Pretty good album. They're a group of French hip hop producers with a very jazzy sound (hence the name); the album is full of guest rappers including J-Live, Buckshot, Fatlip, and Apani B Fly Emcee

Lots of variation here. Boom bap, jazzy production, reggae, etc.
I didn't listen to that one, but everyone who did says this one is much, much better.Nabs said:i heard starship utopia and wasn't feeling it at all... is this one better than that? i really dug their older material.

Nabs said:hmm, not really my cup of tea - but i won't judge the LP based off the first track. I'll give it a spin.
I'm more a fan of these type of cyne tracks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSwc3Q4NGeA

I loooooved Evolution Fight. Starship Utopia I thought was merely okay, but Pretty Dark Things is really great. I'd definitely urge you to check it out entirely.Nabs said:i heard starship utopia and wasn't feeling it at all... is this one better than that? i really dug their older material.

Real talk. I haven't heard the Vast yet, but the Vordul and Mighty Joseph albums are pure flame.Lambtron said::lol Best response ever.
The new shit the cats from Cannibal Ox put out this year is fucking awesome. All of it. I imagine I will have raging boners should they actually reunite. But in the meantime, check this all out.
Karma Kramer said:Yeah just saw Flying Lotus live in New York... was fucking incredible. One thing though.. I am really fucking fed up with American audiences. No one dances or does anything to show appreciation for good amazing live music... they just stand there.
I in no way know how to dance... but I do it anyway cause its so much fucking fun. People are so boring in the states I feel.
It doesn't make sense to be self conscious about yourself at a concert or something especially in a big city like New York.. cause you are never going to see any of the people in that venue ever again in your life... so if you act ridiculous who really cares?
Idk... I just don't get why people go to concerts if they are just going to stand there looking emotionless.
harSon said:It's a combination of the audience shifting completely and the fact that it's a bit hard to dance to a lot of the recent underground hip hop found today. Madlib, J Dilla, 9th Wonder, etc. make some slick beats but they're not really sounds you can dance too. I'm always around dancers though considering a good portion of my friends are bboys.

Was wondering if anyone had any Mixtape recommendations.
PhoenixDark said:I checked out the Y Society album and I gotta say it's fucking amazing. I was shocked. I thought Blu and Exile's album was the definitive best hip hop album of 07 but I might have to change my opinion on that. Blu is probably a better MC than Insight in terms of wit (in terms of just spitting Insight is fuck awesome), but Damu's production is spectacular on here. Exile is a great great producer but lots of his stuff sounded similar on Beneath the Heavens, whereas there's so much depth/transitions/cutting/etc on Travel At Your Own Pace.
harSon said:Told you! Y Society is probably one of the freshest groups out there right now, I love their 90s esque lyrics and flow as well as their jazzy beats.

PhoenixDark said:Yup. Plus while it's definitely on an old school tip it manages to remind you of the past while previewing the present/future.
I'm gonna look for some more Insight stuff. And god dammit I'd love to hear Blu or MF DOOM spitting over Damu.
btw has anyone heard the new Murs stuff (Murs for President and Sweet Lord)? How is it?

The best G Funk album.
I know. Still worth checking out if you enjoy Madlib's work.warhead said:It's not the sequel, just a Madlib remix of the first album.
