Whatever helps you sleep at night, no one could touch Disney's animation team in the 90's.

Disney isnt one animation team. Rescuers Down Under had vastly superior animation to Lion King.

ugh.. Rescuers isn't better by any means. Just as much weird animation in that. Lion King was messy, but there's some really nice looking scenes. Rack Focus change from the bugs at the into is still awesome. Don't care as much for the lions designs, and there's weird mistakes; Nala also changes eye colors from green to blue, outlines go from red to full black w/o consistency, proportions change at random. The best stuff visually along with the opening, the stampede, etc; is Scar's performance and how beautifully Rafiki's animated (best in the film).

90's Disney was definitely messy though, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, and Pochontas all had similar problems. Only, by Pochontas all the charm was lost. Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, 101 Dalmatians and the older stuff in general is far more accomplished "animation". (Kahn, Roger, Hook, Pinocchio, Bambi, Cruella) Some of the best 90's stuff is really fun though. I have a soft spot for Lion King. Like it as a straight forward redemption story. It's shockingly short when you watch it today, for being so epic. Aladdin and Mermaid are better light viewing, but growing up Lion King was the gem.

I'm not, Studio Ghibli's best films weren't made in the 90's.

Japan in the 90's was great. Ghibli was awesome, Ghost in a Shell was great. They were experimenting a lot more than Disney - who were trying to reclaim their throne (successfully) and then stupidly trying to boil it down to a formula and stagnating in executive-driven hell. No point in claiming one was better than the other, but I'd be wary to pit Disney against the entire country of Japan. It was a lot more creative overseas than at Disney for the better part of the decade.

One of my all time favourites, even if I'm a bit more aware of its flaws these days. The soundtrack is pure nostalgic magic :D

This film's magic is that it is watchable for everyone despite your age. It is one of those Disney cartoons where people can not tease you with being immature because it has everything that both a kid and adult should enjoy.

Yeah but it's ehhh... and it's in the late 80's, and he only said 90's :P

Also arguable but Roger Rabbit started the Renaissance in some way :P

I have never been able to watch Tarzan all the way through. Once he becomes an adult, the film loses me. Never seen RDU, unfortunately. Actually...I did, but I was really young.

Mulan is one of my favorite childhood movies. Watched it every night. It, Aladdin, and TLK are my top 3.

I suppose it does. But then...Little Mermaid was wack...

The fuck is wrong with The Little Mermaid? >:(

Despite being full of personality Ariel is very static. And Eric, despite not being flat compared to his predecessors, wasn't really too interesting either. Their love "bloomed" for three days only as well (compare to say, Belle and Beast).

Ahhh.. The good old days where those kind of games were just fun and the world did not need the best graphics.
But those WERE state of the art graphics lol
This is like people saying "Those Star Wars movies were better before they started using all of those high-tech special effects"

Never really thought about it, but possibly my favorite movie ever. I love everything from the animation to the music, everything meshes together so nicely.

Greatest of all the Disney renaissance films.

When they did the home video release with the added "Morning Report" scene, they should have opted for an "Endless Night" scene instead. Such a better song.

I hate "Morning Report". It's weird that they ever thought that was going to work. It actually hurts the movie. I used to dislike "Just Can't Wait to be King" a little when I was a kid. I always wanted to get back to the story. I don't think "Endless Night" would have worked anywhere in the film.

About Hakuna Matata, how would Timon and Pumba have reacted if Simba actually confessed why he was so depressed? They never had any perspective, they just told him to forget about his troubles and past. Then related in in song, that Pumba passed gas and felt bad. I just can't imagine it goes over as well if Simba spits out a verse, telling about his father being murdered in a stampede, it was his fault, and "- my Uncle told me to never return! It's our problem freeee,
phil-o-sophyyy!"

I haven't seen the musical (it's not available on disc, right?) but it should fit in right where Simba leaves his friends, just before Rafiki shows up.
