Hey NeoGaffer, you could be a rapist

GAF has a total of 130,000 members.
Approximately 30% of them will at some point in their life commit either rape or sexual assault.

That's close to 40 thousand gaffers.
It is guaranteed that someone in this thread has or will at some point sexually assault or rape a fellow human being.

Yeah I feel this message is being lost in a swarm of MEN'S RIGHTS posts

I mean it's a good point to make. Video just has a confusing way of getting it out there

I cannot tell if this is serious or not.

Took the silly subtlety out for them:

There we go.

There is a very clear line between saying someone who likes like me/you can be a rapist and saying the person you see in the missor could be a rapist.

What's the line?

I don't understand why I should look at someone and think "they could be a rapist".

This sort of idiocy sabotages authentic efforts to combat sexual violence. Portraying all men as potential rapists is in the same ugly vein as the idea that all women invite rape by "provoking" their potential or actual attackers. How vile.

Do you look at yourself and think you could be a rapist?

That's the line.

Edit: Wait, I think you might actually be saying there is no need for either question. I can see why you'd say that. I'm just saying why this particular way of asking the question is a lot weirder than other ways.

Awareness is the first step to combating rape culture.
If you're aware of the fact that everyone you see is a potential rapist, you will do your bit to report suspicious behaviour (like someone's SO showing up with a bruise at work) to the authorities.

That's a dumb fucking way to go about it.

I don't know if I can believe those stats, I sure don't want to.

This dude thinks he's a lot more clever than he is. Reasonable point muddled in clumsy SJW execution.

Not it.

There's a difference between anyone could be a rapist and you could be a rapist.

I get what they are going for but the execution and the exclusion of women as a possibility hurt the message.

I'm not really bothered by the fact that everything is gendered. I am bothered by the suggestion that because I am a man, I am somehow prone to rape.
To be fair, the majority of those arguments come from men who justify victim blaming and such with things like "this is just how men are, we're biologically wired for sex." Everything about rape is too deeply politicized and over examined in the wrong ways.

You're assuming that no one is a repeat offender. That's a pretty derpy assumption to make.

Yeah, but you get the gist of it.
I'm also a bit off on the exact percentage (I think it might be 3%), but my point still stands - someone in this thread is a potential sexual assaulter.

No, I don't.

I don't understand how that's the line, because I also don't think that while looking at others.

Thinking of everyone I see as a potential rapist is not "awareness". It's paranoia.

I really hate it when people passively attack others, and then act like it's an admission of guilt when they rightfully interpret it as an attack instead of a neutral passive statement. It's not the first time I've seen someone do that and call it art, and it's unfortunately probably not the last.

Fighting rape culture isn't that hard. Just do more ads reminding people that rape goes beyond the back ally violent stranger and telling guys to not just stand around when others are acting rapey. You don't do it by including a back alley violent style rape in that ad.

Being that you are a potential rapist, potential child abuser, potential crack whore, potential murderer, and potential animal fucker, you disgust me!

I'm not saying you're any of these things, I'm just appalled at your capacity to become them.

I'm not sure which is worse:

A) Saying that people trying to help stop a rape could potentially be rapists themselves (I can understand the point, but this was executed really poorly).
B) The sexism going on with that word bank. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, either.

If I reported every person I saw with a bruise who has a SO to the police...
People get bruises and most of the time it don't mean shit. A girl I know always complains about bruises because her boyfriend hits her in his sleep. There's awareness, and there's Kony 2014, and this video is the latter.

Sure, in nursing school this is all I hear. Men are prime subjects for rape, sexual assault, incest, etc, etc, etc. Women are like a small percentage, but it's coming from women who sleep with their students or someone underage. I'm sure there's a percentage who commit such crimes, but the statistics and research normally say it's a male problem.

What can you do as a male? Its as if we do need someone standing up for us. It's crazy hearing these facts from a professional hired to teach students.

....he opened the door but all he found was a mirror and a message that read:

"No John, you are the rapists"

And then John was the rapists

I do not get the message they're trying to convey.
The only thing I got from this video is that they're calling me a rapist.

I'm disturbed by the fact that people just walked off, like they heard what was going on but they were like "Oh shit better bail, someone's getting raped."
Cowards.

Out by an order of magnitude, you just accused an additional 36000 people of being rapsists.

I don't know if I can believe those stats, I sure don't want to.
I'm hoping those stats are using the definition of sexual assault includes harassment like leering, displaying sexually explicit materials, inappropriate sexual jokes and comments on people's bodies and cat-calling. Otherwise it seems absurdly high.
