HiRez releases all previous Starsiege: Tribes games for free

Right now I am trying to get Starsiege to run (not Tribes), and hoo-boy, old Windows 9X games sure have their problems. I just got mouse support to work and I can get the game to run in fullscreen and with OpenGL hardware rendering. But the game has no idea what screen to set itself too and jumps between monitor 1 and 2 at random. The screen resolution looks messed up too.

Time to download Vengeance for the single player campaign! I'm sure Irrational did a great job with it.

Ehhhhhhh........................It was ok? Sadly Vengeance was an absolute commercial flop. We'll never get any further story development.

I'm fine with OK, right now I just want a halfway decent FPS campaign to play.

And, uh, does anybody have a CD key for Tribes Vengeance? The installer is asking for one.

EDIT: never mind, I found a bunch at http://tribesrevengeance.com/downloads/miscellaneous.php :P

EDIT2: aaaaaaaand the installer runs into trouble halfway through installing disc 2:
---------------------------
Tribes Vengeance Error
---------------------------
Error 1335.The cabinet file 'Data2.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

I don't think my download was corrupt in any way. I mounted the isos with PowerISO on Windows 10 and installed from there. Has anybody else tried installing Tribes Vengeance? I think Hi-Rez just dumped these files online without trying them out first.

Yesssss
I fucking love Starsiege so much that game really defined my childhood, can't wait to give it another spin.
Could never play story mode because my mom threw away the second disc since she thought it wasn't necessary

We really need a new Earthsiege/Starsiege game

I wonder if this is a copy protection thing, because I own Tribes Vengeance on disc and I ripped the ISOs for backup and I think this has happened when I tried installing in the past.

I downloaded Aerial Assault simply because I've never seen a commercial PS2 game released as a freeware ISO. It fascinates me.

Well that sucks. " Here are all these games, but we didn't check if they worked first."

I played so much Tribes 2.

So so so so much. Think that was one of the first games I got heavily into modding with too

Tribes 1 is still installed on my PC. I reinstall it whenever I nuke my windows. The MP is still active to this day... kinda suck at it now but man I still love playing it.

EDIT:

Tribes V gives me an install error also, missing file. =\

Was this meant to be sarcastic? I thought the campaign was actually pretty decent, even if it wasn't what the MP fans were looking for.

This is great.

You know you're spoilt when you see a company has made available its back catalogue and you're thinking to yourself "I'd prefer it to be on Steam".

This just reminds me of how tribes 2 was decades ahead of competition when it came to social features. A built in irc client, message boards, friends systems, it was incredible at the time.

I haven't loaded it up yet, but how do new people get past the login for T2?

I also broke out the manual and compendium for Starsiege, they are completely amazing. Full color, TONS of lore and backstory. They just don't make them like this anymore.

Tribes vengeance is my shit

I used to play the online demo everyday back in 2006 because i was too poor to buy games

That feeling when you download 2 gigs in under a minute

Oh my gosh. Time to hop back into Starsiege. This might be a good time to check out Earthsiege too, I never got to play those.

I have the large reference manual and compendium book for my copy of Starsiege somewhere. It's impressive that the game game with both these things, and the compendium is essentially a giant art book that covers the history of the Earthsiege/ Starsiege universe. It was pretty awesome.

And the pilot manual covered all the weapon types and hercs. I loved when PC games used to include stuff like this.

Tribes 2 is one of the best shooters of all time. Nothing to this day matches the awesomeness of those games. I can't believe no one has tried to recreate or rip off that game. The last Tribes was really slow and the skiing didn't work right, also I believe all the vehicles were taken out? It was definitely not a Tribes game.

Come on now. Ascend had issues but in no world is it a "really slow" game (unless you play HOF or something).

Too bad Hi Rez fucked up the game so badly. If only someone competent had picked up the franchise instead.

So if I've never played a Tribes game, which one of these should I try?

Tribes 1, if you're a purist.

Tribes 2, if you can still find people online - still holds up graphically & gameplay wise.

Tribes Vengeance otherwise, 'cause single-player & Irrational - you can play it on your own. Although quality of story is not stellar, or even sub-stellar, more like subterranean. And you also have a grappling-hook, which is kinda awesome & changes a bit the way you move around.

I can't say if I'm a purist since I've never played any Tribes. :p I don't think I want to play online, just try things out. Sounds like Vengeance is the way to go!

No, I was being serious. I loved Freedom Force back in the day, and SWAT 4 was supposed to be awesome, so I'm guessing Tribes Vengeance was of similar quality.

Has anybody figured out a way to get Vengeance to install yet?

Yep, seems that way. Same problem when I try it too.

I need to say this, because noone else has.

They are actually. There is a major update coming that is removing all the F2P crap, restoring the custom character builds ala Tribes 1/2 and adding some more maps.

Hopefully they do something about the cheating/hacking because near the time of the last update it was rife with it. Pretty much ruined it for my group of friends (just like every other pc shooter).
