Hey Namco, how about a Bluetooth PS3 Negcon?!

I have one - was never able to get it to work as well for me as a DS2. I still keep it though, because I just think it's really cool, really well designed, really solidly built, and because I'm a namco fan-nerd.

Cross d-pad <3 Seeing it in motion certainly gives an whole new perspective, never paid too much attention to the Negcon back in the day, wonder if it works with gamepad adapters in racing wheel mode.

You bet it does. However the cheap little ones from Radio Shack map the analog I and II buttons to Y positive and Y negative, which kind of sucks since you can't feather the brakes while still giving gas.

If anyone knows of an adapter that maps the analog buttons to pedals, let me know.

Completely agree with the OP.

I LOVED the Negcon back in the day. I thought it was fucking brilliant(still do). Its all I used for games like Wipeout, Destruction Derby, Ridge Racer, Rapid Racer, and the list goes on.

BRING IT BACK!!

meh

I found it kind of awkward, personally. Opinions are not worth lolling about.

I didn't mean it to laugh at him ... I'm just laughing thinking how much more precise it is compared to the wiimote

I guess so - I'm interested in seeing how well steering is implemented in Mario Kart. With the NegCon, I was never sure whether I was supposed to twist both ends at once, or hold one end still and twist the other like a mini-wheel. Like I said, I always had better luck with the DS2 (or now the 360 controller, with RR6).

FAR FAR FAR better

I'll be actually trying both before making a decision, thanks.

Oh, that's why.

What in the world makes you think precision is what I want it for?

That looks weird. But the dpad looks horrible...

Already stated, but I'll say it again: the d-pad was there simply for menu navigation.

Man, it makes me feel old when some of you are wondering what in the hell a NeGcon is, and yet my introduction to it when it first came out was nowhere near my start in video gaming.

You could do it any way you felt comfortable with. For me, If I wanted to turn right, I twist forward with my right and twist back with my left and then the opposite if I wanted to turn left. I thought it was pretty intuitive, comfortable and made sense. I think the best way to think of it is like Virtual On, Cyber Sled, or most recently, Katamari. In fact, damn, NeGcon Katamari would be fucking awesome. Twist to turn, use the analog buttons to move forward and back. Brilliant!

I generally used it like a mini-wheel (if by that, you mean twisting in opposing directions).

It DOES take some getting used to, but once you do ... its hard to play without it (at least for the games it works well on). For example, I can play the Ridge Racer and Wipeout series much better with the NeGcon.

???

It easier to control a game?

shhhhh ... we're still young. Put it out of your mind. :p

Yes, make it happen Namco. And add steering wheel compatibility mode so that it would just work directly with games that support wheels.

You might want to consider that some people enjoys using the wheel for the immersion, just a thought.

Huh? He's taking about Wii. What wheel, the thing that you stick the Wiimote in and hold in mid-air?

Yeah ... that thing's immersive :p

I haven't enjoyed a racing game as much as Ridge Racer Revolution with the negcon...

Pure racing perfection.

I want to recreate the experience soon. need to find a copy of RRR somewhere.

What a weird bump. But, yes, RRR and NeGcon were an unstoppable combo.

And in case Davidion comes back into the thread, think of the NeGcon as a steering wheel without the logistical problems. To me it was every bit as good as a steering wheel, but didn't require a lot of space and allowed you to play in much more comfortable positions. For those reasons, it gets my vote for greatest driving (and Ace Combat) controller ever made.

So it's an analog stick limited to one axis and you use both hands to operate it?

basically yeah, but don't know it til you've tried it. Best racing pad ever. The amount of precise control you have is obscene. Nothing else compares.

NegCon sucked... it was all about the JogCon:

Looks like someone hotlinked an image. :lol

Serves you right for talking such blasphemy. Negcon was the best
only
way to play Wipeout.

It's still one of the best racing controllers ever made, and with Wipeout HD on the way; I'd like to return to the good old days of using a Negcon to play Wipeout. :(

Make it happen Namco!

P.S. Jogcon fanboys go screw! Negcon 4 life!
Holy shit! I haven't seen one of those in years.

Yeah, I can see it being more precise than a thumbstick. It's a much bigger motion to steer all the way, so it's easier to hit any given step in between.

Have you tried Wii or PS3 racers with tilt steering? Excite Truck/Bots? Motorstorm, Wipeout? Those work pretty well.

The problem with tilt controls is the neutral positions. It's hard and unintuitive remember its very position and it messes a lot of stuff. The NegCon don't have this problem and is just as precise as tilt controls

BEGONE FOOLISH ONE! I own two of each of the controllers and can tell you with 100% certainty that the NeGcon takes a shit from SPACE all over the JoGcon! No contest.

I am thinking of hacking one of my NeGcon by putting a logitech PCB in it to work on the PC.
