Hitman Absolution Announced (2012, PS3/360/PC, Teaser) [Update: New Details]

Music did sound like it was from Kyd, that's a given. Also the plot summary sounds fine given the circumstances at the end of Blood Money. You don't get unnoticed and forgotten when you infiltrated the white house

Hope so, but he didnt do Kane and Lynch 2 :/ After working with IO for a long time.

Blood Money OST in particular gives me the chills. So great.

AGH! So hyped that we are about to see Hitman again.

Game of the forever if they stick to the damn formula.

Like a lot of other posters in this thread I foresee a Double Agent-esque tweek to the gameplay.

Just because it is a new team doesn't mean you have to prove yourselves by having a new take on the franchise

Accidents were the best thing to happen to hitman. That's what made Blood Money very open in how you wanted to beat levels. Jesper Kyd + interesting locations if done right will make this game.

I can't fucking wait for Absolution. I loved Blood Money. I'm going to play through the older Hitmans on Steam soon.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the new gameplay changes they're hinting at. I just hope they expand on Blood Money's gameplay concept as well as incorporating a free-roaming, open world for us to explore in-between missions and maybe add in an XP system to allows us to have unlocks and what not for our weapons and gadgets.

I really don't want it to turn into a third-person shooter.

More info

The main villain in Hitman: Absolution is Blake Dexter, played by Cowboys & Aliens star Keith Carradine.

Agent 47's handler is Diana Burnwood, played by White Collar's Marsha Thomason. Diana is said to have a "close relationship" with Agent 47, Hollywood Reporter revealed.

"Diana is 47's only true human contact," Thomason said. "They've known each other an extremely long time, and in the Hitman world, she is what Q is to James Bond. So she sets the assignments, tells him where to go and who to kill."

"The character I play in Hitman: Absolution is as multidimensional as any well-imagined character should be," Carradine said.

"The vividness of the world entered by the gamer hinges on detail. To fully engage the attention of the player requires nothing less than the most completely realized universe of geography and personality."

Developer IO is working with a dozen Hollywood actors for the hotly-anticipated game, due out next year.

Actors are required to provide performance capture and voice over work, conducted in Giant Studios, which James Cameron used for blockbuster movie Avatar.

IO has captured "complex scenes" with up to seven actors on set at once. Absolution focuses on the emotional stories that evolve, director Tore Blystad said.

"We had actors like Marsha and Keith come in and do full-body acting with facial and voice being captured simultaneously in scenes.

"Some of these scenes were very complex with all kinds of props and interactions amongst the actors."

PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game Absolution was announced two days ago with a brief teaser trailer, below.

Agent 47 takes on "his most dangerous contract to date", publisher Square Enix said. "Betrayed by those he trusted and hunted by the police, he finds himself at the centre of a dark conspiracy and must embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in his search for the truth."

Absolution has been built "from the ground up" by IO using its new proprietary Glacier 2 technology.

Blystad described it as "more stylised, more serious, and darker this time around in both the story line and the visuals".

Agent 47 goes on different missions throughout the US, with part of the game taking place in Chicago.

A new Hitman movie launches next year to coincide with the film. Daniel Casey (Jimmy Six) has written the script. The film is said to have an original story and characters, "but will retain the look and feel of the new game".

"The hope is that the movie will be going in a similar direction, and then when they both come out they will speak the same language. They won't follow the old Hitman games, but rather go with this newer direction."

Hitman, this ain't. :/

Still no logo?

Edit: Nvm.

More stylised? Blood Money at least had some pretty fucking gnarly character design, can't see where they can take it beyond having full-on fucking caricatures.

Just going by story and actors? Gameplay defines Hitman.
Story defines gameplay. If the story is about actionman, you don't play a silent assassin. And if they want the movie correlate with the game, well, good luck to stealth, because movie ain't doing that shit in million years.

have you ever played Splinter Cell: Conviction? It's supposed to be Sam's story
lolrevengelol

Heavy Rain~esque intermissions between missions pls

moar story. oscar worthy script. avatar motion capture.

day -100

I agree, but there seems to be more emphasis on story this time round and while it's not confirmed, you could take away from the info that the story will be the driving force behind the game. That's certainly not what Hitman is all about.

Huh. He can be on "revenge" or something like that, and still be the Hitman we know and love.

edit: I played Conviction a bit and I hated it, but I see no single reason the game could not have been more stealthy.

I am just saying. Revenge in stealth games has always eliminated stealth from equation. Not that I care really about stealth. That would be first time, thought.

I remember reading this idea someone had, that the stylised and exaggerated characters and world of Blood Money was 47's distorted view of the world, as he lives a relatively austere life while many of his contracts take place in areas filled with wealth and excess. Interesting thought.

Spoilers for those that haven't played the Hitman games.
Hitman 2 was essentially about 47 tracking down that priest he lived with, and killing those that took him captive, and the first Hitman (and Contracts, to some extent) have him getting revenge on his maker, Dr Ortmeyer, for tricking him into killing his former associates (and 47's "fathers"). I'd call that revenge.

Blood Money is the only game in the series where 47 is not motivated by personal reasons.

I don't know what to make of this. The current-gen massacre of established IPs instructs me to prepare for the worst, but the optimist in me says that they could be referring solely to the visual and aesthetic design.

I'm more for the increased story for hitman, as long as the gameplay is the same but further evolved around it. This sounds ok in my books.

if its nothing like Splinter Cell Conviction i'l get it day one..

who am i kidding, day one anyway its hitman!

More story is great. As long as the game is as gameplay centered as the previous ones. I fear that they will make it all flashy with Avatar motion capturing and stuff, and trade in the gameplay in return :(
Prove me wrong IO!

"Darker and more serious" bullshit again. smh

The Avatar co-op and "hollywood talnets" sound like want this to be more "cinematic" and this is not good thing at all...

And since The original Hitman team is no more, I think this can really be Conviction 2.

Boy I am hyped. I believe they can nail this shit and the details mostly sound good :D

As always, the story will be completely ignored for the gameplay so that's all they need to nail - ace assassinations.

Please be good. Don't do a Splinter Cell on us, Square.
Splinter Cell Conviction owned. As long as this isn't Hitman: The Movie 2: The Game 5 it will own. That's probably what it is though.

edit: It's also pretty hard to live up to the standards set by Blood Money.

Every time you get super hyped for something it end not so well (Epic Micky,GT5..ect)

Your hype is like a curse or something.

The world needs a good, quality assassin game set in the modern times. Sneaking and deception are powerful game play elements when used effectively.

As for my two cents about Conviction: the game was awesome as a planned and careful sneaking scenario and turned into utter dog shit whenever you had to act out CoD-esque action sequences and shooting everything up.

Did anyone else get a Hitman: Contracts vibe off of the music from the teaser? That game was dark as hell, and may be a good indicator of the tone of this game.

Edit: Contracts had ghosts, too, but I somehow doubt anything like that will be making an appearance in this game.

GT5 ended up great. Don't know what people are on there. One of the most amazing racing sims ever with the single greatest car physics engine of all time. It was rushed to launch but all the updates brought it up to speed and it is exactly what I was expecting. Amazing.

Guess you were looking for something else.

I admit Epic Mickey was a disaster, though. Who would have thought Warren Spector was capable of that?

But of course, I routinely get hyped for tons of things that end up great so one or two unexpected failures are bound to happen. It happens when you love gaming as much as I do.

I can't wait to hear David Bateson again, and I bet he's loving doing the mocap action as well outside of the voice acting. That's a voice that will forever be 47, something we can all agree on. I wonder if he'll try to go for the second movie again now he has a more of a bigger chance thanks to this game.

Conviction is the worst console Splinter Cell to date.
