They're super detailed (like, down to individual pixels).

Phone in bsd service area. Will look at later.

I thought "regligion" was region + religion. It does work!

I had no idea how much of a minority I was in the US by being a Catholic. I mean, I knew we were a minority but that is a lot of blue.

It's a great idea but I don't think religious observance can really be quantified in a uniform manner. Japan for example is really oddly represented, you certainly don't have buddhist and shinto areas or anything like that. The vast majority practice elements of both yet don't consider themselves religious.

Amazing. British Columbia is North America's main irreligious stronghold.

By the way, note how half of Alberta is more irreligious than most of Canada. So much for being Canada's Texas. I've been arguing that Christianity is not a huge deal there for years.

Interesting split between Protestantism and No Religion in Germany. Almost looks like it mirrors the old East/West Germany split.

First thing I noticed too. Pretty easy to spot the international borders in western Canada.

It's more like no-one lives in the grey areas. And it's not like sheep are well known for their theological beliefs.

All major cities look mostly grey to me. The only exception is Auckland but that's because it's so big/spread out.

Utah combo breakin' the US tho. Also Africa has a really distinct border between north and central/south Africa. Pretty cool!

Thought there would be more in Texas cos I felt like there are tons of Catholic Churches everywhere.

I suspect it is just a case of such overwhelming blue that even the amount of Catholics in many areas really isn't enough to change the color any. Roughly 80 million in the US identify as Catholic while about 68 million claim active participation.

Whats up with all the "no religion" in eastern Germany, Austria, China, and Vietnam? Is that because there's a mix there, or what? Like, those areas really have more atheists than they do followers of a single religion? Very interesting. Had no idea, tbh.

Hah same, though I'm in the northeast so we're still the majority here
and I consider myself an atheist now anyway.

I'm kinda surprised considering the number of churches in my town but I guess I don't really see too many obvious christians

also don't see the point in separating catholics and protestants, then again I've never understood the difference

Ahh yeah that makes sense.

There are churches all over because of our cultural background, but a lot of that membership has melted away in recent decades.

All the old churches near me in New Westminster now have signs in Korean on them, because its mainly immigrant populations from places where Christianity is more fervent that are needed to prop up membership.

Communist history, I'd imagine. Religion suppressed under those types of regimes.

Am I missing something or does it appear to be divided by... individual counties or other rather large geographical areas?

45 years of Soviet Occupation left their mark in East Germany.

When it comes to these kinds of things I always feel like Japan should be considered not religious rather than Buddhist/Shinto. The vast majority of Japanese do not seem to practice at all.

There are also examples to the contrary, like Poland. (Who's borders are fairly clearly visible on the map, interestingly).

I believe this is because religion was a big force against Communism back in the day, and also the Pope was Polish at the time.

i know some folks that would be mad that mormonism was put into non-trinitarian even though thats preciously what it is

fun maps thanks for sharing

Well, there was a recent study that put China at around 90% atheist. No idea how accurate it is, though.

Yeah, religion in Sweden is kinda in the minority. Sure christianity is a "state religion" but no one actually believes so the map doesnt say anything.

Alberta is proof that you don''t need to be religious to be a conservative whacko lol.

From what I've read China is largely not religious (communism being anti-religion and all) but there's still a lot of spiritualism. I can't really comment as to what sort of stuff that spiritualism is, but perhaps someone from China could enlighten us?

Not religious, but extremely superstitious
