Hey GAF! Sequel to BloodBorne or Dark Souls 3?

Dark Souls 3 with a heavy bloodborne influence. Make crossbows work like guns, impliment the new dodge system, etc. Get rid of weight and replace it with armor weight classes.

I prefer the knights and heavy armor setting of the souls games. The trench coat hunter thing turns me off.
A space style similar to Destiny would be best. Keeping the signature melee centric combat of course.

personally i'm hoping for dark souls 3 within the next year or two

then i'd like to see them move onto something else. though their hand will probably be forced into making another bloodborne, assuming the game does really well

Dark Souls 3 is already in development.

I also prefer the setting.
Yeah I want DS3. Like the setting much more.. plus Id be able to run it better on PC.

I'm also a sword and board guy myself.. I'd rather they make a game that's good for all player types then how they did it with Bloodborne.

Anything by Miyazaki and his team.

But as much as I love the Souls games I'd like to see them try their hand at something new. Maybe a sci-fi or cyberpunk title incorporating some of Souls' design philosophies?

Hard to say

I find myself leaning more towards BB (though I haven't played it yet) since DS2 was so disapointing. Not as a game but as a sequel I don't think it properly delivered in its story. Felt more like a spiritual successor.

Now if DS3 were to remedy this I'd be soooo down.

Something like this would be great. I don't want Dark Souls to be a clone of BB, but it should definitely take influence from it.

Youkai have a lot of potential as enemies; I'd love to see From tackle them.

Some specific ones I'd like to see...

  • Oni: This one's obvious, but they would make great mini-bosses like the Black Knights of Dark Souls. They would wield a variety of weapons, with the iron club Oni being the strongest. Later in the game they'll begin appearing in pairs of red and blue Oni. Also, the iron club weapon dropped by them would be one of the best in the game, but would require a ridiculously high Strength to use.
  • Futakuchi-onna: perhaps they would start out sitting down looking like normal women, but the moment you try to approach one from behind, she lunges for you with the mouth on her head and begins to crawl after you on her back.
  • Tsukumogami: The next evolution of the mimic, these guys would imitate anything from weapons to background scenery to treasure on the ground, attacking you when you get close for a surprise.
  • Ashiaraiyashiki: These giant feet would appear in houses you're exploring and begin yelling something incomprehensible. You would have maybe ten seconds to leave or splash the foot with water; if you fail to fulfill the request or leave the house, the foot will begin aggressively trying to stomp you. If you fulfill the request, you get some kind of treasure and the foot will stomp invaders who come into the house.

Sounds good to me, and to top it all off have Kodama in the role of the little mascot creatures in Bloodborne :D.

latest

Bloodborne, all it needs is more weapons/rewards for exploiring and earlier access to bloodtinge/arcane weapons then pretty much the only thing i dislike about the game is fixed.

Hopefully DLC adds a lot of new weapons though I'm not hopeful.

I think the dark souls story is kinda done after ds2 dlc.

Well, Fromsoft already made the Otogi games, which use the Minamoto no Yorimitsu mythos. There are quite a few 'youkai' in those.

Otogi 2 is one of my favorite games ever.

Souls games have always felt like advanced Zelda games to me and Nintendo is working with 3rd parties on 1st party franchises so Aonuma and Miyazaki should collaborate on Zelda Souls next.

I'd prefer a combination. The depth of Dark Souls with the lore of Bloodborne. If I had to choose.. Dark Souls 3 probably because it would come out on more platforms.

Or they should mix the fantasy medieval world of dark souls with the cosmic horror stuff of bloodborne, fantasy gods and warriors invaded by cosmic horrors would be interesting, call it Soulborne or Dark Blood.

I'm sure we will get both considering how well both franchises are received at the moment!

I hope this type of design can make its way on to other genres and remain popular.

I want more Demon's Souls.

I like medieval. I like shields.

I love Bloodborne too, don't get me wrong, and many times it still 'feels' like D*Souls... but as much as I like the new combat I will always prefer shield and sword.

Cyberpunk would be nice too, though I'm not sure how that would affect combat. If it's just the art, I don't really care - a simple reskin might be a turnoff if it doesn't 'feel' right. And if it's the mechanics too (which it should be) that's a tough challenge.

Demons Souls 2

I want to return to Boletaria

I want World Tendency back.

I want to hang with my homies in the Nexus

I want to run across long bridges with a dragon breathing fire on my heels again. Loved stuff like that in Demons.

I want to have From roll the servers to Pure Black tendency on Halloween, and then go to 4-1 and watch hundreds of bloodstains appear from everyone dying from the Red Phantom that is right at the beginning.

I want that again.

Or Bloodborne 2

Dark Souls 3 is probably already in development by the other team.

As much as I love bloodborne I feel like it's pretty complete in terms of lore. Like there's plenty of room for dlc but not necessarily another game. I don't want a dark souls 2 situation where it's just constantly referring to things from the first game with a wink and a nudge, instead of carving its own path.

So I'd prefer a new IP from Miyazaki which is another spiritual successor like bloodborne was.

But whatever, I trust the guy and probably buy whatever he puts out.

Personally I hope they learn from both games and make their next one better.

DArk Souls did the rpg elements better, there was more variety to character build and loot, factoring in weight and playstyles everyone felt like they were "different" in some ways whereas in Bloodborne weight plays no factor and everyone is quick and nimble with a focus on dodging.

Also the fact of NG+ having no new loot, no new bosses/changes, really takes the wind out of hte sails for even playing NG+ to me, I thought Dark Souls 2 did NG+ brilliantly.

For me I'd love tosee their next game focus less on a town/castle setting and more on dark fantasy/fairy tales, in a rural'ish setting out in nature.

For me personally... I'd go with Dark Souls 3.

It's impossible to say with any certainty which game in any of the lineage is 'better' than the others, I really do think it's a matter of taste. Since all are so uniquely special in design.

That said for me, I think Bloodborne does one thing and does that one thing REALLY well.
It's the most accessible of any of the games, as it takes a lot of choice away from the player.

The combat system is so tightly designed to be played in one specific way.
You have to be close and aggressive and fast... and the loop is designed around perfecting this form of engagement.

I prefer the choice Dark Souls offers you.
The game has a wider engagement philosophy... you can be swift and aggressive, you can tank and play defensive, you can range and be nimble. Player discretion has a bigger role in combat.

What BB'd style allows for is a tighter experience and (arguably) better pacing as the designers know how each combatants would tackle a given situation so only have to balance it to 1 play style, which makes the whole package feel more cohesive.

But to me, I like the player-first mentality of Dark Souls. Letting me craft the game for how I like to approach encounters.

Also with Bloodborne due to that cohesive and accessible design mentality, you have a world that is beautiful and intelligent designed but far more singular in focus. I miss the diverse and often random/chaotic environments of Dark Souls. Having player choice in the design allows for more experimentation in design as you can account for range players and then enhance or handicap those playstyles in your world design. Where as Bloodborne only has to focus on the 1.

I'd really like to see both continue separately, there's something more visceral about BB you don't get in Dark Souls (plus it's easier to understand mechanically... near unlimited healing items helps!) that I'd like to see explored, but not at the expense of what Dark Souls offers, which I feel can go in a lot more directions than BB can at this point.

I love both DS and BB games but that is thing I loved about DS more...you had more of a choice of play style. Also like estus flasks more than vials lol
