So a while back, Kurt found a massive list on 2ch compiling the top 700 game tracks of all time.

The variety in the list was wildly eclectic, mostly giving love to Ys and old school stuff in the upper echelons.

So anyway, we have a western version going. You can vote here OR in this very thread according to Kurt.

Rules:

Here is how the tallying works. You can pick up to 100 songs. You can pick less (just one, even), but no more. Most songs will get 1 points. You can pick a Top 5 from your list - these songs will get 3 points each. You can elect not to choose a Top 5 if you can't narrow them down, but in turn none of the songs elected will get extra points. I had originally deliminated them further, but upon trying to assign a value to the tracks I picked, I realized that was too overcomplicated.

You must format your voting like this:

GAME NAME, TRACK NAME, YOUTUBE LINK (optional)

That's the game name, with a comma and a space, followed by the track name, then a comma and a space, then a Youtube link if you want to provide a sample. (You do not need to put a comma after the track name if you're not posting a Youtube link.) Each entry goes on its own line. YOU MUST FOLLOW THIS EXACT FORMAT OR YOU VOTE WILL BE DISCOUNTED. The reason why is that it makes it easier to tally votes when copied into Excel, and I don't want to have to reformat people's votes.

-Try to find the proper track name. http://www.vgmdb.net is a great resource. If you can't find it, just put where it's used (i.e. Battle Theme, Level 1, Boss Theme, etc.) and we'll try to figure it out
-No licensed music. If you try to be clever and put down Rock Band you will be disqualified. If you vote for something from a rhythm game, it must be an original song, not an arrangement of something else.
-Songs must appear in the games themselves. No arrange soundtrack versions can be voted on, unless they're in the games themselves (i.e. most SNK games used arranged versions for their CD ports, so those are OK)
-Do not specify a specific platform for games that have multiple versions, unless the versions have totally different soundtracks. Like, Ys II has several different versions but the music's all the same and I don't want votes spread across multiple versions of the same songs. But it's OK to specify systems if the titles have the same name but are totally different games (i.e. Ninja Gaiden NES vs. Ninja Gaiden Xbox).
-The goal is to get a wide variety of songs, so please limit yourself to three songs per game, at maximum.
-Please post Youtube links if you can. That way you can expose other votes to some songs you like - maybe they'll check out the game it's from and vote for it too.
-This poll will be live until Friday, September 30th, 11:59 PM EST. You can edit your post as many as times as you want if you change your mind, but once it hits midnight, those will be your final choices.

It has western games too, just now I have listened a (fantastic) theme of Alan Wake called "War".

So so tempted to do this...

But I don't think I'd be able to narrow down a list. I'm so indecisive. When I think I've solidified a list, I check it over and then think, "Oh crap, I forgot this!" and then I'd have to swap something out. Plus school, work, etc. We'll see. I could give it a shot.

I'll go through the 2ch list later when I have more time. I'm interested in what they like. I expect a lot of Falcom.

Rez does count according to Kurt, and I would think DJ MAX should(see my list), because Oblivion was composed FOR the game, not licensed.

Tempted to do this but I have to say that if System Shock 2 doesn't rank highly and we end up with a big list of console RPG music then western gaming will have been dishonoured.

I considered Hell March but then took it out. Just looking at my few Western/PC picks, I guess you can easily tell I haven't played much on my PC for a long time.

The main (ending) theme from Deus Ex: HR will probably make the list (shaping up to be between 500-600 total). I put in a vote for the Genesis Adventures of Batman and Robin but almost no one else has.

But yeah, pick out a handful of tracks you like and post them. You don't have to pick 100 if you can't think of that many. Part of the reason I wanted to ask people to pick a "top 5" with a greater weight is that those are pretty much guaranteed to rank, albeit at a lower position.
