it is obviously a GoW ripoff, but I don't think that's a big deal. The problem with this game is that it just looks amateurish compared to GoW. Animation, shoddy combat, lol-tastic looking waterfalls and many other graphics elements.

An early video of a game that looks pretty decent, and seems to play like GoW?

And people are bitching that it's a rip-off? Who cares?

I need some good hack'n'slash action on the 360.

p.s. Grow the fuck up.

Edit: The screen tearing does make my eyes bleed though

We have absolutely no idea if this game isn't going to BE a good game that will add inovation.

I hope the voice work is fixed too, along with the tearing, but other than that I have no complaints -- it looks pretty good and throughout the trailer I honestly felt entertained and wanted to see what was next. If you're gonna steal, steal from the best.

Hey, at least Conan kicks open treasure boxes in a second, where Kratos has to struggle and struggle with them.

This game has been making progress, it looks better than when it first showed. It used have almost a weird cel-shading effect going on. If they can really polish this game up they could have a definite winner.

Some of the animations and transitions seem rough, collision detection can be spotty and the camera jerks around too much. They could put a little more detail and texture work in the game as well, the little things go a long way today.

I think the game still has a late release date at this point so hopefully the devs will really drop the hammer and nail this title.

So you will play this *instead* of God of War!!??. OMFG :_(. This is sadness.
