Hey Namco let's talk Soul Calibur IV...

So far every new character except the first one they unveiled (Hilde? The girl in armour) has taken a notch off my hype.

And to the people saying don't use them, I may never use them but that doesn't mean I won't come up against them with the AI or online. Unless Namco offer an option to filter out the characters, then people have every right to complain about their inclusion.
Did Soul Calibur II contain a versus mode that locked out Assassin, Berserker, and Lizardman?

If that was the case, perhaps they could do something similar for the online portion of SC IV. One mode that allows all characters to be selected, another for "proper" characters.

did anyone else really love the Fighter Demo's in SC 1? I remember watching the Kilik Demo hundreds of times. It looked awesome i hope they have that in SC4 such a neat extra.
Their motion capture sessions were among the best, if not the best in the industry.

guys, come on...this will be the same game you played a decade ago...just super pretty...
i dont think i've ever seen you make a good compliment about games. As a matter of fact, i'm convinced that you hate games.

How was Assassin not a proper character? He was the best, man.

According to Wikipedia, he was in the NA, and EU versions (basically not the Japanese version). I doubt Namco took the time to really balance these characters in relation to the rest of the roster.

Because Vader, Yoda, elf girl, and spike boobs DO make sense?

If Team Soul introduced a character that had the combination of all of the above then SCIV is a day one purchase.

Do the Star Wars characters make anyone else almost not want to buy the game? I really enjoy the series... but what the hell?

It was originally rumored that Davy Jones and Jack Sparrow were the guest characters. Silly as they are, at least they wouldn't be completely out of place.

I would be nice to have had those characters instead of the Star Wars ones like you said but hey Star Wars is a bigger franchise, so I guess they went with more name recognition and such.

yoda and vader are good choices i guess.. although, The Three Storms from Big Trouble In Little China would've fit perfectly..especially Lightning with the spinning can openers on his hands, and Wind with the back scratchers of doom.

I'm hoping for an online restriction on the guest characters though. As in, if you're the host, you have the option of turning them off and keep them out of the game. Otherwise there's going to be a lot of asshats online. Oh well.

So did anyone else here play Soul Calibur 2 in the arcades? The World Conquest mode in that version was awesome. It didn't come to the home version, which was a bummer, but I've always hoped we might see it come out in a next-gen version.

Basically, there was a world map that was divided into 4 countries. You picked which country you wanted to fight for and then as you fought, you gained territory for your country. Best of all, you would level up and gain rank as you played and even better still, the machine would track your playing habits and develop an AI version of you to represent you when you were gone. So other players would get on when you weren't there, and be able to play against the AI version of you. When you got back on, it would tell you who you fought, and wether you won or lost. So if you had a popular arcade, pretty much everyone you fought was a representation of a real player.

It was fucking awesome. I was like 2 ranks away from being totally maxed out on my machine and my Kilik was almost unstoppable. Every day I would take lunch at work and go play, anxious to see how well I defended my territory while I was away. I would love to see this make a comeback for SC4 or 5, but I'm not holding my breath. Its just too much awesome.

It was fun, but limited to local stats which kind of made it seem worthless. A worldwide concquest via the internet would be all kinds of fun. To be honest I just want an updated SCII, it was perfect in every way.

Oh, yeah, that was totally awesome.

Except that the AI version of you was retarded.

? What rank did you climb to? If you were low on the totem pole, then yeah, you got repped by the bitch character you deserved. If you played it a lot though and actually leveled, your guy could get really fuckin good. The top players at my arcade were pretty goddamn tough. I think for the mostpart they played like their human counterparts too. Mine used all my favorite tricks. :D

I don't know why people are complaining about the Star Wars guys. Absurd crossovers are the best. The more absurd, the better.

Then Namco shoulda had The Dude and Walter as the guest characters. :D

Jeez Namco. You didn't even attempt to make this character fit with the rest of the game. Perhaps we'll see Kos-mos after all. :lol

What kind of weapon is that? Looks like a combo of a rainbow, a spit, and the moon.

Her face just doesn't fit. Damn you, anime eyes! I can understand the Zelda-ish Scharcualaezrade, but this is a stretch from what I expect from SC, excluding the guest characters. anyways, Hope she plays good.

Dear SNK Playmore,

Do you see what Namco's doing with Soulcalibur IV? Don't pull that shit in the new 3D Samurai Showdown game, and it's a day one purchase for me. :D

Signed,
twinturbo2 and everyone else who's annoyed/sad about Soulcalibur jumping the shark.

Dear Namco,

Is this picture familiar to the Soulcalibur devs?

If not, well, they should. Also, I want to work for you guys. It appears that your drug testing policy is rather lax. :D

holy munchkins, batman!

*hugs his unsealed collector's copy of SC1/jp and sheds a tear. a large, painful tear*

if somebody had told me back in the distant '00 this game would reach this.. this state i woud've slapped them silly, then forced them to take back their words and apologize to the team behind the marvel..

for fuck's sake, namco!

Er or perhaps that is just a character created with the create-a-charater mode.

HAHAHAHA... actually, that's a legit character...

It's gotta be a pre-made from the adventure mode (whatever it's called in the series). No way could that be part of the standard roster. It just can't be.
